Archons of Doom

Random items on maps.

New items are placed onto most items on each play through, increasing replayability and helping to ensure that every playthrough really is different than the last. These items can even be chests!

Easier to find Dragon Eggs

A small update to put Dragon Eggs inside all kinds of chests in the game. This should make summoning the Green Dragon a bit easier and provide some more food for the Skelegators.

Scenario improvements and a few bug fixes.

  • The Lady of Law has her ranged attack strengthened so she feels more satisfying to use.
  • The Sandstone map has been improved to add some more 'easy footing' and phoenix feathers, making getting around it quicker. The hidden building with one way in now has a back way, too.
  • You can now fire through small piles of rocks and rock gems because it was confusing that they blocked this.
  • The player's Mana Crystals are shown in gray when less than seven, instead of white.
  • Some more bug fixes around Sandworms swallowing creatures.

New music and a slew of fixes for all.

  • Two brand new music tracks added to the game!
  • Highscore names restricted to the first 16 characters to prevent word wrapping occuring.
  • The Illusion icon on the stat pane is not animated, helping to draw attention to it.
  • Spell count text colouring is now a dimmer gray if the spell is not eligible to be cast.
  • Numerous sounds have been reduced in volume to make the soundscape a little bit more pleasant to be in.
  • Shuriken damage has been increased to make these weapons a little bit more dangerous.
  • Numerous bug fixes around Sandworms swallowing creatures.
  • When a virus is unable to copy a creature the game will state the creature was immune.
  • Ants no longer bite flying creatures.

Why conquer the universe only once?...

Conquer the universe multiple times!
====================================
Why stop at one ending? Once the main campaign is completed, it can now be restarted in order to choose alternative endings and earn all of the achievements. Prior to this update this wasn't actually possible.

See your progress through the conquest clearly
==============================================
On the main menu, there is now a progress bar right beneath the realm title when the player is working through the main campaign. This is to help the player know how far through the campaign they actually are. It may be especially useful in the very early stages, where the player does not know how many spells they will accumulate before fighting against other Archons, or how deep the game is yet.

The unlocked items list now has also has a progress bar to show how far through all of this that the player currently is. Can you unlock all of the content?

Navigate to the good stuff
==========================
Who wants to use Balthus forever, or a randomly generated Archon every time? There is now an option to jump straight to the Archon designer from the main campaign ending screens, complete with a tooltip explaining that designed Archons can fight in additional realms.

Bug fixing
==========
Next realm button no longer appears on the game endings when skipping back from the random Archon skirmish screen (bugfix).

Update notes for 18/12/2021

The main menu presents text in a more animated way and the highscore chart underlines your name when you are on it.

The early Balthus story dialogs appear a few turns into the game now and not immediately on starting the game. This is to give the player a chance to start doing things before there is something additional to read.

On defeat, the end game music could sometimes play over the in-game music (bugfix).

The Resurrect spell, which is tied to the Sandstone realm, should not show up on the Archon designer as though it is a spell that can be unlocked (bugfix).

Internally, the creature slots are not reused unless by a Blob or Virus Eyestalks. This helps fix the legacy display which can end up showing the wrong creatures were defeated. It might also fix some hard to replicate but rare bugs around the non-appearance of creatures in the late game (will continue to monitor).
