In Development: Object 292

Commanders!

Today, we’d like to officially unveil the second of the upcoming progression vehicles, the Soviet Object 292 MBT!

As usual, let’s have a bit of history first. Object 292 was a late Soviet era “supertank” that was intended to fight the next generation of NATO MBTs. It was designed as an improved variant of the T-80 series MBT by the Kirov Plant in Leningrad (St. Petersburg).

You might be familiar with an overhauled T-80BV MBT with the 152mm 2A73 gun but that was not the “true” Object 292 – much like the Black Eagle “prototype”, it was just a testbed (in this case for the gun). It was developed in 1990 to see whether the 152mm gun could fit into the T-80B turret. It could (with some adjustments) and the vehicle underwent extensive trials in 1991 in Rzhev.

The tests have confirmed that the gun represented a major improvement of firepower compared to the standard 125mm 2A46 smoothbore series, including a 50 percent increase of muzzle energy. At the same time, due to its advanced construction, the gun had roughly the same recoil as the 2A46, allowing it to be installed into existing Soviet tanks. The chassis of the vehicle was stable and the vehicle performed well. At the same time, another welded turret was developed and it was this new variant that was to be used on the T-80U chassis and it is this combination we’re introducing.

This Object 292 variant (also known as “T-80U tank with LP-83 gun” or sometimes “T-80M”) isn’t super-well documented but it did exist in the form of drawing and several models. In this configuration, the tank weighed roughly 46 tons and had a crew of three men.

The tank was well-armored, the protection levels of the turret were analogical to the T-80U MBT with the ERA kit being upgradeable from the usual Kontakt-5 to Malakhit (a precursor to the current Relikt system). The tank was to be fitted with two active protection systems:
  • Shtora-1M soft-kill APS (connected to new 3D17 Purga-2 or 3D17M Purga-2M smoke grenades instead of the usual 902B Tucha system)
  • Drozd-2 hard-kill APS

The status of the tank was monitored by a new control system called Barsuk-2.

The armament consisted mainly of the abovementioned 152mm 2A73 cannon (factory designation LP-83). The gun would be automatically loaded from a large carousel beneath the turret and a bustle-mounted charge storage (with blow-out panels). The vehicle carried 30 two-piece rounds, 16 of which were ready in the autoloader magazine. The gun fired the following shells:
  • Grifel-1 APFSDS with Tungsten core
  • Grifel-2 APFSDS with Depleted Uranium core
  • Grifel-3 HE-FRAG
  • Zaraysk APFSDS (the name also belongs to the research project of the LP-83 gun, performance unknown)
  • Sprinter ATGM with a tandem HEAT warhead

The weapon was controlled by the 1A45M FCS featuring the DVE-BS wind sensor, 1G46M optics and either the older Buran-M night sights or the Agava-2T thermal imager. The commander had T01-K04 Agat-M optics at his disposal.

The tank was powered by the GTD-1250 1250hp gas turbine engine (or even the then-developed 1500hp GTD-1500G engine), allowing it to go as fast as 70 km/h.

In short, it was to be a beast. However, with the breakup of the Soviet Union and the major budget cuts that followed, the vehicle was never really developed into a production variant. Its prototype had stayed abandoned for years until it was moved to the Kubinka tank museum and restored.

In Armored Warfare, the Object 292 will be a Marat Shishkin Tier 10 Main Battle Tank.

We had several options as to what to put on Tier 10 of the branch but this vehicle seemed like the most natural choice, especially when we decided not to just go with a T-80B with a different gun but an entirely new turret. We also debated the name but in the end, we felt that Object 292 is the best-known option.

Gameplay-wise, we’re once again looking at a rather conventional vehicle with the gameplay similar to that of the Tier 7 T-80U MBT. The vehicle will be relatively difficult to destroy due to its compact size, fast, and hard-hitting, although the protection levels will perhaps not be the best of its Tier. After all, it’s a three-decades-old piece of technology. It’ll be best suited for players who like a lot of mobility and firepower without sacrificing too much protection.

