Hi everyone!

Here's our weekly patch notes news! Yesterday we released the 1.03 version of 9 Monkeys of Shaolin, where we fixed the following issues:

— fixed co-op connectivity issues to severely reduce lagging;
— fixed the Lake Poyang mission not being required to unlock the final mission in Chapter 2;
— boss missions now have more distinctive icons on the map;
— fixed second player placement at the start of the encounter in coop when both players are too far away from each other;
— fixed lightning in the Eight Diagrams mission in co-op;
— fixed a bug in the final mission in Chapter 2 where the objective message would appear after you've been killed by the boss.

Once again thank you for your feedback! And now, we're back to work!

9 Monkeys of Shaolin FAQ

Hi everyone!

We noticed quite a few questions about 9 Monkeys of Shaolin during the Demo and Prologue launch. Firstly, we would like to thank everyone for this massive wave of feedback! It helped us tremendously in ironing out some of the pesky bugs and making some final changes to the game.

Secondly, we want to give the answers to frequently asked questions about some aspects of the game that might not seem obvious.

I’m stuck after the first level! Where do I go?

The first logical step is to introduce yourself to everyone in the temple. Or, at the very least, to everyone who has an “!” sign above their heads :)
After that you’re free to select the next mission and go through the opened door to start the new level.

How do I start co-op play?

You can begin local co-op either at the very beginning of the game or by talking to Daoshan (a monk in blue) in the hub area.

To activate the online co-op mode, the player needs to talk to Daoshan, select the ‘Start Network Game’ option and then select a friend to send an invite to. After that, your partner has to start the game and accept the invite — and voila — both of you are now in the hub and ready to play!

This works a bit differently on the Switch. Since the Switch didn’t have an invite system at the time of porting, your buddy will need to select the ‘Join Friend’ option in the main menu manually. But hey, it already encourages cooperation from the get-go!

Explain upgrading the second player in more detail please!

The second player gets as many upgrade points as the first player, but they can spend their points they want to! However all progress is saved on the Player 1 side, so if you wish to play with another friend on the same save file, they will have to deal with the saved progress from the previous Player 2. There can only be one Daoshan :D

I’ve found a secret! But I have no idea what it does...

Congrats on finding one! These are here not just for show — each of the secrets unlocks a modifier that can slightly adjust the gameplay. You can access the modifiers menu by interacting with the ladder in the hub area.
A quick tip: speedrunners may appreciate the Turbo modifier that makes the game a lot faster ;)

I’ve encountered a bug! What do I do?

Oh no! We strive to make games that are bug-free, but sometimes stuff happens and, well, we have to fix it. If you’ve encountered a bug, please let us know via email to help@buka.ru or message us on the #bug-reporting channel on our Discord server (https://discord.gg/NNCb3dV).

If you have any other questions you think should be on this list, please let us know!

Meet 9 Monkeys of Shaolin at the Steam Games Festival

Hi guys!

Sobaka Studio here and we’re excited to be a part of the Steam Games Festival this year! 9 Monkeys of Shaolin is coming out on October 16th, which means it’s just 8 days left until its launch!

It’s been three years since our team gathered in the office after finishing Redeemer and thought «Man, I really miss the golden era of beat’em ups». And since that day we were dead set on making a game that would invoke the same emotions we felt back then. Bold, snappy and perhaps a tiny bit cheesy.

We’ve come a long way since that day and being this close to launch fills us with joy! And also a bit of anxiety... In any case, you can try out the first chapter of 9 Monkeys of Shaolin in the free Prologue. You can play it solo or in co-op (local AND online) with your friend and try to defeat the first boss of the game!

I hope you all enjoy the Prologue! Please share your feedback on our Discord server or here in the Steam community. And don’t forget to add 9 Monkeys of Shaolin to your wishlist!
