Update 0.2
Hello.
Today we are happy to announce the release of 0.2 update.
New Features
As promised we are introducing new features in the 0.2 update. We added the clue counter in the investigation to help you understand the progress of the investigation, we added subtitles for the conclusion of the investigation and we released mod tools - as a free DLC. We also added new previously not announced features. We increased the sharpness so that all of the details in textures are visible, we increased the global illumination intensity and we added a new font to the UI. The last thing we said was translating the text into Czech, German, and French.
Cut Features
Unfortunately, we had to cut some features as well. We had to cut the Chinese localization for this release. We will continue working on the translation but we can't release it at this time due to technical problems. Another feature we had to cut is the integration of Steam Workshop. We feel like we need more time to properly integrate it and we didn't want to postpone the release because of that.
Changelog
New Features:
Increased Image Sharpness
Investigation Clue Counter

What to expect in 0.2 update
Hello.
It’s been some time since we released the early access. We already started to work on next 0.2 update and in this post we would want to announce our plans for the new version.
New Features
We plan to add few smaller features to the level such as Investigation Clue Counter, that will tell you how many clues you found in the investigation, Investigation Conclusion Subtitles. We also want to add modding tools for our community. We will release mod tools alongside 0.2 update and we will enable Steam Workshop integration. We will also release soundtrack for the game both on Steam and on Spotify.
Language Support
Another feature is fulfilling our commitments to add multiple languages. For the 0.2 update we will add Czech, German, French and Simplified Chinese. You might also noticed that both our website and our Steam page is also translated. For now that’s all the languages we want to add to 0.2 update. For the future we think of adding Korean and Japanese but we can’t confirm that at this moment. Because of the localization we need to make some changes in the UI.
We don’t have any release date at this moment. We will keep you updated! Thank you for your continues support.
Akolyta Enters Early Access
Today is a new chapter for Akolyta and for our studio. We have decided to release Akolyta as early access.
Change of plans
Our initial plan was to get funding through traditional means - getting a publisher or investor deal - however our plan was unsuccessful. We therefore had to think of the future and what it holds for our game and how we want to continue our work. We therefore decided to change the release model and instead of a demo, we released an early access version. The game will be continuously updated based on your feedback and we believe that with your help we will be able to polish the game into a perfect state.
What can you expect
The early access version includes one level with all the intended game mechanics and storytelling. The playtime ranges between 30 - 60 minutes depending on your gameplay style. The game will be updated in the future and the promised features from the demo update 1.4.4 will be added to the early access version. We do not plan to add another level to the early access version.
The future
Because we work on Akolyta in our free time we estimate that the game will be in early access for one year. With your help and the sales generated from early access, we want to continue our work and release more content in the form of episodes. Each episode will include one new level.
We hope you understand our new direction and that you will continue supporting us! Thank you.

Demo Update 1.4.3
A new version of the demo has been released! The main news is that the investigation system is making a comeback along with some smaller features and improvements.
Investigation System Comeback
The biggest feature of this release is the comeback of the investigation system. If you’ve been with us for a while you might remember that we used to have this system before the 1.4 update. However, due to technical limitations, we had to deprecate the system for the 1.4 release. In this update, we completely reworked the system from scratch with our new UI design in mind. The UI now supports localization as well and you will get a small cinematic after you close the case. We’ve talked more in detail about our investigation system in our previous post.
Here’s a gameplay video of the first investigation. There are currently 2 investigations in the level.
Gameplay Feedback
We also added a small feature – interaction feedback sound. Whatever you do as a player – picking up a battery, magazine, document, audiologue, or a clue to a puzzle – you will hear a feedback sound when you perform this action.
New Visual Changes
We also made smaller changes to the visual side as well. Along with the two new environments created for the investigation, we also added two smaller changes. We added animated fog to the furnace room. The fog now acts more naturally and looks more like dust than it should represent. The other small change is the new color grading for the laboratory area. In the theater, we wanted to create a more nostalgic feeling of a place that was once great. But for the laboratory area, we wanted to create something that would feel more sterile and out of the normal world. The original color grading is still being used in the theater part of the level.
You can see the difference between the theater (right) and laboratory (left) color grading here:
We hope you will enjoy the new update and as always let us know what you think on our Discord server. We would love to talk to you and we love reading your feedback and potentially implementing it into the game!

