Eventful Holidays

It's officially the season of light and, in keeping with the occasion, we are excited to announce several new features that will help you shine bright like the star that you are! After all, our community is one of the greatest things about AltspaceVR; and since we're the premier place for events in virtual spaces, this holiday season it's all about events. We've made finding them, attending them, and hosting them even easier. So, whether you're looking for a place to meet up with friends over a friendly card game, or if singing your heart out is more your speed, we've got you covered for that and everything in between.

For the full rundown of everything we're releasing today, see our blog post, but here's the short version:


  • Updates to UI of Main Menu
  • Interactable in-world billboards
  • Introduction of Event Categories (Talk Show, Presentation, Performance, Watch Party, Gaming, Meetup)
  • Updates to in-world Event Creation flow
  • Beta features moving to opt-in toggle in settings menu
  • Releasing new environment variants to align with new Event Categories
  • Releasing new interactables: microphone (turns on megaphone) and laser-pointer

Patch Notes - November 5, 2019

Features:

  • Grab-toggling for all 6DOF platforms: click the grab button to grab-and-hold, click again to drop. Can disable from the Settings menu.
  • Users will no longer be auto-muted when entering a space (unless a presenter has muted the whole room).

Bug fixes:

  • Fix version number reporting on Steam
  • Fix edge case where disconnecting does not trigger a retry
  • Fix stationary blimp in the Vista
  • Fix edge case where the HUD could disappear during space transition
  • Only show browser limit dialog once per space
  • Only show world/event instructions dialog after player has spawned
  • Don't send messages when you hit Enter. You must now explicitly click Send.
  • Fix MRE collider layers so they do not block player, but block cursor, by default
  • Un-megaphone automatically when you toggle "raise hand" to OFF.

  • loading screen skybox and animating boxes no longer flashes to different colors during loading
  • loading screen skybox only showed up on initial load - now it shows up when going between spaces
  • loading screen will no longer show the motion blinder effect.
  • Minimized HUD collision volume, as some clicks on the background were ignored.
  • PC Version: Map F/V keys to look up and down (just like W/A/S/D for movement and Q/E for looking left and right)
  • PC Version: Enabled Toggle HUD Visibility(ctrl alt p) shortcut for everyone.
  • PC Version: If your HUD is invisible, pressing escape will make it visible
  • PC Desktop version: changed default zoom level to use a more aesthetically pleasing field of view.
  • PC Desktop version: changing zoom level (ctrl mouse wheel) should not change HUD size.
