We love to bring you new game updates, especially when they contain some cool features that have been requested for a long time! Today, we are happy to share with you that the 1.40 Update Open Beta for American Truck Simulator is now ready to be tested and tried-out by our community!
However, please keep in mind that this is the first iteration of the open beta, which is still very much a work-in-progress build. If you want to take it for a spin, you can help contribute by reporting any bugs you may encounter in the appropriate section of our official forums. Your feedback and reports are extremely valuable for our team and we thank you in advance for taking the time to help us out.
Please bear in mind that this huge update will likely render many community MODs incompatible. MOD authors may need to adjust and update their mods to work with this update. We strongly recommend that you use a profile without any third-party modifications if you wish to participate in the 1.40 Open Beta.
So, let's take a look at what the 1.40 update has in store!
New Visual Lighting System
One of the biggest changes you'll notice when you first hop into your truck cab is the implementation of our new visual lighting system. However, this isn't just a simple change of our skyboxes; our new light system is fully dynamic and can now change not just according to current weather, but also based on simulated camera exposure taking into account not just current daylight intensity and weather, but also surface properties of game world elements in the view.
This new light system and the start of our new physical light model is a very important step towards a complete and better physical model of the whole world in our game, and how real it looks and works. All of our lighting is now based on real physical ratios and units, to make it as realistic as possible.
To prepare for this new light system, our teams had to make a lot of changes to existing in-game world objects; including a majority of the in-game assets, textures, and materials to better work with the new physical model of the new light system.
We are very excited for you to be able to experience and immerse yourself in driving in the new light. The result is the combination of thousands of hours by our programmers and visual effect artists and many other teams involved in the creation process of this new system.
During this open beta, your feedback is incredibly important and valuable to us, so we ask that you please submits yours to us in the 1.40 section for American Truck Simulator on our forums which you can find here.
Extended Chassis update
For the 5th anniversary of American Truck Simulator, we wanted to bring a heavily-requested feature to our community to celebrate its progress and journey so far! This suggestion has always frequently appeared in our suggestions pile, and today we are thrilled to bring you an extended chassis range to all current truck models.
Our vehicle team has worked hard to bring you a range of long and short chassis types, allowing you to customize your truck for the job at hand. This update will feature 4x2, 8x4, and 8x6 chassis types which are used for a range of different trailers.
4x2s, also known as single-axle trucks, are frequently used for local distribution deliveries by supermarkets and by logistic companies for hauling doubles. 8x4 and 8x6 chassis are the big guns of the heavy-haul industry and can handle just about any load you decide to take on. All of these new options bring more variety to you, the driver! So we hope you enjoy this surprise addition to 1.40.
Here's a full list of all the new extended chassis options now available in the open beta:

New Mexico & Oregon DLC Viewpoints
Back in October last year, American Truck Simulator saw the arrival of viewpoints to the states of Washington and Utah after their popular debut in Idaho! Today we are happy to share with you that 1.40 sees the introduction of new viewpoints to the states of New Mexico & Oregon.

For newer players of our titles, Viewpoints are certain spots found across the map, where drivers can activate a special in-game cutscene with a short showcase of a near location or place of interest. These can be found displayed as a grey question mark on your GPS, so be sure to stop and discover them on your journeys.
You also have the option to skip the viewpoint or replay it if you wish to watch it again. From populated cities to historic monuments, each viewpoint highlights a point of interest or industry, so make sure to discover them all!
Changelog
Visual: New Visual Lighting System Map: New Viewpoints in New Mexico & Oregon DLC's Vehicles: New 4x2, 8x4, and 8x6 chassis Western Star 49X update including sleeper variants and Set-Back configurations
So enjoy all the new additions, but please remember: It's only an experimental open beta, not a stable public version - so you may encounter bugs, instability, kinks, or crashes. It's completely okay if you want to wait for the final release. But if you're interested in helping us to move there faster, we'll appreciate all of your feedback on our forum and your bug reports in this section.
Please check our modding wiki to get details pertaining to mods for the game.
If you wish to participate in the open beta, you can find this version in the public_beta branch on Steam. The way to access it is as follows: Steam client → LIBRARY → right-click on American Truck Simulator → Properties → Betas tab → public_beta → 1.40. No password required.

Hauling Hope Event
Virtual Truckers of the world, we are all still enduring hard times, as the world continues to battle COVID-19. The fight is not over, but we can see light at the end of the tunnel, we see hope in the creation of the COVID-19 Vaccines and their rapid worldwide roll-out. We would like to, once again, recognise the selfless drivers and support crews working so incredibly hard to achieve this goal. So, we are inviting you to take part in personally delivering these vaccines, across any and all trucking territories in the World of Trucks Hauling Hope[ event!
Last year, in March, we asked you all to respond in the way we thought best, which was to take part in the unprecedented #TruckAtHome event. The community effort was incredible, it was at a level of participation that we had never seen before. We celebrated with you all further, by delivering financial support and supplies directly to those on the front line, for each new milestone that the community reached.
This time, it will be your own personal journey. Our slogan is #HaulingHope, and the goal is for you to deliver this fragile and precious cargo undamaged, so you will need to be extra careful when making your delivery. The cargo will have a zero-damage tolerance and will require a Fragile Cargo skill, level 1, to be carried.

