Adventure Craft

Development Update 08/7/2020

Hello Everyone,

We want to apologize for the lack of information concerning the next update to Adventure Craft. A lot has happened since the last update which has slowed down the already incredibly slow development for this project, but believe it or not, I have indeed worked on the game nearly every day since the last update and there is a substantial amount of new free content still coming by the end of the year.

Sorry for not posting regular information here on the Steam page. There have been some really lovely long-standing fans who have been with us from the beginning, many who had paid for the game, who deserve to know what's going on. Those early funds helped keep our heads above water and enabled us to keep the game alive during its initial development. So we apologize to all those folks and thank you for your support.

The Future

On the bright side of things, I have very recently had some changes in my circumstances that will hopefully facilitate more work being done on the project so that we can finally complete the game's core experience, move the game out of Early Access, and provide more consistent content and information updates.

We plan on continuing to enrich the free core Adventure Craft experience until it is something that is worth paying for. Once we achieve this we will then start the process of making the optional paid high level DLC dungeons, the first of which will be free for all existing customers who paid for the game's initial development. The core game will still receive updates and remain free.

What's coming in the next update?

Here are some images with descriptions of a few of the things that I've been working on that will be in the 1.1 Adventure Craft update.

We have spent time updating the artwork on the world to make it more beautiful and to add more visual interest and variety

Stone Clan

There is a new faction of enemies in the world known as the Stone Clan.

The Stone Clan is an order of Stone Clad Knights that wield powerful stone swords that can be upgraded up to 4 times. They hang out in a new rocky biome, following members of the clan with higher standing, mining stone etc.

This little dude in the black armor is one of the Highest members of the Stone Clan. He is called a Stone Clan Duke. He carries the most powerful of the Stone Clan's swords and is typically seen leading lower level members of the Stone Clan around looking for trouble.

Berserk Psychos

These unpredictable guys hang out in their own new biome in the badlands. They will follow you around stalking you but will sometimes turn on you if a fight breaks out between you and other mobs.

Here you can see me holding one of the new weapons, the Iron Hook.

Cave Women

Another new Faction is cavemen and cavewomen. Cave Women are a "Brute" class humanoid that wield massive wooden clubs. Their weapons require Ancient Knowledge (a loot drop) that you can use to craft their awesome club.

Tile Map Diving Art

I have started adding large pieces of non-destructible environmental art to help divide the landscape. This creates more mazelike pathways through certain biomes and also prevents the player from building there in order to create more variety and richness in the visuals.

The Deacon's Bell

The Deacon's Bell is a new weapon that can be crafted from new loot dropped by the Dark Congregation boss down in the cave systems. It shoots a golden fireball like the one that the Dark Congregation uses. The fireball will push enemies back and also sets close mobs on fire when it's rung.

This Giant Cleaver can be crafted from loot dropped by a new Brutal Zombie that you will find roaming the graveyards tile maps.

Here I am weilding a Dark Greatsword, one of the new darkness weapons. Also you can see here that the the artwork on some of the objects near the player spawn have had some updates.

Goblin Tech Tree

Some new work has gone into how a mob camp can develop over time. We started with the Goblins around the spawn. You will see "goblin supplies" that can be used by goblins to establish small camps that will grow over time and need to be dealt with before becoming an issue.

Fishing Hole Updated

There's a variety of updates to the fishing holes and fishing shops. And some new weapons that you can use to deal with Sabertooth Bubblers.

Party Bullies
These pink bullies are new friendly mobs that will fight by your side and can transform normal goblins into friendly Party Goblins. A special item can also be acquired at the Dark Carnival to summon a Party Bully to help you win a tough battle.

Brutal Voodudes

The Voodudes have now been given their own new biome along with a new weapon to craft. Their biome is also home to a new mob, The Brutal Voodude. Farm him to craft a Voodude Club, a heavy poisonous club that inflicts many status effects.

Flaming Greatsword

Use flame crystals found in the underground cave system to craft a Flaming Great sword, a deadly sword with high attack damage and high chance to cause burning.

Honey Bee Great Sword

Venture into bear caves and farm the honey crystals you find inside to create this bear taming sword. It can transform a bear into a "Honeyed Bear" which will fight for you until it is killed.