Investigation System Preview
It’s been some time since we announced the development of the 1.4.3 update for the demo version. We have been hard at work on the new environments and the new investigation system. Today, we would like to share a video preview of the new investigation system with you.
How does it work
You as a player can venture into an investigation area. This is completely optional and you don’t have to do these. It’s completely up to you. Once in the area, you have to find between 5 – 6 different clues in the environment. If you struggle to find these don’t worry – there is a special ability – Detective – that can help you find them by highlighting them in the environment. You then have to open the conclusion screen and pick a number of the clues to reach a conclusion. The investigation system supports multiple conclusions. Once the investigation is done you will hear a full conclusion from Marshall and you will also gain 75XP – the highest amount that you can earn in the game. The investigation system is a great leveling opportunity.
What’s New in the Investigation System
If you have been with us for a while you might remember that the investigation system was implemented in the 1.3 version of the demo. Since then we decided to remove it for the 1.4 release and add it later on as we didn’t want to keep you waiting for the new release.
The new system is the same as it was in the 1.3 release but it has few new features. The UI for the investigation system is integrated into the localization system and can now be translated into different languages. It now features dynamic music that changes based on your progression throughout the investigation and the conclusion features a little cinematic recapping the conclusion.
The Update Itself
Besides the investigation system, the new update will also include dynamic music for the investigation, new environments, and a new interaction sound that you can hear in the video. This will serve as feedback to the player that they performed an action. In this case, entering an investigation area could be something like picking up a battery for your flashlight.
Right now we have 1/2 new environments completed and 95% of the investigation system is done. Once the investigation system is up and running in the first location we will then start our work on the second environment and implement the already existing system into the second investigation. This does not require the full re-work of the system – however, some work is still needed.
As of right now, we don’t have a release date yet. We are still working on it and we don’t want to set an unrealistic goal and then disappoint you. We will make sure to post updates when the time is right and we are sure of the quality of our work. The update will however be released this year. We will post smaller updates on our Discord server
Demo Update 1.4.2
After some time we have another update for the demo version for you! This update is a smaller one including some of your feedback as well as a few bug fixes. We also changed how we want to release new updates in the future.
What changed
There are two new features in the 1.4.2 update. We added new geometry to the environment that better reflects the environment setting and adds a little bit more detail – new office assets including paper documents, a new table, file folders, and an ashtray with cigarettes and we added an autopsy table, medical light, and medical stalls that will be featured in the last part of the level replacing the already existing assets. We also decided to implement your feedback – specifically, we changed the depression UI font to more reflect the situation that Marshall – the main character – will find himself in.
Updates Future
We also decided to change the way we release updates. In the past, we were focusing on big updates releases. The 1.4 update was probably the biggest one which took almost a year to make and debug. Because we don’t want to leave you without an update for another year we decided to start releasing smaller updates but more frequently. This way you will get new features and bug fixes more often and there will be more for you to see.
We hope you will enjoy the new update and as always let us know what you think on our Discord server. We would love to talk to you and we love reading your feedback and potentially implementing it into the game!

Demo Update 1.4 is Released!
We are excited to finally be here at this point and introduce you to the release of the new update for our demo - the 1.4 update. This update took much longer than expected to release but is full of new features and is more technically stable than previous releases were. We took into account your feedback and added our own ideas for improvement to the demo.
What made it into the update
We have made a lot of changes to the demo. Initially we weren't satisfied with the look of the level - especially the second part (Area 356) and with the events and length of the level. As a result of that we added two more parts of the level that replaced the original Area 356 parts with more than 50% new content. The theater level remains the same but it has been reworked and more details and environmental storytelling has been added. We also added a new narrative focus to the game. Marshall suffers from mental health problems - specifically depression and anxiety. There is a new mental health mechanic added to the second part of the level that will show how Marshall is feeling. His mental health will also have a minor effect on game mechanics. By adding this mechanic we decided to choose a narrative centered around the topic of mental health. We hope that with trained psychologists in our team, we will be able to shed more light on mental health. You can find all the changes and new features at the end of this article.
What didn't make it in the update
Although we have a localization system in place at the time of release multiple language support in the demo is not available. However, it's still on the table and we are still considering adding more options for you - the players. If we add new language support it will be in the form of text translation. As we are a small studio with no funding so far we are not able to re-record the audio in different languages. We also decided not to include a custom character model in the 1.4 update. It would take significantly more time and testing to get this feature done - a feature that is not essential to the demo - and we felt that you as a player have waited long enough to see the next update. We also wanted to expand the mental health features of the game but again for the same reason we didn't want to keep you waiting for more months - leaving you with an old demo version that we were not satisfied with. But all of these will be considered in the future development of the demo and they're not scrapped.
What happens next
We will be gathering your feedback as it is one of the most important things for us and in game development in general. We will also be fixing any existing bugs that we failed to spot during our internal testing. There is still more to come when it comes to the demo updates whether it's implementing your feedback, adding new features, or just polishing what we already have. Our plans remain the same. We still hope to get funding from a publisher or investor to be able to work on the game full-time. Before leaving you with changelog we would just like to say a huge thank you to all those who played our game, made a gameplay video, reposted our posts on social media, gave us a like, or wishlisted our game on Steam. Small things like these are the greatest motivation for any developer and it makes us keep going. So from the bottom of our hearts - thank you!
