A-Tech Cybernetic Update - Small fixes

Hey everyone,

We have noticed the two invisible walls in Chapter 03 and 05 after the the game's full release. Both were blocking the gameplay and could only be bypassed by frantically trying to teleport through them.
Finally got around to fixing them.

  • Chapter 03: fixed the invisible wall after blowing up the rocks
  • Chapter 05: fixed the invisible wall in the corridor
  • Other minor gameplay fixes


Now nothing can get in the way of blasting mutants! \m/

A-Tech Cybernetic leaving Early Access

EDIT: UPDATE 08/04/2020: Fixed an invisible wall in Chapter 4 at the dump truck part.
We are aware of missing input for WMR controllers and are working on it! We are terribly sorry for the inconvenience.

The year is 2016 - a couple of young developers team up to discover the possibilities of an emerging technology: Virtual Reality.
With no previous VR experience, they set out to make a first person shooter they would all enjoy: A-Tech Cybernetic. A classic, action packed story, a ‘Swarm’ mode, a plethora of hard hitting weapons and some badass metal tunes in the background...
It wasn’t easy. Quite the contrary, it was really difficult. No guides, no tutorials, no know-how on how to develop in VR. But it was fun.

Fast forward four years - the passion project of a few VR enthusiasts is leaving Early Access today, and has been released on another popular platform: Playstation VR.
We can also proudly present our first in-house Steam bundle:

It’s quite unbelievable to be honest. The game’s success has far surpassed our initial expectations, which allowed us to grow as a team, as an independent studio.

In the last update we added Valve Index controller support and overhauled the game’s ‘Swarm’ mode.
This is the point where we can, and have to say: it is done, the game is finished.
It is not perfect, but it is ours. Ours and yours, since all this wouldn’t be possible without your support throughout the years.
We could continue developing the game for years and years as we’re still full of ideas, but it is time for the A-Tech team to move on, to concentrate on other very exciting projects at XREAL Games.
We’ll still keep an eye on feedback, and won’t abandon the game. It is our firstborn after all.



We have learned so much during A-Tech’s development - we’ll use this knowledge and experience to bring you even better, more exciting games in the near future.

Once again, thank you so much for supporting us throughout the years. You are the reason we can do what we love.
Virtual Reality is our passion, we strongly believe it IS the future of gaming and we’d like to think we’re significantly contributing to its popularity.

A-Tech Cybernetic Update - Index Controller support & complete 'Swarm' overhaul!

Hey everyone,

A-Tech Cybernetic’s full release is getting closer and closer - this update is probably one of the last steps before we consider the game finished.

INDEX CONTROLLER SUPPORT



We have added proper Index Controller support (finger tracking not included). We've tried to make the most comfortable and practical layout possible.



SWARM MODE OVERHAUL



We have also completely overhauled the 'Swarm' mode of the game. We took extreme care while rebalancing each wave - as a result, the difficulty curve now increases gradually and makes playing 'Swarm' more challenging, and more rewarding.

We have also added a new level: 'Reactor' - and removed one: 'Cave'.
The 'Cave' level wasn't up to our optimization and quality standards, it would've taken more time to fix it than to add a completely new one, so we went with the latter option.

Another new balancing feature is the way weapons unlock - they now become available in a pre-defined order in every wave.
Weapon spawning has also changed - on easy, normal and hard difficulties, picked-up weapons respawn after 10, 15 and 30 seconds respectively.

These changes mean that the 'Swarm' mode as a whole became more balanced, but more challenging at the same time.
Giving it another shot is recommended even for seasoned A-Tech players! :)

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCK SYSTEM



We've fixed the achievement unlock system, every achievement should now count correctly and should work as intended overall.

A-Tech Cybernetic Content Update - Two new Chapters, fixes & improvements!

Hey everyone,

This is it.. The long awaited content update is here!
The two brand new Chapters, Chapter 05 - The Sundering and Chapter 06 - The End brings an epic closure to A-Tech Cybernetic’s story.
We’ve overhauled the gameplay and combat intensity throughout the whole game - in return, it became much more challenging! You really have to break a sweat in order to survive each Chapter.

Besides adding new content, we’ve fixed countless community-reported issues and made improvements on all aspects of the game.
You can check all the fixes and improvements in the patch notes below.



GENERAL AI FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS



  • Improved Brute behavior.
  • Improved accuracy and behavior for armed enemies - as a result, the game became a tiiiny bit more difficult.
  • Various other fixes for armed enemies.
  • Fixed a crash caused by zombies exploding.
  • Fixed an issue with enemies changing colour before dissolving.
  • General improvement of enemy performance and behavior.
  • Polished enemy animations.


GAMEPLAY RELATED FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS



  • Improved accessibility: a left-handed control layout has been added.
  • Improved locomotion.
  • Vive controller teleport fix: in turning mode, teleport is only activated by hitting UP on the touchpad. No more accidental teleporting while turning.
  • Fixed a rare bug where the player could’ve gotten stuck when dying during hand scanning.
  • Fixed the menu laser pointer.
  • Revised checkpoints.
  • New safety timers for objective triggers.
  • Fixed teleports.
  • Updated enemy encounters.
  • Fixed an issue where the detonator didn’t disappear after the explosion.
  • Improved navigation.
  • Fixed a locomotion issue when playing while sitting down, or being really short.
  • Fixed tutorial controllers not attaching to the player’s hand properly on the menu level.
  • Temporary fix for players not being able to pick up weapon ammo during later chapters (if they skipped previous chapters)
  • The flashlight can not be dropped accidentally.
  • Melee weapons can be stored (one at a time).
  • Fixed flamethrower.
  • Fixed ladder static component.
  • Weapon projectiles are now unaffected by gravity.
  • General sound mix balance update.
  • Updated objective markers.
  • Updated chapter 2 “hangar fight” enemy encounter.


PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATION



  • Various skeletal meshes have been converted to static meshes.
  • Fixed memory leak issue in Chapter 03: unused particles are removed.
  • Updated level streaming.
  • Added splash screen and credit roll.


KNOWN ISSUES



  • Achievements are WiP, might not be unlocking correctly, or at all.
  • The “turn music off” option is not yet implemented in the menus.
  • There is a rare issue with HTC Vive headset audio output that might cause crashes. If this happens, connect your ear/headphones directly to the PC and set your audio device to the PC audio output port instead of the Vive.
  • Swarm mode is under development, will be reworked in the next update.

A-Tech Cybernetic devblog - Breaking the silence: new update coming soon™!

Hey everyone,

Long time no see!
In this news post i will shed some light on A-Tech Cybernetic's development and the content of the long awaited, upcoming update. You can check the preliminary patch notes at the end of this post.

3 years ago, our small indie team consisting of talented VR enthusiasts started working on A-Tech Cybernetic. As it was the team's first VR project, one could say that this was also a learning project. But an ambitious one at that.
The development went great, the team started growing and another project emerged from our developer's minds.

A team within the team started working on the new project, while the original A-Tech team continued the game's development.
Around this time last year, the team went further and dreamt bigger: why lock the game to PC and leave other platforms out of the fun?
And so happened that we've started exploring yet another completely unknown realm: PSVR.
We knew porting it was going to be difficult, but started it anyway because at the time we could easily manage a parallel development. Or so we thought.



I've mentioned it a few times that in order to have a successfull port, we had to develop both versions simultaneously (or even from scratch).

Long story short, technical difficulties arose (quite a few) which meant that we had to delay the PC version's update further and further.
We know this isn't how it should've happened, and we apologize for that. It was a valuable lesson for XREAL Games, all our current and future endevours will benefit from our experiences. :)

And now, for the update itself. A ton of things will be fixed/optimized, left handed support is coming, as are two brand new Chapters: 05 - The Sundering and 06 - The End, the latter bringing the story to a closure.

What's up with A-Tech Cybernetic VR?

Hey guys!



We owe you an apology and an explanation about A-Tech Cybernetic VR. You might’ve noticed that there were no updates since last year.
We have also got some questions recently whether the game has been abandoned.
Fear not, the game isn’t abandoned!



That's right! We’re working on the story’s conclusion in the background, but… we’ve decided to share our project with yet another VR community: PSVR users.
In order to meet Sony’s requirements, we had to go back to the game’s roots, and work through the code and visuals almost from scratch.

What does this mean?



It means that we have to develop the PC version in conjunction with the PSVR version. For a small indie studio like us, it is a huge task as we had no previous experience with PSVR. This unfortunately slowed down the development process quite a bit, but it is something we wanted to do, even if it seemed impossible at the beginning.

We’re also experimenting with a different rendering technique to make the game as sharp as possible. It requires a lot of testing and optimization, but we hope the final results will be worth it. :)

Once again, we’re sorry for the lack of updates and information, we didn’t want to confirm anything prematurely.
We’ll keep you updated, we aren’t that far from the game’s full release!

A-Tech Cybernetic VR: what’s next?

Hey guys and gals!

Our last story update’s [“Chapter 04: The Surface”] reception was absolutely amazing, we’re glad you guys liked it!

Brace yourselves, Chapter 05: The Sundering is coming!



Currently we’re working on the story’s next chapter. It picks up right from where Chapter 04 left off. Tough decisions are ahead, which may or may not make things worse for our main character. ;)
Here’s two, very work in progress screenshots, the environment will one up Chapter 04’s astonishing outside aesthetics!



New enemy, new weapons

Our family of life threatening mutants will be expanded by a new foe. Sharpen your sight! Thanks to its cloaking mechanism, our new friend will be able to blend in its surroundings, surprising you when you least expect it!

To counter enemies more effectively, we’ll include a new, Uzi-type machine gun and a flamethrower. If it bleeds, you can kill it! Especially with your new toys.

New tutorial

To make sure you don’t get lost in the maze of VR controls, we’ll also add a new, fun tutorial. Hopefully it will be as intuitive as possible and it will teach you everything you need to know in order to survive. It will also explain the story better.

A-TECH CYBERNETIC CHAPTER 4: THE SURFACE - OUT NOW!

Hey guys!

We’re happy to announce that A-Tech Cybernetic’s latest update, Chapter 04: The Surface has arrived!
We’ve added the story’s next chapter, where you’ll have to wander around The Surface, the biggest and most spectacular play area yet in the game!
Be sure to admire the surroundings when catching your breath between the epic fights, it is truly remarkable!
Use the spacious terrain to your advantage with the help of your new badass sniper rifle we’ve just added. What a coincidence. ;)
