In today's update we have some fun additions and fixes, as well as a brand new play option that will help casual fans enjoy more of the game. So let's get to it!
This is the big one: We've added a "Casual Aim Mode" option to the options menu. If you enable this there will no longer be any shot timer. We heard from a handful of our players that they would like an option with less pressure and more time to aim. We've always wanted Arcane Golf to appeal to a wide range of player skill levels, so we hope this helps. This may make some levels too easy, but overall it should provide a much more relaxing experience for those of you that want it.
There is new text on levels 3 and 5 of the Dank Dungeon that will tell new players about this option if they miss it.
New "Ball Color" option in the options menu. It just wouldn't be mini golf without the ability to choose what color your ball was. Of course it also wouldn't be mini golf if nobody got upset that they didn't get their favorite color. We consider this a feature ;) More colors may be added in the future.
Also, as promised we've added the ability to rebind a "quick restart" key. In our last update we added the option for players to quickly restart a level by pressing the "R" key. Now you can set it to whatever key you want!
Lastly, we made a small fix to the tutorial system. Quick restarting a level, then exiting and replaying that level could cause the text to get jumbled. This should no longer happen, but let us know!
That concludes our latest quality of life update. As always, we want to hear how we can improve your experience with our game, so be sure to follow us on twitter (the best place to connect with us) @Gold5Games
Quality of Life Update #002
It's time for another small update. We've continued to get some great feedback from our growing community of players and we wanted to get in some quick changes based on that to help foster the best possible experience.
First up, we added a quck restart key. Players can now press "R" to quickly restart a level instead of clicking any buttons. In the next update this will be noted in the options menu, and will be rebindable to any key you would like.
Level 47 of the Dank Dungeon has been adjusted to be a bit easier. It's one of our favorite levels, but based on feedback, we realize it may have been too difficult that early in the game.
The "Stretch to fit" resolution option has been adjusted. It was cutting off elements of the game area on certain resolutions, but will now attempt to make the biggest possible playing area without cutting any elements off.
As noted in the options menu, this can result in distortion, so if you want pixel perfect visuals, please choose one of the 1x, 2x, or 3x options from the drop down menu.
Finally, we added a small line of text to the first tutorial explaining that players can click anywhere to shoot. It was unclear to some players that they did not have to click on the ball to shoot, and we want to make that as clear as possible. Avoid the edges of the screen for the best results.
Quality of Life Update #001
It's time for our first quality of life update!
We've appreciated all the kind words and messages we have received through Steam, Twitter, Facebook, email, and elsewhere. We've taken some of that feedback and fixed a few things to improve your gameplay experiences!
Slime traps were not quick restarting the level like other hazards. We have changed this to help smooth things out and make restarting a level easier.
Pressing Esc. when the pause menu is open will now save any updated sound/music options. Previously you had to click one of the options menu buttons to resume, restart or quit the level for a save to happen.
When in windowed mode, the window will no longer re-position to the center of your screen after every restart or new level. The window will still do this in the options menu to make adjusting resolution easier.
On rare occasions the game was allowing players to skip levels they had not completed. This would break the "play next" button that would show up at the end of the level, forcing players back to the level select screen to choose the next level. This could be fixed by making sure to go back and complete any unfinished levels. We've put in some protections to hopefully prevent this from happening to anyone else, but it has been a hard bug to replicate. Let us know if this continues to happen.
