A Haunting: Witching Hour

Need Your Input

Hello Everyone. Being a solo developer it is Important to know what features to focus on and which ones not to. The new update I have been working on adds a lot more VR functionality but creates a few issues when trying to switch from VR to Non-VR during gameplay. So I have a few questions and I hope you take the time to comment on them.

1. How many of you bought A Haunting to play in Non-VR mode?
2. Would going to the Main Menu rather than the Pause Menu to switch from VR to Non-VR mode be a turnoff?

I want to make sure A Haunting is the best game it can be so I would greatly appreciate hearing from all of you who have bought it.

Progress On The New Update

The last few weeks have been very productive. Two weeks ago I finished the 3D modeling for the new rooms for the first floor of the orphanage. Last week I got the new first floor imported into the game and this week I have begun set dressing the environment with items to interact with. It is all coming together nicely. Omce the set dressing and lighting is done, I’ll be posting some new screenshots.

A new website is also coming soon for the game. Once done, it will have a lot of screenshots, videos, backstory and other info on A Haunting.

Status Update

Hello Everyone. We wanted to share a status update on the new update we are planning to release. We finally got the 3D modeling done for the entire downstairs of the orphanage and have moved to painting it and making it game ready. There will be 22 new rooms to explore on the first floor. We are also about 40% done with the 3D modeling of the second floor.

We are going to release an update that includes the new first floor, along with new items to interact with and new events. After the second floor is done, we’ll release a second update. Originally we were going to release a single, big update but thought it would be better to break it down to two updates so we can get new content out to everyone sooner.

Once again we want to thank everyone who has supported the game so far.

Major Update Coming

Hello Everyone. We want to apologize for being silent on the announcements for the last few weeks. We have been really busy making changes to A Haunting that we feel will make it a much better experience. We are really excited to announce we have a major update coming soon.

Coming Changes

  1. New opening cutscene. We are working on a new cutscene that will give more insight to the backstory of what happened in Shady Hollow as well as explains why Ray goes to the orphanage.

  2. More explorable areas. We are working on adding more areas to the orphanage that can be explored. Once done, there will be approx 22 rooms downstairs and approx 19 rooms upstairs.

  3. Enhanced VR controls. We are working to better incorporate motion controllers and make the experience feel more immersive.

  4. More Scary Events. We're currently designing more scary events that will help build more tension while playing.

  5. More Items To Find We're working on creating new items that can be found that will reveal more details to what is and has happened in the small town of Shady Hollow.

Planned Updates

  1. We want to add an exterior to the orphanage that can be explored.
  2. We plan on adding achievements down the road.
  3. We would like to make a series of Behind the Scenes videos allowing you to enter into our world and see how A Haunting is being developed.

We want to thank everyone who have stood behind us from the beginning. Also, for the people that have refunded A Haunting, we hope you see all the hard work we are putting into it and give us another shot once this major update is done.

[UPDATE] 12-21-2017

We have been working hard on adding new content to A Haunting: Witching Hour. We appreciate everyone's support and hope to make A Haunting the game everyone hopes it will be. Below are some of the things we have been working on:

PLANNED UPDATES

  • New intro cutscene. This cutscene will give insight into why Ray is at the orphanage and what happened to Emily before Ray got there.
  • New flashback mechanic. This mechanic will take the player back in time to see what events occurred in the past.
  • New items to interact with.
  • Expanded explorable areas.

Please keep checking back to see our progress and make sure to update your copy of A Haunting when new updates come out.

Seasons Greeting

We want to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season.

New Update 11.17.2017

We just uploaded a new update. It has lots of new features.

NEW FEATURES

- Added Keyboard and Mouse support. Although we have thoroughly tested it in the studio and have not seen and problems, this is still considered experimental.

- Added new door opening mechanic. The new mechanic allows you to slowly open doors by holding the right trigger or left mouse button and pushing the right thumbstick up or down or moving the mouse forward and back.

- Added new icons and button images.

- Made interacting with objects and picking up items more simple. When you see the action icon, simply hold the right trigger or left mouse click to pick up items or interact with doors.

- We removed the alarm going off in the beginning of the game. This seemed to cause for confusion and frustration for gamers so we removed it.

- We added a few new creepy events. More coming real soon.

PLANNED UPDATES

- Future updates will include any bug fixes that we come across. If you find a bug, please let us know so we can fix it asap.

- We are going to add more creepy events.

- We are currently working on additional explorable areas.

Keyboard and Mouse Support Coming

We have had several requests to add keyboard and mouse support so we wanted to let everyone know that keyboard and mouse support is coming soon.

We have it working but want to test it more thoroughly before pushing an update through.

[Minor] Update - 11-8-2017

[Minor] Update - 11-8-2017
Hello everyone. We just pushed through an update. This new update includes a screen that shows the key mappings for the controller you are using. This key-mappings screen can be seen in the options section of the Main Menu and the Pause Menu. We also added it to the loading screen that appears before the game begins.

This new key-mappings screen detects which headset you are using and which controllers are on and displays the correct key-maps for that controller. If playing in Non-VR mode it will show the key-maps for a standard joystick.

PLANNED UPDATES
- More explorable areas
- More content to interact with
- Additional dialogue from Emily that helps tell the backstory to the orphanage.
- And of course, more creepy events.

Thank you to everybody who has already purchased A Haunting and as always, if you find any bugs or have any problems, please let us know asap so we can fix them.

Picking Up Objects Using Motion Controllers

It has been brought to our attention that some people have had a hard time figuring out how to pick up items such as notes and keys using the motion controllers.

To Pick Up An Item
To pickup items move your hands over the item and squeeze the right trigger on either the Oculus Touch controllers or the Vive Controllers. To drop the item, simply let go of the trigger.

We will be adding a controller tutorial image to the loading screen to show how all the controls work. We are waiting on line art for the Vive controllers so we can create the new screen. Once we have it, we'll push through an update.

Crouching
If you drop something on the floor, you can crouch down to pick it up by pressing the X button on the Oculus Touch Controllers or squeezing the right Grip on The Vive Controllers.