We hope you’ll enjoy it and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!

Offer: Main Battle Tanks

Commanders!

Today we’ve prepared the following items for you:
  • Type 99A2-140 Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank
  • Object 640 Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank
  • Type 96B Tier 8 Premium Main Battle Tank
  • T-72B3 Tier 8 Premium Main Battle Tank
  • M1A1 Storm Tier 7 Premium Main Battle Tank
  • MBT-70 Tier 6 Premium Main Battle Tank
  • Camouflage Loot Crate with Spirithaven Raid skins
  • Battle Coins

Between June 8 and June 15, 2023, the following items will be available:

Type 99A2-140

The Type 99A2-140 is an experimental version of the most advanced Chinese Main Battle Tank in existence – the Type 99A. Unlike its production counterpart, however, it is not armed with a 125mm smoothbore, but massive 140mm smoothbore cannon. This is a theoretical upgrade to the vehicle – while the People’s Republic of China was considering upgrading the firepower of its Main Battle Tanks to face latest western and Russian MBT models, a 140mm gun was never installed on this chassis and was only mentioned in passing by certain Chinese sources. Now, however, your enemies will have the opportunity to experience what such a vehicle with you in command would be like to face in battle!

In Armored Warfare, the Type 99A2-140 is a rather unique Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. It is essentially a version of the progression Type 99A2 Tier 10 MBT with one difference – the 140mm gun, trading its rate of fire for penetration and single shell damage. It is very fast and mobile (with its maximum speed being well over 90 km/h), protected by ERA and APS both and capable of using an acceleration-boosting active ability that pushes its engine far beyond the limits of common Main Battle Tanks. If used right, the vehicle is extremely deadly and one of the best Tier 10 MBTs on the battlefields of Armored Warfare.

The Type 99A2-140 MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.

Object 640

The Object 640 is one of the last Soviet era “super tank” monsters, designed to surpass anything the west could field on the battlefield. It featured extremely advanced armor, making it highly resistant to hits while keeping its weight low. The design was truly revolutionary for the late 1980s, but, like with many other Soviet projects of the era, it was discontinued due to the lack of funding. You can learn more about it in a dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Object 640 “Black Eagle” is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. It is a fast, agile and well-protected vehicle that plays in a typical Russian-style MBT fashion – ideal for players who want to take things up close and personal. This version of the tank does not feature any camouflage and is ready to be customized as you see fit.

The Object 640 Tier 10 Premium MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.

Type 96B

The Type 96B MBT, as its name suggests, is an evolution of the Type 96A, featuring such elements as an upgraded fire control system and a much more powerful engine, resulting in considerably better mobility and speed. Unlike the Type 96A, however, the Type 96B is a prototype, designed for the Chinese military team to use during the annual Tank Biathlon event in Russia. In 2017, the Chinese team won the second place, being defeated only by Russia. You can learn more about its history in our dedicated article!

In Armored Warfare, the Type 96B is a Tier 8 Premium Main Battle Tank. Gameplay-wise, it’s very agile and fast for its class and uses advanced ammunition, making it highly suitable for players who prefer mobility over armor protection, even though it can take a lot of punishment as well.

Clicking the link below will open the game’s launcher. Please select the Market option on the left and select Armored Warfare to access this offer.

T-72B3

The T-72B3 is the most modern Russian T-72 variant currently in service. It is a heavily upgraded version of the T-72B, featuring Kontakt-5 ERA kit and an improved Fire Control System. Together, these modifications allow the aging T-72 to serve well into the 21st century. You can learn more about its history in our dedicated article!

In Armored Warfare, the T-72B3 is a Tier 8 Premium Main Battle Tank. It continues the tradition of other Russian tanks. Its low silhouette, good mobility, powerful 125mm gun and its advanced ERA kit make it a formidable opponent. This version of the T-72B3 is offered without any camouflage.

Clicking the link below will open the game’s launcher. Please select the Market option on the left and select Armored Warfare to access this offer.