This is just a small sample of what will come to Update 1.1. We have already made an enormous amount of new content and additions over and above what is listed above, but it would take far too long to list it all, and we want to keep some surprises for you guys as well. However, rest assured that there will be many more new weapons, items, monsters and biomes to enjoy.

Thanks again for your time and patience. We hope to bring more news soon about when we can deploy this update. If you have any questions about the game please feel free to say hello on Twitter @iENDERi

Development Update

Hi Everyone,

This is just a quick news update to let people know what is going on with development at the moment.

The Official Wiki

Over the last few weeks, I have been working on establishing the Offical Wiki for Adventure Craft. An official wiki is something that I was initially planning on doing later, but after reading about a player's frustration with the lack of information about the game we decided to go ahead and get the ball rolling.

I have never worked on setting up a Wiki before so there was a bit of a learning curve but I think I have the hang of it now. I have started by creating pages with information on the game's numerous items and recipes. From there I will be working on getting all the pages set up for the enemies and characters and so on and so forth.

Next, I will add more specific articles detailing more of the games other systems like the scripting of your party members' behavior etc.

I have been working on the Wiki full time over the last few weeks but now that it's got a fair amount of content I plan on reducing the overall time I spend on it and move focus back to finishing the game's beta branch so that it can be moved into the main game.

The next update

Update 1.055 is the next patch that we are working on.

Here are the current patch notes on what's coming in this update, which will most likely drop within the next few weeks depending on life. I'll post the full notes when we deploy.

Add a boarman sniper spawning agent to the borders of the CBoar area

The Official Adventure Craft Wiki is now live

Hello Everyone,

We are pleased to announce that we now have an Official Wiki set up on Gamepedia.com for Adventure Craft!

https://adventurecraft.gamepedia.com/Adventure_Craft_Wiki

We have been spending the last few weeks aggregating and verifying the data about the game's items, weapons, etc into a publicly available spreadsheet so that we can begin the process of entering the data into the Wiki as well as giving access to the information so that others may use it to contribute to the Wiki's articles.

So far the spreadsheet has complete data pages for Weapons, Food, Materials, and Devices.

The next pages to be added to the data spreadsheet will be Equipment, Shields, Grenades, and Enemies

If you would like to have a look at the Adventure Craft Wiki Data Spreadsheet you can view it here.

Note: The Wiki will reflect the most current build of the game which for now is the Beta Test Build. The test build will eventually be migrated to the Public build once we have finished fixing stability issues, and completed critical content.

Patch 1.054 is now available in the Testing Branch

Hi Everyone,

We are happy to announce that Patch 1.054 is now available to try in the testing branch! If you would like to have access to this new content you simply need to opt in. There is a link at the bottom of this announcement that explains how.

Now onto what's inside patch 1.054!

New Game Content

Updated Thorn Forests

The Thorn Forests are some of the most dangerous areas in the game world. These tile maps are home to dense swarms of thorny tentacle monsters that can choke escape routes, giant bees that can transform enemies into weird honey mutants, thorn infected machete wielding psychopaths, and other weird plant based stuff that wants you dead.

The Thorn Pen saplings, deployed by Blooming Thornbulls, will now grow over time eventually becoming Thornbull pens, giant plant monsters that spawn HUGE swarms of tentacle monsters and Thorn Lords.

Updated Thorn Lord minion spawning

Thorn Lords can spawn up to 5 thornbutts simultaneously. Thornbutts are small thorny masses that will move towards their prey before suddenly ramming into them doing damage with a 25% chance to poison. When defeated thornbutts now darken indicating that they can no longer move.

Bear Caves

Various biomes now have a chance to spawn a Bear cave. These small caves will spawn a few bears at the entrance during a certain time of the day and can also be freely entered to gather large amounts of honey from the stashes that the bears inside protect. These caves will also provide a way to farm the upcoming Bear Suit armor.

Increased Standard Cave Activity
Increased overall mob activity in the standard caves making them much more unpredictable to explore.

