Following on from my last announcement, with a great deal of hesitation I have reset all the leaderboards for the game. This wasn't easy for me because I know a lot of people had worked hard to get the times they got and I don't want people to feel like their hard work was for nothing.
The final head unlock no longer allows you to upload your scores to the leaderboard and this means that the leaderboards represent a more even playing field for those that have not unlocked the final head or want to challenge themselves.
Thanks for the support. I hope you all continue to enjoy the game :)
Update: Options Menu and D-Pad Controls
Hi All,
First of all, thanks for buying Abomination Tower! As you may know, I'm a one-man team, and it means a lot to have had such great reviews of the game so far.
There is a new options screen which allows you to modify the volume of music and sound effects separately. The options screen is only available from the main menu but once you set the volume it will save and be applied every time you play. Please let me know if you come across any bugs in regards to this. I've pushed the update out rather quickly so testing was kind of minimal. I may add other options to this screen if needed.
Controls have had an update as well. I first rolled out the D-pad controls a couple of days ago, and they seemed to be working. I have had reports that in some cases Headless was running without input, so I have fixed up the dead zone on the horizontal axis (which I should have done the first time, please let me know if any problems continue).
I rely on you all to tell me when something is buggy for you, so please let me know if anything goes wrong and I'l try to get it fixed up as soon as possible. I've tested as much as I can on my machines and others, but I know things can slip through the cracks.
The last thing I wanted to mention is that the final head you unlock in the game grants you invincibility. When I created the game, before I thought about leader boards and before I became greenlit, this wasn't a problem. Now that leader boards are included in the game, being invincible makes it very easy to get a perfect time. This kind of sucks for people trying to get good speed runs of the game in a more legitimate manner. It pretty much breaks the leader boards.
I would really like to fix this problem, but it probably means wiping the leader boards clean. I don't want to wipe them, but it seems the only option. In addition to cleaning the leader boards I would also have either:
Remove the last unlock completely from the game or
Prevent the player from uploading a leaderboard score if they put on that head (even if by accident at the start of the level)
And of course the final option is to leave it all and not change anything.
This is kind of a tough call for me to make, so I would like to throw this one out to all of you, the community, to find out what you think is best. Let me know in the comments, and I'll try and come to a decision based on the majority opinion.
Thanks again and I'm glad you all seem to be having a pretty good time with the game. :)
Edit: I forgot to mention there is also Abomination Tower merch available from the website.