This event is a chance to take part in delivering something more than just a cargo, it's a chance to deliver hope to the world, if only virtually.
Where you go and how far you haul will be up to you. What is important is that you enjoy the event, spread the word so that others can share the hope, and stay safe and healthy.
#HaulingHope Event Rules:
Using External Contracts with a World of Trucks-connected profile in Euro Truck Simulator 2, American Truck Simulator or both, your Personal goal is to complete at least 7 undamaged deliveries of COVID-19 Vaccine cargo across any trucking territories. To be able to see and carry this cargo, you need to have a Fragile Cargo skill of at least level 1.
Reward:
Personal goal: Your contribution of 7 or more deliveries of COVID-19 Vaccine cargo will gain you:
The event will be concluded on Sunday 7th February 23:59 UTC.
#XmasWiseGiving + #CruisingColorado Conclusion
The holiday season is a time of rest for most people, but for the logistics industry, it is the busiest time of the year! Over the past couple of months, drivers from across the world have united to deliver gifts wisely on both sides of the Atlantic in our Christmas Wise Giving Event.
Thousands of deliveries needed to be made for cities across both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator and our #BestCommunityEver delivered! We thank you for all the hard work and time each of you put in to help unlock rewards for all drivers to enjoy in-game.
In less than 24 hours, drivers have already completed their personal goals of completing 15 deliveries across Europe/USA and 75 of the 350 hearts and gifts needed to receive the first tier of the community rewards. By the end of the first day of the event, Osnabruck became the first city to max out on both given and received gift deliveries and you, the community, reached the first tier!
With that kind of momentum, it was no wonder that the final tier of the community goal was achieved on the 27th of December, just 10 days after the beginning of the event! The rate of deliveries completed even had Santa in the North Pole shocked!
We want to thank every single driver who contributed to the event, and to those who really went the extra mile. It really brings a huge smile to the faces of the SCS team to see how much you enjoyed these events, and how you managed to complete them quicker every year, despite the many deliveries we challenge you with. We hope you enjoy the unique Christmas accessories and paint jobs that you have so rightfully earned and use them as a reminder of this year's event.
However, the #XmasWiseGiving event wasn't the only event you could take part in during the festive period. For the first time ever, we had 2 consecutive World of Trucks events running alongside each other!
On November 12th, with the release of Colorado for American Truck Simulator, we began the #CruisingColorado event. We set a goal for truckers to drive 60,000,000 combined miles whilst delivering to or from any of the 13 cities in the state of Colorado. With Colorado themed rewards to be earned, it only took our community 7 days to reach the goal of 60 million miles, incredible!
This really does go to show the strength and power of our community when we work together. We thank you for your support and we look forward to sharing more development news with you in the future.
Wyoming: Guess the place!
Today we are excited to share with you some pictures from Wyoming, our upcoming DLC expansion for American Truck Simulator. However, while we usually talk about the landmarks and areas that we decide to show, we thought it might be fun to switch it up a little for this post!
We think our community is pretty good when it comes to detective work, so we thought we might present you with the challenge of figuring out the locations of these images! Think you know the answers? Let us know in the blog comments or any of our official social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and you could win a steam key for Wyoming on us when it releases!

Please keep in mind, however, both the lighting and map expansion seen in these shots are still 'work in progress' and may not represent the final product at the time of release. Also, if you like what you see, be sure to add Wyoming to your Steam Wishlist! It really helps to support us with releases of our future content.
Back in October last year, Update 1.39 for American Truck Simulator saw the arrival of viewpoints to the states of Washington and Utah after their popular debut in Idaho! Today we are happy to share with you that our next 1.40 update for ATS will see the introduction of more viewpoints in the states of New Mexico & Oregon.
For newer players of our titles, Viewpoints are certain spots found across the map, where drivers can activate a special in-game "cutscene" with a short showcase of a near location or place of interest. These can be found displayed as a grey question mark on your GPS, so be sure to stop and discover them on your journeys. You also have the option to skip the viewpoint or replay it if you wish to watch it again.

Happy New Year! We hope you found time to enjoy the festive period and time to relax and settle down with a cup of your favourite hot drink. However, we know that many of you continued to work hard over the Christmas period as you took part in our #XmasWiseGiving World of Trucks event!
With brightly-decorated Christmas gift trailers and festively-painted trucks, drivers from across the world came together to help deliver gifts across the Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator with a goal to achieve, and on the 27th of December you, our #BestCommunityEver, completed the community goal!

Thanks to all your deliveries and hard work, you have unlocked the final tier of the community goals! If you have completed your personal goals, you will be able to claim your rewards under the Events tab on the My Page section of WorldofTrucks.com.