Updated Colossal Boar Border

The tile maps that surround the Colossal Boar Spawn have now been updated with a new enemy and more activity overall. Big game hunters with powerful rifles will hunt and fight with Boars and Boarman Snipers now appear in greater numbers with a higher fire rate and more health.

New Enemy: Brutal Boarman

The Brutal Boarman patrols the border tile maps of the Colossal Boar. Like the Brutal Punk, Brutal Boarmen wander around rallying nearby boarmen, as well as un-aggroed boars into a roving gang looking for a fight. They wield massive Stone Boar Clubs and their attack can smash a green eyed Friendly Boarman into the dirt killing them instantly.

New Weapons

Stone Boar Club
Farm the Boarman Totems in the Colossal Boar Border to gather the materials needed to craft this powerful new Stone Club. The Stone Boar Club does 10 Attack Damage with a 75% critical hit chance. It also has a 100% chance to transform a normal hostile Boarman into a friendly Green Eyed Boarman on Death.

Stunning Pine Fishing Net
Mod a standard Pine Fishing net with a "Fish Stunner" that you can find for sale in a Fishing Shop. This mod gives the Pine Fishing Net a high chance to stun a Sabertooth Bubbler.

Miscellaneous Game Tweaks

Added Totem Planting Agents to spawn from Boarman Houses

Updated Fishing Shops

Fishing shops now have live in NPC's that will open the shop in the morning and lock the door at night while they sleep
Fishing Shop Keepers can no longer be attacked by the player
(Note: There is still a bug that may prevent a shop owner from returning to their shop if they are killed. We are working to address that)

Adjusted loot drops for punk builders
Adjusted the drop rate of Goblin Scrap from all goblins
Added frog spawns to fishing hole tile maps
Big Fish Hunter no longer has a chance to deploy Boar Bombs during flee
Broken Stone swords can now be repaired

Update 1.05 is now available for testing.

Hi Everyone,

Well, it is a relief to be able to make this post and to say that the 1.05 update is now in a playable state. We have been working on this for so long, so it's really good to get it into people's hands and we look forward to working with people on it. Finally! There is a huge amount that has been added and changed, and below you will see the major things listed. They only account for about a third of all the changes, but they are the most important ones from a player's perspective. All in all we hope that the changes make the game a more fun and rewarding experience.

We have now deployed the 1.05 update to a Testing Branch so that players can have a chance to play it and test it for bugs before we deploy it into the main game. The patch will stay in testing between 1-2 weeks before it gets added to the main game.

If you would like to try the 1.05 Update you simply right click on the Adventure Craft title in your games list and select properties. Then click on the BETAS tab and select the Adventure Craft Testing branch of the game.

This will give you access to the testing version of the game without affecting your main game save. To switch back to the normal version just right click on the testing version in your game list and switch it back to NONE in the Beta tab with the drop down menu.

Please keep in mind that the 1.05 update is very large and is still a work in progress. It contains many new features, items, and other content that has been internally tested but also contains many elements that are still incomplete or in need of tweaking.

Please be sure to report any bugs, crashes or other weird things that you come across in the discussions section of the game's Steam page. We will be checking there daily to address anything that you find.

Patch Notes

Here's a list of the most significant changes that have been made since the last update.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Players will no longer lose their entire held inventory if they die a second time, instead the players inventory will simply drop where the player died and will stay there until retrieved.

Towns
The biggest part of this update is the Towns that you can now find in the world. Towns are composed of several tile maps each with a different theme or purpose.

You will know that a town is near when you enter the White Knight controlled town border tiles, which are full of bright white stone walls and other White Knight structures. In the town center you will find an Inn where you can spend the night, as well as static item shops that sell both common and unique items.

Additionally you will find a Farm, Graveyard, residential area that you can build your own structure on, a Ghetto or Slum area, as well a mysterious mansion.

Fishing Ponds

There are now several fishing ponds that will appear on the map where you can catch fish or get eaten by the giant fish that live there. Fishing tile maps are indicated by a fish icon on the map.

Acquire a fishing net and attack the places where you see disturbed water and a fish jumping out.

Colossal Boars

The Boarmen worship Colossal Boars in this new tile map. These giant hairy pigs can be farmed to obtain items to craft a new set of Colossal Boar Armor. Big game hunters often carry special weapons that can make taking these creatures down a lot easier.

