Alchemy Story is coming to Early Access on August 22!
Hi everyone, I'm really happy to announce that the Early Access release will be on August 22! I've been developing Alchemy Story for almost a year now and I'm really excited for everyone to play it.
I'd love to answer any questions you have about the game!
Devlog - June 2019
Madeline Fineyarn
Once you help her settle in, this cute tailor will open her boutique in Rosehill and you’ll be able to shop for new outfits!
The Market
Unlock eight market stalls in the town center! You can place ingredients for sale and villagers will come browse around your market every day to buy some of your goods.
Fishing
Fish in the village, the forest, the mine or at the beach! The fish will be useful to complete quests, cook dishes and to sell at the market.
New Items
Find up to five different types of fish around town! The kind of fish you can catch will depend on the area where you are fishing and on the time of day. Some of them are much harder to catch!
The Map
Check out a full map of Rosehill! You can use it to find your way around and learn more about the different areas and the residents of your village.
Guide Me
This new feature will help newcomers explore the town more easily! Pick an area you want to visit and follow the arrow to be guided to your destination.
Small Additions & Bug Fixes
You’ll now gain bonus gold for completing all three potion requests in a day.
Added water particles and improved the water shader.
Madeline, William and Penelope will now send delivery quests.
New base outfit for Arabella.
Devlog - May 2019
Penelope Fineyarn
A new character joins the village! Penelope is a skilled miner that will help you explore the mine. She sells hammers, minecarts and different ores everyday.
The Mine
I spent most of my time this month working on this feature, and it’s now mostly finished. I plan to add secret areas and more quests in the mine later on in development.
Furnace & Minecarts
To progress in the mine, you’ll need to fuel your furnace. Different ingredients such as wood, coal and maple leaves can be used as fuel.
You can buy up to six different minecarts, one for each type of ore. Each one will allow you to carry more of that item in your inventory.
New Items
Now that the mine is open you’ll be able to gather stone, coal, silver, gold, sapphire and ruby! These items will be useful either as building materials, to fuel furnaces and ovens, to brew potions or to trade in exchange of coins.
The Hammer
This new tool can be upgraded up to four times in Penelope’s shop to spend less energy breaking rocks!
Bug Fixes
Fixed the autorun feature. The player now stops running when interacting with an object or a villager.
Fixed the quest interface. It doesn’t display a completed quest when loading the game anymore.
Fixed the axe upgrade. William now displays properly the axe upgrades in his shop.
Devlog - April 2019
William Sharpleaf
After rescuing him from the Witch’s spell, you’ll be able to befriend William, the village’s lumberjack. He sells lumber, mushrooms and better axes that will allow you to explore further into the forest.
Gnome Builders
Three little gnomes will lend you a hand to thank you for transmuting William. With their help, you’ll be able to build and upgrade different buildings around town. For now, you’ll be able to build a hot air balloon and upgrade your barn and coop.
I plan to add more buildings available for construction as development goes on, such as a market, fishing nets and a house expansion.
Hot Air Balloon
Once it’s built, the hot air balloon will allow you to fast travel into the forest to previous levels you’ve already unlocked.
Coop & Barn Expansions
The barn and the coop both have three different sizes. Both buildings start as small and you’ll be able to upgrade them twice. The expansions allow you to keep new types of animals, or simply to keep more of them on your farm.
Feedback & Development
Thanks to the streamers and youtubers who played Alchemy Story in the past month, I’ve been able to gather feedback and improve the game. Here are some of the changes I’ve made based on that.
The groundhog is easier to find as she stays out of the ground until you talk to her and start managing your garden.
Charlotte sends a letter to better explain how the garden works.
After adopting your first animal, Noah will send you a letter to explain how to feed and take care of them.
The main interface will notify you of which area you are in. I’m still working on a map, but this information will let you know quickly where you are.
I’ve fixed collisions so it’s easier to interact with certain objects.
Thank you to everyone who supported Alchemy Story and shared their suggestions with me!
