Arcane Waters: The Perks of Piracy

It’s time to set sail on another Playtest! During our last playtest we showed off the quest log and new questing features. We’re still working on your feedback from that and the player survey, but wanted you to check out something new we’ve been cooking up.

One of the most common bits of feedback we’ve seen is regarding perks. During this playtest you can test out the initial stage of our perk system. We were inspired by constellations in the night sky which pirates would use to navigate their ships. Please let us know what you think and what direction you’d like us to navigate towards.

The next preview window for Arcane Waters will open around noon EST on August 22nd and run through August 28th. Set sail with us and take our new changes out for a spin.



New Features & Content


There's a new perk system! Look to the skies and fill the constellations that suit your playstyle! View your perks by hitting the perks button on your inventory panel. This is still a work in progress and many more perks are coming soon!

We also have a new tutorial/introduction in the works as an ongoing effort to help new players understand the game. Previously existing characters will be prompted to try it upon login.

The team has started working on some localization for different languages. You can test the currently implemented languages in the ESC/options panel. During this phase, the translations are made automatically. We know this isn’t always ideal and will be looking for help from our community to fine tune them so they’re more accurate translations. More information on translations will be coming soon, along with additional languages.

PVP has been rebalanced somewhat to address some power run-away. Be sure to hop in a PVP match and give it a shot!

If you set sail into the open seas, be sure to keep an eye out for new locations to visit!


Explorin'

  • New Point of Interest to find in the forest region!
  • Hazel's hint reworded.
  • Fixed invisible walls in some odd places.
  • Victoria now asks for slime.
  • Snuffy hints towards his flask.
  • Snuffy's starter rum weapon is easier to get and has been renamed.



Farmin'

  • Fixed issues with crops displaying incorrectly.
  • Victoria's Pitchfork can now harvest crops.
  • Quest for Victoria's Pitchfork now has a farming level requirement.
  • Fix saplings' chance to appear at shops.
  • Harvesting, planting, and watering all share a collider. Size can be adjusted by perks.
  • Fixed issue where some crops wouldn’t be highlighted with arrows when in range.



Fightin'

  • PVP ship health rebalance.
  • PVP shop adjustments.
  • Fixed problems interacting with shop.
  • Start panel moved so players can chat pre-game.
  • Fixed issue where you couldn't leave PVP battles.
  • Poison Cannonball now has a cooldown.

The Arcane Waters demo sailed into Steam's Next-Fest in June. Thanks to a huge influx of players and your feedback, we were able to identify a long list of ways to improve the game, including some new features.

The next preview window for Arcane Waters will open on July 28th and run through August 7th. Sail along with us and enjoy all the changes we have in store.

Quest Phase 1
Our quest system is getting some love!

  • Players can now track their active and complete quests with the new quest log seen in the picture above!
  • Easily check your active quests, progress, and know where they need to be turned in!

We've added new areas to explore, the ability to create outposts with your guild, a new help panel, a new event panel so you can see what's going on, and patched up some bugs!

Guilds:



  • Outposts can now be deployed and guild members can contribute materials to complete the building.

Combat:



  • Enemy spawning is now updated to prevent ships from spawning too close to players in world maps
  • Balanced voyage difficulty scaling of enemy ships, ship health now scales depending on number of voyage members
  • Fixed bug where ability buttons and keys become unresponsive after fighting a while in land combat
  • Fixed bug where engaging with a pirate skeleton boss shows an enemy with shield inside combat
  • Fixed bug where pirate captain joins the minions combat even after it was defeated
  • Updated burning and poison damage to proc only if the target health is greater than 0, allowing users to land a finishing blow
  • Updated ability casting conditions when spamming buttons and triggering abilities while others are cooling down
  • Fixed bug where user fails to join a combat that they are already engaged in after disconnecting or logging out
  • Fixed bug causing duplicate player battlers when spamming pvp invites

Optimizations:



  • Optimized area creation for maps to have prebaked collisions, for performance improvements
  • Improved other functionalities related to generating areas for performance improvements

Ships:



  • Added food cost for dashing
  • Ship HP bonus perk now only applies to max HP when spawned in a world map area
  • Ship storage and perk bonuses are now applied at the world spawn instead of storing in the database
  • Added a cap to the amount of bot ships we will allow to be spawned in pvp matches.
  • Bot ships and Sea Structures now aim slightly past their target, to help with some cases where they would often miss targets.
  • Increased wave spawn interval in pvp games, so there is an interval where no ships are at the enemy tower.
  • Fixed issue where bot ship cannonballs sometimes wouldn't damage enemy bot ships in pvp games.
  • Bot Ships and Sea Structures now aim at the targets center more accurately.


Bugfixes:



  • Fixed bug where crops are spawned in non house areas
  • Fixed bug where users are spawned in same area but does not see other users due to duplicated instances generated
  • Fixed bug where tutorial area is being duplicated needlessly
  • Improved redirection of users between servers
  • Fixed an issue where demo restrictions could cause players to be unable to progress to the next voyage map.
  • Fixed issue where small sands banner would show when the waterfall secret entrance was opened.
  • Fixed issue when warping to private maps
  • Moved go home to list of buttons to be shown when user has character
  • Fixed issue where player chop collider could block webs from finding a clear landing destination.