M1A1 Storm

In 1985, the Abrams was upgraded with, amongst other things, the 120mm M256 smoothbore cannon. Over 5000 M1A1 tanks were produced until 1992. This tank participated in Operation Desert Storm, which forged its legendary reputation.

In Armored Warfare, the M1A1 Storm is a Tier 7 Premium Main Battle Tank. The M1A1 Storm look was inspired by Operation Desert Storm, including a gorgeous camouflage net model. But, more importantly, this tank is equipped with a massive frontal dozer blade, adding extra armor and ramming damage to the long list of its advantages.

Clicking the link below will open the game’s launcher. Please select the Market option on the left and select Armored Warfare to access this offer.

MBT-70

Germany and the United States cooperated in the 1960s and 70s to create the ultimate Main Battle Tank to replace the aging Patton tank series in service. The MBT-70 prototype tank was the U.S. result of the development program. It was exceptionally well armed with a 152mm gun, capable of firing guided missiles and equipped with cutting edge technology, but high costs and endless delays in development led to the cancellation of this project and the subsequent adoption of a more reasonable design – the Abrams.

In Armored Warfare, the MBT-70 is a Tier 6 Premium Main Battle Tank. Several features make it quite unique – it has a large caliber gun that, while slow to reload, delivers tremendous damage with each shot. It can also fire devastating guided missiles and while its mobility levels aren’t the best, it can devastate its opponents with well-timed shots, relying on its armor to keep it alive while it reloads. And last but not least, this vehicle has a hydraulic suspension available, allowing it to tilt its hull to improve its gun depression and elevation.

Clicking the link below will open the game’s launcher. Please select the Market option on the left and select Armored Warfare to access this offer.

Artillery Overhaul Test: Results

Commanders!

Following our earlier Artillery Overhaul announcement, you had the opportunity to test an overhauled Akatasiya in the field for the entirety of the last week. We’d like to thank all of you who did so and submitted their opinions via our survey.

We have gathered more than a thousand detailed pieces of feedback and have the weekend reading and analyzing them. Today, we’d like to share the results with you.

The most important thing first – the test was a success with roughly three quarters of players supporting the direct fire overhaul. Specifically:
  • In the EU region, 72.5% of players support the overhaul
  • In the RU region, 74.7% of players support the overhaul

The more detailed results are also remarkably identical for both regions:
  • Firepower-wise, most of you thought the vehicle was adequate (60%) or underpowered (30%)
  • The HEAT shell was deemed relatively weak (55% adequate, 40% underpowered)
  • The protection level was deemed either adequate (55%) or too low (42%)
  • The mobility was deemed adequate by most (80%)

In other words, as you can see, almost nobody believes the vehicle was overpowered and a good chunk of you believes it was actually adequate in most aspects, which is a good start. Regarding detailed feedback, the most common points were the following:
  • You expect longer reload time but also higher damage per shot
  • You expect burst damage potential (such as the three-round magazine the Akatsiya has now)
  • You expect additional ammunition types
  • Protection levels need to be increased (but no too much)
  • Smoke shells and WP shells need to be tweaked

All in all, these results surpass our expectations and, as a result, we’ll be proceeding with the overhaul while taking your feedback into account by, for example:
  • Changing the firepower towards higher damage per shot and longer reload times
  • Improving the HEAT shells
  • Adding new shell types and checking the current ones

The overhaul will take some time to execute and more tests might be necessary but this is the road we’ll be taking. You may expect the results this summer. The Premium SPGs will stay exactly as they are now, for the time being, but any future SPG vehicles will arrive in the direct fire form.

And last but not least, the winners. Aside from the 250 Battle Coins for 5 PvP victories and 250 Battle coins for 10 PvE victories using the direct-fire Akatsiya, the following players will be getting their 6.000 Battle Coins for submitting useful and detailed feedback:

EU:
  • axelrajr
  • Dimitris_1
  • AndCosta

RU:
  • Weaver_1995
  • Енотвшарфике
  • MXsharkMX

We’d once again like to thank you for your participation in the test. Stand by for further news and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!

Mission: Unreasonable

Commanders!

