AQR Plays Well With Dinosaurs

A recent situation between the makers of Mini Metro and Mini Motorways has been resolved amicably.

All Quiet Roads continues on!

AQR lives on!

Recently I announced that All Quiet Roads was going dark, but we have reached a new understanding.

Things you can expect:

  • AQR will continue living on as a game beyond April '23. ːsteamhappyː
  • At some future time another city with an iconic landmark will be added. (It will have to happen during a vacation from my day job!)
  • A few regrettable gameplay bugs will eventually get fixed.
  • I am very happy about this outcome!

On the other hand:

  • AQR will never become the property of another developer. It remains owned by Scheme Street, LLC, likely in perpetuity.
  • The source code for AQR will not become open-sourced, nor given to anyone else. (sorry, because it contains some pretty awesome algorithms to move all that traffic. I may find a way to summarize the algorithms someday.)
  • Persistent visual bugs in AQR (like the Stadium sometimes missing its outline) will continue for a long time to come.

Thank you for everyone's support and kind words. Please don't get mad or boycott any other companies because of this. I am certain at this point that we are all trying to be friendly, to the best of our abilities.

In fact, if another game in this genre is released by anyone, and it isn't just a rip-off like that bus game was, I will be one of the first people to purchase that game. We all get along nicely!

In this ordeal I have realized that no matter how much of their life a developer puts into their game it is pretty accurate to say that the life of games is in the hands of players. Players are the best. I feel blessed for each of you that plays, has bought, or just watches videos of All Quiet Roads. You're my heroes!

All Quiet Roads is over

All Quiet Roads has reached its end.

The game will be modified in the next few weeks to not require leaderboards nor any server assets. No more sales of AQR will happen after April, 2023. People who have purchased the game can continue playing it, but it will not be available to anyone new after April is over.

I got forced into this situation because of baseless claims that I haven't the money nor energy to defend. It's easier to just pull the plug. For all the loyal fans of AQR, I'm sorry. I made this game because it was close to my heart. I thought I was taking the genre of road building to exciting new places, introducing a multitude of unique gameplay features. I feel like that passion has been trampled upon. I feel like my player's passion has been dismissed. I am sorry.

Version 4.01

Changes for turn based mode beta. Consult AQR Discord server for details.

Version 4.00 - The Fourth Star Achievement

The new achievement signaling that you are a Champion of the city triggers at AQR 14229. If you already have that score on the leaderboard you might automatically be granted the achievement.

Some world cultures do not like the number four. Some do not like thirteen. Other numbers hold superstitions to other people. Those who do not like the number four will want to exit their games before achieving the AQR score of 14229.

Version 3.35 - Cleanup St Louis

St Louis now looks new and spiffy like most other cities in All Quiet Roads. The background artwork is inspired by the topography of the St Louis area.

Version 3.34 - Restore scores from achievement and leaderboard data

Version 3.33 was unfortunate, and wiped a lot of people's local data. Version 3.34 should restore unlocked cities and the stars achieved. However, it is unlikely to preserve your saved games. I am very sorry about that.

Version 3.33 - behind the scenes changes for Turn Based

Hopefully nothing in this version changes gameplay in the Classic version of AQR. One notable change is that roads turning red are timed more accurately by the game elapsed clock rather than the real time clock.

Version 3.21 - Tokyo map fixes

This patch fixes several problems in the Tokyo map, especially in the area around the Tokyo Skytree landmark.

  • Improve the shape of the waterway immediately to the NorthWest of the Skytree.
  • Move the Skytree a little ways eastward.
  • Improve the construction of bridges above the Skytree (they sometimes started on land)
  • Fix several visual holes in the Tokyo map.
  • Repair two islands in the Northwest of Tokyo Bay, and one island in the Northeast of Tokyo Bay so that the construction grid appears overtop of the island.

Version 3.17 - Fix the screen resolution progressively shrinking bug.

This version corrects the screen resolution.

In a recent patch to try and keep the game on the correct monitor an old bug was reintroduced where switching between windowed and fullscreen resulted in a loss of resolution. Continuing to switch would make the windowed mode smaller and smaller while fullscreen became more pixelated. While version 3.17 fixes this bug there may (again) be an issue with finding the correct monitor.