If you still have not found the time to complete all your deliveries or have yet to start, don't panic! You will have until 23:59 UTC on the 17th of January 2021 to complete the event with the special gift trailers, using the World of Trucks external contracts and earning festive rewards for your truck exterior and cabin. If you have only just found out about our event, you can find more information about how to take part here.
Another event that has been running since early November is the #CruisingColorado event, in which you can earn free rewards for delivering to and from cities in our latest expansion for American Truck Simulator. Even though the community goal was reached within a week, we wanted to make sure that drivers could complete at their own pace. This event will also end on the 17th of January 2021 at 23:59 UTC, you can read the rules and find out how you can participate in this event

We look forward to bringing you lots of exciting content for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator in this new year and we look forward to sharing development news in the near future.
Happy New Year 2021
The year 2020 is coming to an end in a few hours. It's been a very hard year for most of the world, but we want to focus on something positive here. Despite some setbacks and hard decisions to make, the work on new map expansions, new vehicles and parts, new game features, and our 3D engine improvements continued at a solid pace. We have managed to keep our chins up and remain productive, and both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 keep getting better.
Allow us to reminiscence and review the content and features we have released throughout 2020!
[previewyoutube="S1zs_fmu1pE;full"]
Let's all hope that the new year will be way better than the one we are leaving behind. As teased and hinted in our Christmas Special stream (recording here), our teams are already working on a big pile of very exciting projects and updates, including quite some game-changers. We're looking forward to bringing you more specific news as we develop and release the new features.

Happy Holidays!
Our dearest #BestCommunityEver,
The festive end of the year is fast approaching, and the team at SCS Software is taking a bit of time off to enjoy the holidays and to recharge our batteries. We will slow down the pace of news updates and social media posts over the next couple of weeks, but we'll be back in January with new energy and lots of new topics to cover.
Meanwhile, we trust that all the automated systems we have put in place will keep on working only with a bit of monitoring needed. So you should be able to enjoy our new Christmas Wise Giving event on World of Trucks...
... as well as still being able to catch up on the Cruising Colorado event if you are thinking of getting the new map expansion for American Truck Simulator.
To say that this year has been difficult is an understatement. A lot of us have been through really rough times. There is a glimpse of hope on the horizon now with news that the world may have a cure next year, but we need to be patient and keep ourselves and the ones dear to us as safe as possible now. We are proud that our games are a part of life for so many of our fans, and we will be happy to provide you with company again if need be in the coming weeks. Ours is a hobby that fits the limitations of Stay at Home very well - or rather Truck at Home in our case!
So, make yourself a cup of hot chocolate, coffee or tea put on some warm and cozy clothes, get yourself some good and tasty food, watch some classic movies, and let these stories pull you into fantasy worlds where everything is possible. Or grab a steering wheel, a game controller, or just your trusty keyboard and mouse, and play the games you love, including American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2.
Additionally, if you have missed our Christmas Special live-stream on Monday, you can watch the recording now, too. Maybe it can put a smile on your face as we reflect on the good stuff we managed to pull off in 2020, while also teasing and hinting at the future of our games in the years to come.

No matter how you are going to spend the holidays, have a wonderful time, and please stay safe.
Merry Christmas! ːwinter2019happyyulː
Christmas Wise Giving Event 2020
Last year we asked the community to spread the spirit of Christmas giving across all trucking territories in the Christmas Grand Giving event of 2019. The response was outstanding and we all did ourselves proud.
So, you may ask, what could top such a momentous effort? What is better than giving during Christmas time? The answer, this year, is not just giving, but giving wisely! In this way, we bring you the Christmas Wise Giving event of 2020 for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator!
We are not only asking you, our #BestCommunityEver, to match the Grand Giving reputation that you earned last year, but we are further challenging everyone to beat it by giving wisely, and we are going to help you do this!
We have fresh trailer loads of much-needed gifts to deliver. It is going to be your kind heart and wise decisions that deliver them to who needs them most. For carrying out this noble deed your actions will be noted twofold, in that we will award Hearts to each city, based on the number of deliveries it gives, and Gifts to each city based on the number of deliveries it receives. It will be the sum total of Hearts and Gifts that will be counted towards the community goal.
The more a city gives or receives, the more Hearts or Gifts that city gets, with a maximum of 5 Heart icons and 5 Gift icons per city.
You’ll be able to track the community progress on World of Trucks or directly in the game using the updated External Contracts interface:
We'll be jump-starting this great event with a special Christmas Wise Giving developer stream on the 17th of December, starting at 18:00 CET. It will be loads of fun, delivering jobs during the event, giving away steam keys, and we'll provide more information on our social media sharing campaign, in which those who'll share an image or video from their participation in the event, under the #XmasWiseGiving hashtag, will have a chance to win some cool gifts.
Wise Giving Event rules
Using External Contracts with a World of Trucks-connected profile in Euro Truck Simulator 2, American Truck Simulator or both, the goal is to get as many Hearts and Gifts as possible awarded to as many cities as possible across all trucking territories. Every city can achieve up to 5 Hearts and 5 Gifts!
For a city to gain 1 Heart the community must make 1000 deliveries from it, using the provided Gifts cargo.
For a city to gain 1 Gift the community must make 1000 deliveries to it, using the provided Gifts cargo.
Each tier of 350 Hearts/Gifts combined, will unlock a unique community reward.
For a Personal goal, complete at least 15 deliveries of Gifts cargo in either Euro Truck Simulator 2 or American Truck Simulator.
