A Place for the Unwilling

About Kickstarter Rewards

When we launched the Kickstarter campaign we were working with a Spanish publishing company that was going to distribute the game. We managed the campaign using their account until several months later, when we made the difficult decision of continuing on our own. The owners of said company, which recently appeared on international press after being reported by developers and workers, have moved to another country and have rejected our petitions to keep managing the campaign and deliver rewards to backers. After several emails to Kickstarter, their staff has concluded they won't be doing anything to fix the situation.

We still intend to keep our promises and we post messages everywhere, encouraging backers to get in touch with us. It's a time-consuming task for a team that is already overwhelmed, but we are going to send the rewards to every person that gets in touch with us (even after release). We always try to be as open and accessible as possible on social media, email, and discord. Most backers have already talked to us and will receive their rewards soon. We will continue trying to reach the rest.

Last week, we sent backers a survey asking for the information we need to handle rewards. If you haven't been getting our emails, ping us at "info [at] alpixelgames [dot] com" so we can walk you through the process.

You can also get in touch with us on Discord.

Best,

We put a WHOLE Theatre Production in our narrative game!

Hi everyone!

We’re back with a small sneak peek. If you’ve been following the development of “A Place for the Unwilling”, you’ll know that everybody is gossiping about the new theatre play. “The King in Yellow” will soon arrive to the city.

It’s a cursed play that was born way before we started working on the game. It’s also part of our lore and we decided to implement it, which means that you can get tickets, grab a seat and actually watch it. That’s pretty much a theatre production inside a game.

Like the rest of the events in the game, this one isn’t mandatory and you can choose not to go. One thing is for sure, it won’t leave you indifferent.

We’ve prepared a short video for you all showcasing some bits of the play and cutting out all the spoilers. Remember to wishlist the game on Steam, not only will that notify you once the game is out, but it’s also a huge help for small teams like ours. You can also join our Discord to chat with the development team and the rest of the community.

You have until Sunday to try the alpha on Steam!

Hi everyone! Hope you’re having a great week. In case you missed it, we recently did a small beta test with Kickstarter backers and some Discord members. It allowed us to gather some really helpful feedback. It also took a massive amount of time and energy, that’s one of the reasons we have done less devlogs over the last few weeks. We’ve also been busy preparing lots of surprises for the next two months. While we can’t share any of that yet, we do have some exciting news!

First of all, we are opening the alpha demo to everyone on Steam STARTING NOW and until June 3rd at 09:00 (CET). Just join our discord server and our helpful bot will hand you a key. This build is still a rough one (some parts of the game aren’t fully translated, balanced or polished) and it’s very similar to the one from the closed testing. We want to let you get a taste of how the game feels. We know many people read about A Place for the Unwilling and want to know more about gameplay. That’s why we recently released a gameplay trailer and that’s why we’re opening this build to everyone.

Time to address the other question we get all the time, “when is it coming out?”. And the answer is: very soon. It won’t be a surprise release, we won’t just post an update saying it’s getting released the next day, but everything is moving quite fast. We can’t give any more clues without fully spelling it out, but you shouldn’t miss the updates we’re going to publish in June.

If you’re a Kickstarter backer with an early reward (designing content for the game or having access to pre-release builds) we’ll get in touch with you in the next 30 days. We’ll contact the rest 1-2 weeks before release. Backers who missed our email about the new European privacy laws should read this.

We are really excited (and nervous) about sharing what we’ve been building for about four years. Stick around with us unveil the city secrets.

Beta ends next week

Hi everyone!

We just sent a last batch of beta keys (picked from the people that joined our mailing list). Go ahead and check your email (remember it could be under spam or promotions, you can always double-check with us).

We've also posted a small update on the Discord beta channels going through all the feedback we've received. In 8 days (Friday 17th), the beta will end and we'll remove access to the game. This has been very helpful and we thank you for your time.

While we don't have more tests planned right now (due to all the time it takes to prepare them) we might look into that again in the future. In any case, you should stay tuned. We created the steam page, shared a build for the first time and released a lengthy gameplay trailer. Things are moving fast, the game might be in your hands before you think (and no, we are not announcing a date yet).

Meanwhile, remember to wishlist it on Steam and spread the word. That helps a lot!