Yesterday marked an anniversary of one of the best-known events in the history of armor (at least on the internet). However, unlike most others, this event did not include tanks or any famous battle. In their stead, there was an armored bulldozer.

At the turn of the millennium, Marvin Heemeyer was just like any other guy – by most accounts a good, reasonable man and a car repair shop owner from Granby, Colorado. But a series of injustices (both real and perceived) led him on a dark path that ultimately ended with his demise in the bowels of a beast he had built prior to the events of June 4, 2004.

There are several versions of Marvin Heemeyer’s story but they all include a feud between him and the authorities regarding a concrete factory built next door. The land of which the factory would be built was his and he had originally intended to sell it but the parties did not agree on a sum and the deal fell through. Despite this, the authorities decided to effectively seize his property and approved the construction of the factory. Not only would he receive no money but the factory would block the access to his repair shop.

He’d protest the decision to no avail. With all legal, reasonable options spent, Mr. Heemeyer (who held a deep grudge against the influential citizens in his town) became obsessed with this injustice until he did something nobody expected. In his own words:

"I was always willing to be reasonable until I had to be unreasonable. Sometimes reasonable men must do unreasonable things."

Being an expert welder, he would use his shop to build an armored superstructure of steel and concrete for his Komatsu D335A bulldozer.

On June 4, 2004, he drove out of the shop with it (by breaking through a wall) and proceeded to systematically demolish the properties of the people who did him wrong by ramming the behemoth into them. He destroyed 13 buildings in total, including the concrete plant, the town house and house of the mayor.

The police tried to stop the vehicle the entire time by firing no fewer than 200 bullets at it without any effect. Calling the National Guard or even an Apache helicopter was considered at one point but this would become unnecessary because the bulldozer got stuck in the last building it would demolish. With no way out (literally, the vehicle had no door), Marvin Heemeyer ended his life. It took the police several hours to cut through the armor with a blowtorch to recover his body.

The story started living its own life soon after and the modified construction vehicle received a name “Killdozer” after an old movie. To this day Marvin Heemeyer remains a divisive figure. Some hail him as a folk hero, pointing at him going out of his way to nor cause any casualties. Some attribute the fact nobody got hurt in the events of that day to simple luck and emphasize the fact that Heemeyer fired several times out of his machine (at objects, not people).

Regardless, the story of Marvin Heemeyer is not only a tragic one, but also serves as a warning as to what some people are capable of when pushed too far, a lesson best remembered by public servants everywhere.

Mission

In today’s mission, your task will be to deal as much ramming damage as possible in a single battle as such:
  • Participate in a standard mode match in two categories (PvP, PvE)
  • Take the screenshot of the result (detailed match results, ramming damage) and post it (along with a replay) to the form linked below along with your in-game nickname

The submission form can be found here.

Your entry must include at least a minimum threshold ramming damage per match (1000 for PvP, 3000 for PvE) to become eligible for prizes, which are as follows:
  • All eligible entries will receive the player title “Unreasonable”
  • Top 3 entries per category will receive 6.000 Battle Coins

Please note:
  • The event takes place between June 5, 16:00 CEST and June 11, 23:59 CEST
  • The PvP category only includes Random Battles, the PvE category includes normal PvE missions, Special Operations and weekend Special Operations (War Games)
  • Only one submission per player will be accepted (one player therefore cannot submit in two categories and if he or she does, only the earlier entry will count)
  • Should two or more players achieve the same result, all players will receive the reward
  • All submitted results must take place during the event

Good luck, commanders, and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!

Offer: Type 99B

Commanders!

Today, we’ve prepared the following items for you:
  • Type 99B Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank
  • Hunter Tier 9 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle
  • Pindad SBS Tier 8 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle
  • Type 89 Tier 7 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle
  • K21 Tier 8 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle
  • Iron Crate

Between June 2 and 8, 2023, the following items will be available:

Type 99B

The Type 99B is a fictional improved version of the currently most modern Chinese Main Battle Tank. It was designed as a concept by the Chinese tank community some years ago and we used the concept as a basis for its introduction. However, our version bears significant differences, most notably the Red Arrow missile launcher on the roof. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Type 99B is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. It is fast, agile, and capable of dealing tremendous damage over a short period of time thanks to its turret-mounted thermobaric missile launcher.

