Hi, citizens!
We have been hush hush lately. And for a good reason!
We are polishing every street and corner of our city to get clear of those noxious bugs and leave our Unwilling metropolis as good as new.
Why? Well, first, because you deserve it. We had a bumpy release on the bug side, and still, the warm reception of the game has been there. We really want to pay that love in sweat to polish as many problems as we can.
But there's another exciting reason for all this hard work.
One you will know about soon! Keep tuned!
Also, for our backers, great news either if you are a comrade or a stiffarse. We have finished the rewards! And what a beauty they are.
IMPORTANT: If for any reason you had to change your address during this long hiatus, please let us know (at "info [at] alpixelgames [dot] com") to make sure that your physical reward is delivered as it should.
When should you receive yours, citizen? In the following weeks.
That's all for now. But not all at all.
Bye, bye! Or, as Ms. Peyton loves to say, Adieu!
Quick update on Patch #14
Hi,
Two days ago we released a new update that, besides fixing bugs, it also introduced a new feature that seems to be causing some stability issues. Since we can't upload a fix today, we've decided to go back to patch #13 until we finally fix this next week.
Apologies for the inconvenience, we'll have this fixed next week.
Best,
A Place for the Unwilling - Patch #14
Hi!
We just uploaded a new patch correcting many of the issues reported by players. Keep in mind that you might need to restart Steam for the client to search for updates.
Remember to leave a positive rating on Steam if you're enjoying the game. That'd help A LOT a small studio like ours.
All the changes are listed below, but you can check the status of all the reports on our public trello board. We use it to track every bug report.
Don't forget we also have a Discord server in case you want to join us there as well.
New feature: Map markers
While we don't plan to add more content to A Place for the Unwilling, we collect every piece of feedback and add it to our trello board in case we can implement new things requested by players (which is very tricky given our limited resources).
After today's update, you can toggle markers on the map screen. You'll still need to use your wits to find your way around the city, but things like finding public buildings or telling where each quarter ends should be easier now.
You can activate these markers pressing "A" on your keyboard (or "X" if you are using a Xbox gamepad) from the map screen. We've updated the interface to show this new function.
Gamescom and update schedule:
There won't be any new patches in the next 7-8 days or so. We also might not be able to answer every message next week. The reason for this being that some of us will be at Gamescom showing the game around and a few of us will be taking days off in order to rest from all the work we've been doing lately and stay healthy.
If you're attending Gamescom be sure to drop by the Indie Arena Booth (Hall 10.2) and say hi. A Place for the Unwilling is part of the showcase and we'll be around.
Critical fixes:
Moved a group of static shadows that could trap the player in the poor quarter.
Lucas' event that involves translating a text no longer adds a journal entry that says you've failed before starting the task.
The instructions for finding August on day 13 have been corrected.
Newspapers now show a visual hint reminding players they can use arrow keys (or the joystick) to turn the pages.
The trading interface has a new visual hint to remind players it's possible to scroll down the page.
Smaller fixes:
Fixed a bug that kept triggering the "Item added to your iventory" notification with a certain book.
Tweaked a few lines of "Making a mess" that could give a wrong impression.
The journal entry from day 14 now shows the time at which the play will start.
Players will now get more precise instructions for finding Emily on day 14.
There's a thing in the inner library that can look like a bug even though it's working as intended. A small hint has been added to let players know things "might be odd in there".
Corrected the journal entries from the second week that mentioned "a second corpse".
More pronoun corrections (English and Spanish).
Style changes:
Henry's Will no longer mentions Arthur.
Corrected several typos (English version).
Corrected some documents (images) that had typos (English version).
We hope you are enjoying the game and that these patches are making the experience smoother for everyone.

A Place for the Unwilling - Patch #11
Hi!

Critical fixes:
Sometimes players got a message from Wallace or Myles to help them with a task, but talking to them wouldn't start the event. This happened because said event required a certain relationship level with that character (which was met when the day started). However, their actions on that day made them no longer eligeble for the task (Myles and Wallace don't like each other and helping one will weaken your relationship with the other) so when players talked to that character he said he was busy. After this update, when this happens both Wallace and Myles should complain about the player befriending their foe (instead of just saying they're busy).
A corpse that appears on day 13 now triggers the right description.
The map interface now displays the right scrolling hint when using a keyboard.
Players should no longer be able to get stuck inside Giles' newsstand.
Smaller fixes:
Fixed a quest that displayed a white box on the journal after being completed.
Corrected a poster that appeared floating in the middle of a street.
Corrected certain item that didn't display the right name on the inventory screen.
You can now give Thomas the cigars after day 5.
The main character no longer suggests to buy a theatre ticket if the player already has one.
Tweaked one of Dana's lines that didn't fit well with the tone of her default dialogue.
More pronoun corrections (English and Spanish).
Corrected more colliders.
Style changes:
Several spelling corrections (English).
Have a great weekend! We hope you are enjoying the game. We'll have more upgrades ready next week.

A Place for the Unwilling - Patch #9

Critical fixes:
A major event that could be triggered on any day should only appear on one specific day now.

A transition that triggered during one of Harriet's mission has been tweaked.
Doors that lead to buildings now display a stronger light effect.

Watchlist:
A user reported their save file said "day 1" even when they had player four days. After inspecting said save file we saw that the game had been saving the progress but set some wrong data at the end of day four. This might be caused due to an interruption of the saving process (like closing the game). We restored the value on the save file and emailed it back to the user. We'll keep this on the watchlist in case we get new reports.
We hope you are enjoying the game. We'll have more upgrades very soon.
