Dev Blog: The Goats from the Village
The goat is the main animal of the backlands. On Trip to backlands / Make of Firmina’s goats, we talked about Firmina’s ones. Now, throughout this text we will talk about the village goats, which are not assigned to a quest, enriching the ambiance of the game and call attention when seen, always roaming the world. 😄
During the process of creating the Village level, we had the feeling that there was some aesthetic gap in that space. Somehow, it was necessary to think about elements (sound, visual or even compositional), which could give a balance between keeping the narrative proposal of the place aligned, while still giving more life and ambience to the level.
The presence of goats circulating around the village grew in this process. We started to use more of their movements, positions, and characteristics, exploring the possibilities of artificial intelligence in a slightly more autonomous way, also allowing a comical side of these formidable animals (which we could verify in some goats we found during our research trip to the backlands).
It is quite possible that when the player is exploring the village, suddenly: "Oops!", a goat appears performing its daily activities. And in this moment of unpredictability, our goats resemble the real backlands goats. 🐐
And that is why we love them, as well as many people who play Árida.

Arida have been selected as a finalist in SBGames Festival 2019
Here we are very proud to announce that Arida has been selected as a finalist in 4 categories at the SBGames Festival 2019! 😍😍
The categories are: "Best Game", "Best Design", "Best Storytelling" and "Best Sound". SBGames is one of the most consolidated events in Latin America, scheduled for 28-31 October, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

🍰 During this first month of Arida’s launch, we need to thank all of you who embarked on this journey with us, helping the project take a bigger and bigger projection. We received very nice support, from the earliest materials to the last tests before the Steam release!
As we have already mentioned, Arida is Aoca's first game and the first commercial game from all of us. We're learning in this process, with your help and your feedback. We always make everything with love and respect for you, because you are the reasons for Arida to exist! 😁

Patch 1.0.2 - Hotfix
Hello, survivors
We are releasing this update to address some issues you have encountered, one of which involves the achievements that were not working correctly. Check it out all the changes below.
- Achievements -
We corrected many issues related to the achievements, now they are properly registered on Steam. Your feedbacks have helped us a lot to solve this problem, thank you.
- Trap -
Now the trap works properly. Just place it on the ground and wait a couple of minutes to catch something. But you won't get the vegan achievement if you eat any meat.
- Bonfire -
Now the bonfire has a limited duration, as we intended. It will last for about 1 minute. You aways can build another one if you have the materials.
- Tooltip -
The tooltip panel is responsible for introducing game features, like new recipes. Now it's displayed properly on every resolution.
- Colectalbes -
There was one chest more than the intended, oops!
- Spoilers -
We’ve fixed an issue in the end game involving the banners.
Secret Bench: In our last update, we fixed the interaction with this object. In this patch, we made more improvements. It is worth checking.

Hey everyone. We present to you our first patch after the game launch!
The update contains some improvements that will upgrade the gameplay experience, especially in the mountain area, that seemed to be a major obstacle for you. Also, we made some balance changes and minor changes.
Let's go!
Game Balance
We increased the game difficulty, now you have to collect more food to stay healthy and you will get hungry and thirsty more often. It was too easy, right?
<*>Reduced the benefits of many aliments (Eggs, Mandacaru, etc).
<*>Increced the speed of reduction of the stats
<*>Now the Death Valley is aridity level 3 (from 4).
Environment
We added more interaction objects, we hope you explore a lot. During your gameplay, some have complained about “invisible walls,” so we worked on the game's collisions responsible for these limits.
<*>(Collider) Village area- Broken Bracket.
<*>(Collider) Death Valley area - Dead Cow.
<*>(Collider) Death Valley area - Invisible stones.
<*>(Collider) Death Valley area - Fence Near the Cashew Tree.
<*>(Collider) Farm Region - Bullock Cart.
<*>(Terrain) Objects “buried” in certain parts of the map.
<*>(Terrain) Objects “floating” in certain parts of the map.
<*>(Terrain) Hole in the ground of the secret area.
<*>(Terrain) Firmina's house area- Hole in the ground (Blue line).
<*>(Terrain) Mountain area - Bannera.
<*>(Terrain) Farm area - Woods floating in the corral.
<*>(Models) Tiao doesn't disappear with distance anymore.
<*>(Models) Mandacaru and other collectible foods disappear after being cut.
<*>(Models) Trap's visual effect has been fixed.
Narrative
Dialogues play an important role within the game and we saw that you love playing the "voices" of each character. We reviewed some texts that were displayed wrong.
<*>(Objects) - Fixed the dialog on some objects.
<*>(Interface) - Now the credits are displayed also in English
<*>(Interface) - Texts some texts appearing in the wrong place
Bugs and improvements
In the previous version, we saw several players encountering problems that discouraged you on your adventures. The bench at the end of the mountain was a major one, also the inventory that got stuck sometimes, not allowing the game to continue. We apologize for all the problems that have happened.
<*>Revised disappearance time of collected objects.
<*>Fixed the bug of the equipments stuck in Cicera's hand, after interaction with an object.
<*>(Items) - Fixed a Confusing Notification
<*>(Feature) - All bench now work properly
<*>(Feature) - Fixed the Inventory freezing when closed
<*>(Feature) - Now the achievements don't disappear after game restart
<*>(Feature) - Achievements are now accounted properly for by Steam
Audio
In the audio sector, some changes have arrived, one of them being the addition of a component responsible for the individual configuration of each object within the game.
<*>(Feature) - Created audio tuning component
<*>(Effect) - Individual audio adjustment of in-game objects
<*>(Effect) - Fixed mountain ambient sound
<*>(Effect) - Improved the ambient Sound of the Village
<*>(Music) - Revised the audio from the last cutscene
<*>(Extra) - Fixed the extra content audio after the end

July update - Launch date!
Heey!! We can finally make the announcement! Are you ready?
We going to release the game in . . . . . 15TH AUGUST OF THIS YEAR! YES! ITS LESS THAN A MONTH!
We are so proud to announce the release date to you, people who have been following our journey for so long! So, please, if you didn’t enrolment our game on your stem’s wishlist, do it, don’t leave it for later! This help us A LOT to get a higher spotlight during this pre-launch phase.

Since we’ve already spoiled the date, here is some of the updates from these late weeks of working on Árida!
We improved some animations, game performance, and some dialogs. Cícera’s animation gained new details, giving her a smooth and fluid movement, accordingly with her personality. 🙂
The game got new interactions sounds for some objects and actions. For example, the act of chop a mandacaru - “Ha!” The goal is to make the game more immersive, improving the experience in the Árida’s universe.
We add new models and upgrade some old ones that didn’t match the visual quality level. The game scenario also got some adjustments, now with better progression flow. 😉
This is it! We are super anxious for launching our first game and we want you to be part of this too. If you like our game/work, your help is indispensable at this moment. 🙂
