Annie and the Art Gallery 1.3 (Part 2)

Hi everyone! Update 1.3 Part 2 is coming out today! This update focuses a lot more on the gameplay, improving some of the puzzles and reducing frustration.

  • A few of the puzzle solutions now pulse with light if you haven't solved them. This is the main thing with this update and should reduce frustration in areas where it isn't clear what you're supposed to do.
  • The light puzzle has been made less "annoying". Your light stays on for longer and illuminates more.
  • The audio puzzle is now back to Pre-1.3 difficulty in HARD MODE.
  • Replaced most of the textures in the Origami Exhibit as they were mostly defaults. There are now VERY few default textures left in the game.
  • Actually removed the political jokes this time...
  • More dialogue changes and improvements.
  • De-cluttered the Gallery area during the first playthrough.
  • Added another inspiration drawing, bringing the total to 11. I think you can figure out what this one is referencing!
  • Redrawn Annie during one of the earlier FMV drawings.

Along with this update, the Spanish versions of the game are getting their own 1.3 Update. Patch notes:

  • Fixed lots of typos, word choice and spelling. Thanks Camillo!
  • Implemented most of the gameplay changes from Update 1.3, as well as some of the texture changes.
  • All new art from both 1.3 updates.

Thanks for playing!

Week 1 Update

For our first round of patches, we're focusing on three major things:

--- New Features!

  • Added a fullscreen toggle. (To be clear: We don't recommend playing this game fullscreen, as it will make the game look blurry and make cause performance issues)

--- Fixing Bugs

  • Fixed a softlock in the light puzzle if you save at certain locations.
  • Reduced volume of the music in 3rd area.
  • Fixed being able to move during the final cutscene.
  • Fixed one broken hole during the 2nd area.
  • Fixed a certain NPC in the gallery not giving you the correct dialogue in certain situations.
  • Fixed a few issues with pathing during chase sequences.
  • Fixed a weird bug where the screen can become tinted if you exit the mirror room.
  • Lots of other little things.

--- Improving Clarity

  • Made most 1-wide hallways at least 2-wide. This should improve navigation.
  • In 3rd area, made the audio puzzle hallways wider. This should make that puzzle less frustrating.
  • Made it more clear what you're supposed to do during some puzzles.

Releasing now! (And Future Plans)

Hey everyone! Now that Annie and the Art Gallery is out, I just wanted to answer some common questions people might have about the game.

--- What is the game about?

Annie and the Art Gallery is a love letter to classic RPGMaker horror games such as Witch's House and Ib. This game is modeled after elements from lots of different games, so expect to see chase sequences, sudden deaths, short but fun puzzles, and more!

--- How long is the game?

The game is about 1.5-2 hours going at a reasonable pace, with more content unlocked after your first playthrough! There's also a harder difficulty option unlocked after the first playthrough.

--- What inspired Annie and the Art Gallery?

What didn't inspire this game? The gameplay was modeled after a combination of classic RPGMaker horror hits (Witch's House, Ib) and some more modern top-down horror games (Project Kat, Omori, Oneshot). The story, however, has so many inspirations that it would be impossible to list all of them here. I might make a separate post in the future describing everything that influenced this game.

--- What is on your to-do list for post-release?

Ideally, we'd like to get Mac support working. RPGMaker MV is somewhat broken on Mac because of how Apple treats 3rd party developers (very badly!), however, there is a solution that we're working on behind the scenes. We can't make any guarantees about this, but it's something we're working on!

Also, depending on how the game does financially, localization is on our minds. We would like to get a Japanese localization first, followed by whatever we can reasonably do.

--- I like the music! Where can I find it?

Annie and the Art Gallery's OST can be found on:
Youtube
Spotify
Apple Music
Amazon
Hopefully, we will be releasing on Soundcloud and Bandcamp soon!

--- Where can I go to share my experiences playing the game?

You can always check out our discord server! We set up a special channel for spoiler stuff that will be open for a week after launch.

--- What's next?

Hopefully, we can keep making more games! We have a few ideas in mind, but they are all larger in scope than Annie and the Art Gallery. Stay tuned for more updates about this!

Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you guys enjoy Annie and the Art Gallery!