The Type 99B MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.

Hunter AFV

Another alternative name for this vehicle is NGAFV (or Next Gen AFV), since it belongs to a whole program to replace the obsolete M113 APC in Singaporean service and to operate alongside its predecessor, another indigenous Singaporean IFV called Bionix. Hunter is the name of the production model of this program. The Hunter AFV is the pinnacle of bleeding edge of technology. In this sense, it can be compared to the AS21 Redback and both vehicles share several characteristics, not the least of which being relatively large size. This bulky IFV offers considerable levels of protection and firepower. It is expected to serve in the Singaporean army in large numbers in the near future with its mass-production having recently begun. You can read more about its history in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Hunter AFV is a Tier 9 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle. As its description above suggests, it is a rather standard-sized IFV with good levels of protection and excellent firepower (consisting of a 30mm autocannon and a Spike ATGM launcher). It also features a recently introduced type of armor, NERA. Simply put, NERA is an ablative armor kit that deteriorates whenever it gets hit. In other words, the vehicle starts with excellent protection levels but it will lose some with damage taken as the battle progresses. Apart from that, the vehicle is adequately mobile and quite universal. It can, of course, also deploy Mechanized Infantry.

Clicking the link below will open the game’s launcher. Please select the Market option on the left and select Armored Warfare to access this offer.

Pindad SBS

The SBS platform is one of the first domestic armored vehicles developed by Pindad (the largest Indonesian armor producer) for Indonesia and is officially listed as a “light tank”. It was developed sometimes in the early 2010s with some prototypes in different configuration appearing in public in 2014 or so. The variant in the game is a long-range MLRS fire support vehicle with a 122mm multi-barreled rocket launcher. You can learn more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Pindad SBS is a Tier 8 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle. This AFV is fairly unique, since its main weapon is a multi-barreled rocket launcher capable of firing over obstacles. This makes the Pindad incredibly powerful in both offense and defense. Static enemy targets stand no chance! This vehicle is best used with Commander Ophelia Kitescu and in a platoon – the firepower of such a formation is truly without equal.

Clicking the link below will open the game’s launcher. Please select the Market option on the left and select Armored Warfare to access this offer.

Type 89

The Type 89 Infantry Fighting Vehicle is the current Japanese service IFV. It was built in very small numbers between 1989 and 2004. The low-production meant that, with the development costs sunk into it, each unit was incredibly expensive. In fact, to date, the Type 89 is the most expensive IFV in the world. Otherwise it’s generally unremarkable – last generation steel armor, a 35mm autocannon and massive guided missiles (that were also meant for landing ship destruction instead of just anti-tank combat) are generally being all phased out by now. The Type 89 is, however, still waiting for its replacement. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Type 89 is a Tier 7 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle that is capable of not only deploying Mechanized Infantry, but also to destroy its targets at long distances using its powerful guided missiles. It is also fast and maneuverable, but does not feature thick armor.

Clicking the link below will open the game’s launcher. Please select the Market option on the left and select Armored Warfare to access this offer.

K21

The K21 is a modern Infantry Fighting Vehicle, designed to replace the K200 series in the Korean Army. It features good protection and a hi-tech weapon system with the "hunter-killer" capability. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the K21 is a Tier 8 Premium Armored Fighting Vehicle. In the game, it is an IFV with solid protection and firepower, but also excellent mobility. It carries Mechanized Infantry.

Clicking the link below will open the game’s launcher. Please select the Market option on the left and select Armored Warfare to access this offer.

Iron Crate

We’ve prepared for you an additional offer this week. The Iron Crate is available on MY.GAMES Market with 50% discount!

The mechanics are very simple. This crate allows you to win one of the vehicles listed in its description (or its value in Gold if you have it already). The crate contains some very rare vehicles, including:
