Back in November 2019, I really was in a bad phase and I believed (oh so wrongly) that everything I had released on Steam was crappy/low-quality/asset-flip.
While some of my works are of a questionable quality, I won’t deny that, others are good and even my “worst work” (selling-wise) had buyers! Yes, I didn’t make much cash with them, but I had a blast doing everything and I want to do more. Take note that I won’t give new updates for the returning apps. Support will also be limited.
I'm back on Steam!
Where to begin?
At the beginning of November, I had announced my departure from game development on Steam, due to too much stress and anxiety. I thought my "career" as a developer was the cause, but it was more a combination of several factors. The harsh winter, colds, and personal reasons that I won't disclose here.
I quickly regretted my decision, so I came back, which was quite a challenge because my Steamworks account was archived. Many thanks to the Steam support for giving me access again!
Besides, doing stories on Wattpad and not being read, no thanks!
Where are my removed stories?
Not wanting to throw it all in the trash, they're all here. Although the quality of many of them is questionable, they have fans. There are also two new stories. "Iveri: The 1,000 Story", a 1k word story, and "Alice Lorange", a novella Twine adaptation of Alice's adventures, with a brand new ending.
Will they return to Steam?
Not directly. More explanations below.
What are my future plans?
My future plans are to release two big projects. Two collections (or anthologies) of visual novels made with RPG Maker MV (1 story per EXE) to rework and improve everything I've created so far from scratch.
One collection would be for my stories of all ages, the other for R18. My old stories (the packages) would be linked to both collections. For example: someone buying the 18+ collection would have Shantalia and Corali'hu, Hot Takes, etc. Of course, I'll no longer give support and updates for my old works.
Both collections would be released in Early Access with 1 story complete (or almost complete, a wait and see) and more to come, to get reviews from the community, beta testers, and in short, not to make the same mistakes as before.
Because I used to do them all by myself, and apart from a spell check by friends, no criticism during development was made and the product was "finished" and rushed. With early access, I would know more where to go and what to improuve during developpement.
Exemples: * One dialog from X character isn't clear / comprehensible enough. * Something happen but there is no explanation about why said event occurs. * How do X get Y powers? Explanations please.
I'm aiming for an release for Windows, Linux and Mac. * For Mac, if it's still possible to release unidentified applications on Steam.
What about the money? It was non sustainable before...
I know, but there is a big difference by releasing 1 story every mouth, so 100 USD fee per month, and releasing 2 big projects in… idk… one per year? I don’t have an ETA for completion set in stone yet. I need to know first how long it will take me to do one full story.
With a 10% discount! This ultimate edition includes both the story of “Les Quatre Alice”, “Lorange Journey” and the DLC “Three Emilie”. The good endings of Les Quatre Alice and Lorange Journey had been extended to connect even more with “A.L.A.N.” universe. Thus “The Connected Rifts” franchise is born…
‘’Les 4 Alice Lorange Journey’’ to replace ‘’Les Quatre Alices’’ and ‘’4 Alice Lorange Journey’’.
The store page is online, and the release is near.
"A.L.A.N.: Rift Breakers" to replace "A.L.A.N." and "Alan Rift Breakers".
I started working on the French text. The English translation will follow.
"Entre-Deux: Cursed" to replace "Entre-Deux", "Dark Fairies", "Shirina" and "Cursed Queen Wicked Witch".
I’ll rewrite part of these stories to make them happen in the same universe.
All those stories will be linked by the elusive Rifts and thus they made a franchise called “Connected Rifts”.
There is also "Hack the Core" in "Les Petites", an upcoming franchise of FREE Short Stories!
Those stories will come from contests, jams etc. When more stories will be made, they will be added as FREE DLC.
The Twine remake of Dark Fairies and Shirina is on the way!
Onward to the future : “Shirina” and “Dark Fairies” are my last RPG Maker games.
I had come to the decision to no longer develop short visual novels with RPG Maker. Instead, all my future projects will be made in Twine.
Why?
1. With Twine, I can write better stories, with more character development, while also adding easy achievements. (I said “easy”, not “spammy”. ^^)
2. I find it easier to work with Twine and I had more fun developing with this engine.
3. Both “Les Quatre Alices (The Four Alices)” and “A.L.A.N.” had been remade in Twine since their storylines needed improvement. The same will surely happen with “Dark Fairies” & “Shirina”.
Then, why continuing to do RPG Maker games if, every single time, I had to redo them in Twine to ‘’fix’’ the stories? This also forces the customer to pay twice for a similar product, in a way, and I really don’t like that. So, no more RPG Maker, onward to the future with Twine!
Important: This doesn’t mean that I think that “Shirina”, “Dark Fairies”, “A.L.A.N.” and “Les Quatre Alices” are crappy games. They aren’t and I’m happy to have developed them. ːsteamhappyː
I also wish to thank everyone for your support. I’ll see you soon with a Twine story! (Probably a remake that mixes the universes of “Dark Fairies” with “Shirina”…)