Thorn Forests
Thorn Forests contain various new creatures and items. Currently it's a very dangerous area to explore and the items and treasures are still being worked on.

Adventure Craft is now FREE!

We are very happy to announce that Adventure Craft is now a Free game on Steam! From this stage forward Adventure Craft will be developed as a Complete Free Core Game, that offers fully optional Paid DLC.

Thank you to our Paid Customers

We would like to thank all of our initial Paid Customers for helping us get the game to this stage. Your monetary support as well as all of your player feedback has been invaluable to us in forming the game into what it is today.

As a way of saying thank you, we are preparing a "Founders Pack DLC" that will be Free for all Paid Customers who bought the game before the price change went into effect. This first DLC will include a selection of Unique Items, and other awesome goodies that are exclusive to the pack.

We will give more information about what the Founders Pack will contain over the coming weeks.

Note: In the spirit of fairness, the Founders Pack will be made available for purchase for $14.99 USD (the original price of the game) for folks who would also like access to this cool extra stuff and who want to support the game's development.

What's Next?

The fabled 1.05 update

Now that the game is Free, we must prepare the HUGE 1.05 update for release, which will add NPC towns, new recipes, items and Fishing, as well as significant gameplay updates. This update is already mostly complete, but we need to make sure that nothing in it breaks the game in an unexpected way before we release it, so we need to spend a bit more time working on it and then we will release it to a "testing branch" of the game for a week so that anyone who wants to test it can help us find any bugs that might come up. After that week we will move it into the main game.

This update is a core game update so it will of course be a Free update for everyone. More details on how you can participate in the testing of the update if you would like to will come soon.

A few personal words from the Game's Lead Designer
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adventure Craft has been an amazing journey for me since I initially thought of the concept for the game way back in 2012. As the game's development went though it's ups and downs, it was the many kind words of the people who were playing and enjoying the game that kept me working on it.

I was always blown away when I read any of the many super positive things written about the game and it's potential, and spent many nights staying up late watching "Let's Plays".

I am so grateful for everything that I have learned about game development and even more so for all the amazing and supportive people that I have met along the way. I won't mention names here but if you are reading this you know who you all are. Thank you.

Update on Free to Play Price Change and Monetization

Hi,

Thanks so much to everyone who responded to our "Fate of Adventure Craft" announcement! I was very touched by all the kind words about our game. It felt really good to read that.

We have been communicating with Valve about the change over the past couple of days and we have been approved for Free to Play! We have also been advised that we will indeed be able to reward our existing paid players which I am really excited about.

They also advised us on our plan about setting up a subscription model which has informed us on how to move forward with monetization.

Here's a rough overview of my plan moving forward.

Obviously this is all subject to change, but this should give you a general idea of what's happening in the short term.

------------------------------------------------------------

Deploy Price change on July the 11th. From that point forward, the Core Game will now be offered PERMANENTLY for Free. All content updates to the Core Game will be free. Once the price change goes into effect we will...

Finish configuring the 1.05 update and get it ready to deploy.

Deploy 1.05 to the testing branch for one week.

After the test week Deploy 1.05 to the main game package.

Address any issues with 1.05.

From this point we would like to release an update every 1-2 weeks to the core game. First to a testing branch for a week of testing, and then moved into the main public game. (You will be able to opt in and test the patch and provide feedback before it gets deployed to the main game if you would like to.)

...........................

Monetization

Rather than the subscription model...

All updates to the core game will remain Free. New recipes, items, Tile Maps, monsters, gameplay refinements etc, will be continually added to the core game to foster its continued evolution.

We will periodically release Paid DLC in the form of "End Game Dungeons/Item Packages", the first of which will be automatically Free for existing Paid Players.

The End Game Dungeon DLC will be high level "non persistent" worlds that will mainly appeal to people who have put enough time into the base game to have a set of weapons/equipment/items capable of surviving them. (I'll tell you more about how we plan on doing the DLC's and our plans for how they affect the Core game for Free players and Vice Versa as we move forward).

If you want insider info on this or have a question follow me on Twitter @iENDERi and I'll answer your questions.
