Major Update: Epilogue, DPad Support, Volume Control, Bug Fixes!
Hi everyone! Here's an overview of the latest major update;
EPILOGUE
By popular request, I've added an epilogue to the end of Ara Fell as a free update. This brief addition will hopefully make for a much more satisfying ending, and give closure to those who felt the original ending was lacking in that area.
There are two ways you can access it.
1) You can defeat the final boss, view the original ending, and then stick around for the epilogue. A save game right before the fight with story mode enabled is provided below. If you're coming back just to view the epilogue, I recommend viewing the original ending again along with it!
Just drop this into your Ara Fell Folder and rename it to Save0X.lsd, where X is a number. This is the default path, but yours may vary. C:\Program Files\Steam (x86)\SteamApps\Common\Ara Fell
2) or you can jump right into the epilogue by pressing the ESC or gamepad B key several times (about 5 or 6) on the title menu. This will bring up an option asking if you'd like to view the epilogue.
NOTE: If you're deciding to give this another playthrough, be advised that the transition from the end of the game to starting a new game hasn't been fully tested yet... the code is without error and should work, but the engine is finnicky sometimes, and I'm worried it might skip over parts of it...
D-PAD SUPPORT / VOLUME CONTROL
D-pad support should now be enabled for most gamepads. You may need to make sure the gamepad is powered on prior to starting the game in order for it to work.
For volume control, you can adjust this by selecting "Settings" on the title screen, by using the "UTILITY: Options" item in your inventory or by pressing the F5 key on your keyboard. This will bring up the usual video options, with a new button on the right to adjust volume.
BUG FIXES / BALANCE CHANGES / COLORBLIND MODE
A variety of small tweaks and fixes have been applied to the game; too many to list here, but nothing major. Thanks to everyone who took the time to point out some of these issues!
We've also included a colorblind mode in this update, which addresses a few issues colorblind people may run into, including updated an keyboard guide which can be accessed via the UTILITIES: Information item, as well as altering the color puzzle in the Ruins of Arei.
FALSE POSITIVES FOR ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE
It seems RPG_RT.exe may bring up false positives for some overzealous anti-virus software. We've tested this thoroughly and are confident that there are no issues, but as always, we can't be 100% sure... Please let us know if you get any anti-virus hits and we'll continue looking into this. Thanks!
Lastly, please leave a review if you're so inclined! I've said this many times before, but it's worth repeating... we worked really hard on this game, but it's often difficult to get taken seriously on a big market like Steam. Every review makes us seem more legitimate, and even brief reviews are helpful! And besides that, we love reading them.
Okay, thanks everyone! As always, let us know if you run into any issues. Have fun!
More fixes!
Hey guys! Just some more bug-fixes here, as well as several small improvements and spelling errors corrected. Big shout-out to the folks in the community bug thread for helping us gather these issues!
Fortunately, nothing particularly game-breaking was discovered except for a few issues where you could get stuck. Let us know if you find any other issues, please!
Ara Fell - Two Months Later!
Hey everyone!
It's been two months since we released Ara Fell. The whole process has gone a lot better than we expected, and I'd just like to thank everyone who helped make this possible. We're currently sitting at 93% positive reviews, some of which are absolutely glowing. This is flattering to say the least and I can't tell you how much it means to us that what we've made is loved by so many.
As with every game release, Ara Fell was launched with some bugs and balancing issues that our playerbase has helped us to iron out. I'm not going to detail the dozens of fixes here, but as far as I can tell, every bug that can be fixed has been fixed. Most of them were small and easy to tweak, but there were a few pretty major issues that we and our testers missed during beta testing.
At any rate, we've spent the last 2 months looking into every single issue that has been brought to our attention, and the result is a far cleaner, more polished and more enjoyable game.
It's probably not yet perfect, though, so please continue to tell us if you find anything we should fix! And please also leave us a review after you've had a chance to play it!
Controller Support Enabled, Disappearing Items, and Other Bug Fixes
Hey folks!
We've been listening to feedback and have fixed a ton of little bugs. I didn't keep track of most of them. The two big things for this update is controller support and fixing items disappearing from players' inventories.
For the latter, we've found what we believe is the problem. The code removes items not needed for combat temporarily and re-adds them after each fight. However, if you enter combat again too quickly after exiting it, the code is interrupted. We've put a fix in place that should keep that from happening again. If it does, post it in our bug list on the discussion boards.
For the former, we now have controller support! You can now use the Action Key (Enter or Space Bar) to jump at designated places (rather than the 1 key, and being able to uselessly jump anywhere). Shift will allow you to crawl instead of the 3 key.
This is a relic from when I made the first version of this game about 10 years ago. Back then, most people didn't have gamepads for their PCs, so it wasn't a huge concern. Furthermore, I really wanted you to be able to jump at any time to get a sense of freedom. That's what I wanted at the time. When I revisited the game to fix it up, there were a lot of things I didn't change because I didn't realize how much of a problem they were. This, fortunately, I realized was a problem. Thanks to everyone that mentioned it for convincing me this needed to be changed.
Hope you're all having fun! We're still around to support this game, so if you find issues, let me know!
Ara Fell is released!
This has been a wild ride. From starting the project, to getting Greenlit a few months ago, through the beta test, to finally releasing our first project. We've really poured our hearts and souls into this game. We hope you love playing it as much as we loved making it.
