Albert and Otto: Update

UPDATE v1.2

Another week another update. This time I have added a couple of features and a bit of story content. All your constructive reviews/comments are key to making A&O a better game so thank you for all your input.

Features

  1. Added a shattered picture frame which the player must fill in by collecting shards scattered throughout the game. Collecting all 25 of them will reveal a big clue to Albert's past.

  2. Added in-game menu which includes options for the following:

    • music volume slider
    • sfx volume slider
    • Vsync toggle on/off
    • Resolution Settings
    • Quality settings
    • Levitation sensitivity slider (for controller)

  3. Added mouse support in menus

  4. Added a death counter at the end of the game that will show player how many times he has died and how. Share your screenshot on twitter and tag @albertandotto I really look forward to seeing your stats :)

Fixes

- Fixed rare animation glitch that caused final boss to turn head wrong way
- Fixed rare glitch that made Albert slide on the floating tree log.
- Fixed minor bugs and glitches

As always, thank you for supporting Albert & Otto

Review Round-Up

Albert & Otto is making its way through the press, and we've rounded up some of our reviews! Come read what the press is saying about us.

- Geeky Hobbies: 4 out of 5

The puzzle design is where Albert and Otto really stands out. The game only has a few different mechanics but the game does such a good job utilizing them in order to make some interesting puzzles. While I wish the game had more mechanics, the game does a good job mixing up how you use them so it doesn’t feel like you are doing the same things over and over again.

- Modvive: 98% EXTRAORDINARY

Albert and Otto is a stimulating thrill ride of difficult puzzles and stunning art. This is not a game meant for casual beginners, and like Super Meat Boy, is only for those who wish to enjoy a satisfying struggle.

- Se7enSins: "I would genuinely consider this to be a no-brainer purchase."

Good 2D puzzle platformers are few and far between. K Bros Games has finally awakened the genre from its dormant state with their first game, Albert & Otto.

- Just Adventure: B+

Albert & Otto gets top marks for requiring players to utilize a wide arsenal of skills for both platforming and puzzles. In addition, the ambience of the game is perfectly realized through the minimalist design, and it would be easy to see a complex narrative develop from the story's simple beginning.

And an interview with Wake & Game, if you dare to take a peek into what's brewing in developer Nik Kostic's head:

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING ALBERT & OTTO :)

*SUGGESTIONS and BUG REPORTS*

Hey Guys

It has been awesome reading what you had to say this past week. Some of you had great ideas and took the time out of your day to post suggestions which is really cool. I have already started implementing some of them and they will be released as part of the next update in a couple of weeks.

In light of this I have opened up this thread to keep suggestions and bug reports in one place.
Just pop them in here and ill address them one by one.

Would love to hear more from you. It's just me working on this game so it's really cool to get input from a fresh perspective. A big reason behind me releasing Albert & Otto episodically was to get you guys involved in the creation process so definitely expect more community based stuff in the next few weeks.

Stay Awesome
Nik

Small Update: Performance Fix

Hey Guys.

A couple of you were experiencing issues with non-smooth game-play and hard to make jumps. Most of this can be attributed to the game being set to ULTRA graphic quality as its default setting in the launcher causing slightly older computers to lag.

If you are experiencing such issues and your computer meets the minimum requirements please turn the settings down a notch or two in the game launcher and your experience should improve tenfold. (the latest update now selects the medium option by default)

Big thank you to the people who have reported bugs and suggestions for improvements, I am hard at work on an Update and will have a little extra content for you guys in a few weeks as well :)
