Anglerfish

Our next game!

We can announce our next game!

Security: The Horrible Nights
Wishlist:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2911390/Security_The_Horrible_Nights/

We've taken it a step further with the feature that something changes when you die. "Every time you die, a new story begins."

You work as a security guard at a hospital where all sorts of mysterious and scary things can happen. Your job is to use the hospital's security cameras to monitor the area. When you see a problem, you have to run out and fix it. Most often, the problem can be solved by pointing your flashlight at it and shouting at the problem. Other times, you'll need to use more drastic methods to solve problems, or just survive.

We look forward to killing you again.

Audio deep dive

In this audio deep dive, Astrid Fabrin (the composer) talks about her work on Anglerfish.

Chinese + Bugs fixed

You can now play Anglerfish in Chinese thanks to Sun Lingfeng. While we made the new version with Chinese as an option, we also fixed a few bugs.

Thank you Sun Lingfeng! (If you want to say hello to Sun):

Nominated for game of the year!

Anglerfish has been nominated for: GAME OF THE YEAR, BEST VISUALS, BEST NARRATIVE and BEST GAME DESIGN at the game awards in Denmark. Which is the country the game takes place in, and was made in.

We are happy that a crazy game like Anglerfish, made from a beating gaming heart that just wanted to try to make a slightly different game, is getting such nice recognition.

Thanks again to all of you who have played Anglerfish or helped us make this game a reality!

One last half-big update

One last half-big update before we have to move on to the next game project.

You can reset your game

Under the game’s option, you can now reset the game at any point. Your fishy achievements will not be deleted.

Fixed bugs and small improvements

Some of you have been good at finding strange and weird bugs. The ones we could recreate have been fixed. We have also done a few small improvements. So new and old players should get a slightly better experience now. Thanks for the help.

New language

The game can now also be played in Danish, which is our mother tongue. Apart from the fact that it is fun to have your own game in your own language, it was also a requirement we had to fulfill from the art fund that has supported the project. Thanks again to the Danish Film Institute for helping make Anglerfish a reality.

Starting work on a new game

We have already started our next project. We are not yet ready to reveal what we are working on. But should you be curious, you can follow us on Discord and Twitter.

A big thanks!

We have tried to thank each of you personally who have helped make this project become real. If we have forgotten someone along the way, it is not intentional. We are only three people on the main team, so it is only through all your helping hands that Anglerfish has become what we hoped it could be.

Thank you.

Anglerfish - The Way of the Chicken

Anglerfish playthrough 3 is now out. It’s going to be a little bit crazy. We are excited to hear what you think about it. We are now through our roadmap. We will still look at some opportunities to make small improvements to the game.

As mentioned before. We are a small team, and Anglerfish is a complex game, so even though we test a lot, we may have missed something. If you come across a bug, write it in our bug report blog here on Steam and we will get it fixed as soon as possible.

It has been a wild journey. Thanks to those of you who have joined it. Who made their grandparents buy a copy of the game. Who shared the game or wrote a Steam review or a comment.

Are you ready for the true ending and much more?!

What is in the update?

Anglerfish part 2 is out now and it’s free. This update includes a new ending for playthrough 1, as well as a new playthrough mode that is a new take on the entire game. There are big new changes in playthrough 2, which also has its very own ending. It should be a very refreshing Anglerfish experience.

If you have already completed Anglerfish, the game will automatically start with the new ending for playthrough 1. The game will use some data from your first playthrough in your playthrough 2.

With this update, Anglerfish has become approx. twice as big as it was previously. We are a very small team and there are many parts of Anglerfish that can be very different depending on how you play. So even though we try to playtest a lot, we can have overlooked some bugs. If you find one, report it in the bug thread and we will look into it as soon as possible.

How you influenced all the new things in Anglerfish

We have been watching your videos and reading your reviews and comments. This has inspired us to do more things in this new update than originally planned. Therefore, you who have been involved from the beginning have influence Anglerfish a lot.

