3 O'clock Horror

The 3 AM Fix

Hello everyone.

A short message to you
In the last few months, I've been watching some of you playing the game (through youtube or twitch), I've read the reviews and comments on the game page and I just wanted to give you all a huge thank you for giving your time to play the game and providing beneficial feedback.

Let's get down to business
I've been keeping track of some things that were mentioned about improvement and other additions that would make the game better during gameplay.
Here is the list of all the changes, spoiler-free, that are now available in the new, updated 8.3 version.

Largest Change: YOU CAN FINISH THE GAME... WHAT!?!
I know..., why would we release some puzzle game that would not allow you to complete its weird maze? Apparently, there were a few bugs related to screen size that was shifting the ending screen to negative infinity not allowing anyone to see it.
Nonetheless, the endings are now clearly defined and ready to be accessed as well as other story bits that weren't previously available.

Other Fixes
This is a shortlist of all the new things that were fixed or remade
Fixed things:

  • Tutorial canvas scales to better fit screen
  • Main menu canvas scales to better fit screen
  • Main Game canvas scales to better fit screen
  • End Game canvas scales to better fit screen
  • Bear traps can only catch you once per trap
  • Repositioning of all bear traps
  • "E" only appears on your screen once you're close to an interactable object and immediately disappears if you leave the area
  • Adding extra indication on possible locations that you can explore
  • Options Menu has been implemented in the main menu
  • The typewriter will automatically go to the next message after 35 seconds in case the player does not click to progress the text
  • The typewriter messages no longer overwrite each other
  • Hourly notes can be turned off during gameplay until midnight
  • Better instructions on how to use the RED BOOK in the basement
  • When you beat the game the House Clock will no longer count towards 3 AM
  • The game will calculate your final time and give you a proper ending title

There are a few other surprises that I won't spoil here, however, I would like to provide a disclaimer right away. There haven't been any changes in the game's jumpscare animations.
As much as I would love to have a flashier jumpscare the experience 3 O'clock Horror provides is not really focused on the jumpscare aspect of the game but on the Lovecraftian storytelling told by our protagonist. For that reason, that update will have to be left for some other time.

The community
If you'd like to participate and give feedback or share an idea that you believe may benefit the game feel free to open a new discussion here on steam and I'll keep them in mind for a future update.
If you'd like to brag about your Final Game time, share them here and see if anyone can beat your time. Who knows, I might put the names of the top 5 fastest "Night Cleansers" into the game credits.
Bear in mind I am working on this game alone and that updates take a while to come out.

Huge thanks to Noah and Ethan for helping with programming and testing, this build would have taken a much longer time to be ready if it wasn't for them. Their names are already in the credits of this game, but I just wanted to put this one out there, since they are already working on other projects.

Without further ado, best of luck, night cleansers.

The future of 3 O'clock Horror

Hey everyone,
Well, I'm not gonna lie this is unusual to me. I was not expecting this game to get any attention at all on this platform, but I'm glad it did. Don't get me wrong I know this is not the new FNaF by any means, but it does make me happy to know the game entertained some of you in a way.
I have been looking closely at the current bug reports and suggestion from other players that wanted to have a few things fixed and a little extra polish on other areas of the game. But that might take longer than I anticipate and here is why.

A Brief Update on the team:
The team behind 3 O'clock Horror is not working on the game anymore because this project was a student project made during our last year of college. Everyone from the previous team is currently working on a different project and doing really cool things that are not related to this game, and that includes me (Lead Game Designer) as well.

Does that mean 3 O'clock Horror will not get an Update? No.
If you're one of those players that enjoyed the experience and wanted to try it again with those fixes I will tell you that it will take a while for me to get to it, but I'll try my best to get (if not all) most of it fixed. The reason for that is because I will be working alone on this project from now on while juggling other obligations that I have to get done.

The last thing to say about the game:
I would love to put more hours into this game, even rebuild it from the ground up with 2D lights, snow effects, a 2.5D style, as well as fixing the current bugs that have been reported by some of you from the community.
HOWEVER, the game is free and for that reason, I will not be able to invest much of my time in this project.
If in the near future there is a point where I feel I could sell a better version of this game with a community that would enjoy playing it, I might stop everything and get to work on that.
Till then I hope you enjoy the free game and keep an eye out for few updates in the future.

And one last thing, thank you so much for playing the game,
Gabe Simao.
