DEVLOG - FIRST DEVLOG OF 2024 - PREMIER DEVLOG DE 2024
The melodic sound of a crackling fire and the delightful aroma of hot chocolate filled the air. Devs and their families cozied up around the warm fireplace, bathed in the soothing glow cast by the flames. As some embarked on long journeys, travelling homeward to reunite with family, a collective spirit of joy and celebration embraced them. Together and around the world, they exchanged gifts and shared heartfelt moments with their loved ones.
As the old year bid its final farewell, the anticipation of a new beginning was felt among the devs. While ringing in the new year, the frost-kissed winter breezes gently whispered, carrying with them the promise of creativity and secrets of Aloftâs past and future.
Well-rested and recharged, the devs are now ready to get back to work. Letâs see what theyâve been up to.
Welcome to the first Devlog of the year.
Our familiar furry friends are getting an animation update! HOW CUTE???
âGood soupâ⊠NOT! Yucky! Stinky! We donât recommend consuming the swamp water.
Take in the variety of colours from these new textures! Who doesnât love yeeting themselves into a pile of crunchy leaves?
The corruption nodes are getting a challenging upgrade that only the bravest of explorers would dare to cleanse⊠watch out for those tentacles! (Note: the 3D model is a work in progress, the complete textures can be seen in the 2D concept art)
Kyle is busy working on some ambient music for upcoming biomes that we canât reveal just yet. However, there is lots of work also being done on existing biome sounds, like the cave acoustics! Put on your headphones and have a good listen.
Check out the addition of customizable POI elements in the island editor (including ruins modelled by MJ!). Improvements to the editor also include the ability to snap multiple building pieces together, and move them around as a grouped object.
Simon has been working hard on optimising the gameâs performance. Check out these huge increases in FPS!
Aloft is set to release as Early Access in 2024 (more info on that soon!) so the team is focusing on refining and optimising the gameplay experience, integrating assets, and bug-fixing. In the meantime, we want to shout out to the community for your continued support. Thanks to you, Aloft has been nominated for the Most Anticipated Award at The Debug Indie Game Awards! Now we need your help to win, so please use this link to cast a vote for Aloft!

As usual for all demo updates, previous saves will not be usable with the new version of the game. Additionally, players can access older versions of the game by going to Properties -> Betas -> Select the Beta you would like to opt into.
Bear in mind that those versions will no longer be supported and that you might encounter bugs, unbalanced and missing features as those older versions do not accurately represent the latest progress.
In the Combat & Corruption update, slash your way through enemies with new combat moves, powerful combos, and the all-new bow and arrows! Upgrade your tools with rare trinkets, and use bandages to heal yourself in the middle of a fight! Beware though, the corruption also got some upgrades! Its new gloomy look comes with dangerous Fungi Bombs, ready to blow up in your face (or your enemies', if you play your cards right)!
While exploring new islands, keep your eyes open; you might see our new trees, clouds, animal variants, and visual overhaul. To accompany your exploration, you might be able to hear 15+ original tracks that adapt to your actions!
Even more features await, such as 3rd person view, custom keybinds, new storage options, and an improved island editor.
This is our biggest update yet, and we can't wait for you to rise into the world of Aloft once more!