Steam reviews are the game's "guest book". Reading from several of you that you have had exactly the experience we hoped we could give you gives us a lot of energy to continue our work with Anglerfish. This is a passion project, so every single review where someone who enjoyed our game talks about their experience, or just that you have enjoyed the game is nice for us to read. You are one of the big reasons we are making this strange game.

Thanks to all of you who have shared the game with others. It is appreciated.

The future of Anglerfish

We are already well underway with a bonus part 3 that will include a new playthrough mode with two new endings. The plan is to have this finished by January 19, 2023. Those who complete playthroughs 1 & 2 before the new update will get a little extra surprise!

We look forward to hearing about your experiences with this new major update.

Soundtrack & more news!

Soundtrack & more news!

Anglerfish’s soundtrack is now out on Steam and all profit will go to Anglerfish’s composer, Astrid Fabrin. At the bottom you can hear a song from the soundtrack, which is a song that will be included in the update of Anglerfish on December 15th. In addition, there is an extra song in English that is from A. Fabrin's album, Before Return. (Have you found the poster for this album in the game?) You can listen to more of A. Fabrin's music on Spotify:

In other Anglerfish news. The game has been updated to fix some minor issues, but more interestingly a few new surprises have been added. You will be able to experience them in your first or second playthrough of Anglerfish. We have read your reviews and watched your videos and it is from those that these little new things have been created. There have also been added several extra things for the December 15th update due to the inspiration we have gotten from you.

The Tower (Tårnet) – Part of the soundtrack and the game.

Rearrange the flowers from the album, Before Return.

You did it. The door is open.

This time, you surprised us, because you did it under a week! Anglerfish is a bit of a strange game that we simply made because we were very curios about how a game like this would play. We had no idea if anyone would enjoy Anglerfish, so it has been great reading your steam reviews, seeing your screenshots, watching your videos, and learning that quite a few of you got the experience we set out to create and enjoyed it. You inspire us and we have already added a little extra to playthrough 2, which was not originally planned, because of you.

To those of you who have already beaten the game. The door will also be open in playthrough 2, and this playthrough will be a significantly different experience than playthrough 1. We have a reason why you cannot reset your save right now in the game, which we cannot fully reveal. The game will use some of your data from playthrough 1 in playthrough 2. Whether what we are trying to do is a good or bad idea is a good question. But the point of Anglerfish is precisely to try the things you normally don't do when you’re making a game because you’re not sure if it is "a good or bad idea". We hope you can bear the wait. (We didn't expect the 100 reviews to be written so quickly.)

We are a three-person team. But as you can see in the credits, a lot of people have helped in some way or another which has made this project possible. We value these people very much. Just as we appreciate all of you who support the game by spreading the word, because without you the game would disappear down Steam's bottomless pit of forgotten games.

There is still some way to go before the Anglerfish experience is finished, so we continue to work on creating a slightly different game. And if you manage to convince your grandma to buy the game, there's even a chance we'll hit the 5.000 goal so we can afford to make the free DLC for you.

To end this update, we have a bad picture of Maria (the graphic artist) and Astrid (the composer) on location in Anglerfish. It’s Kalø Slotsruin. It’s the castle ruins you can see in the background when you are driving to the Anglerfish bar.

The release date is not the end station for Anglerfish.

The release date is not the end station for Anglerfish. Over the next 10 weeks we will release a second and third playthrough mode. Each of these new playthrough modes will be a new take on the game. They will be significantly different experiences than your first playthrough of the game and each other. They will both be free updates.

Those of you who beat Anglerfish before playthrough 2 mode comes out will be reward with a little surprise. If you beat playthrough 2 mode before playthrough 3 mode comes out then another little surprise awaits you.

We would also love to make a free DLC where you play as the blonde vampire you find in the game. But for that to be possible, we need to sell more than 5000 copies of Anglerfish before the 19th of January 2023. If you want to help make this DLC become a reality, then buy your copy of Anglerfish now, spread the word about the game and write a Steam review. It all helps and we appreciate it.

We would like to thank all of you who have already helped in one way or another to create Anglerfish. We will have half a glass of champagne and otherwise continue our work with Anglerfish.

Sincerely.
- John & Maria
