Shadrac was a poor man, struggling to feed his family in a world ravaged by the pandemic. He had no job and no prospects, but he was immune and determined to do whatever it took to survive.
One day, he stumbled upon a group of traders from the Market Syndicate faction. They were buying and selling goods, making deals and profits in a system where everyone else was struggling to get by. Shadrac saw an opportunity. He started out small, trading what little he had for food and supplies for his family.
He learned quickly, honing his skills as a negotiator and a bargainer. As he gained more experience, Shadrac's trading became more successful. He joined the Market Syndicate faction, working with other traders to build a thriving community of commerce and exchange. Shadrac became known as a shrewd businessman, always looking for ways to make a profit and improve his family's situation. He traded in everything from food and clothing to rare artifacts and technology.
Shadrac was taking a route he had taken hundreds of times. He became surrounded by the Chitinoids, an alien race native to the location humanity now inhabited. He refused to drop his cargo and his ship was destroyed for his efforts.
Kat's Demise
Kat had always been driven by a sense of purpose. When the pandemic struck and half of humanity was left vulnerable, she knew that she had to do something to help. So, she volunteered to be part of the recolonization effort for the Free Confederacy to find a new home for humanity.
Kat was trained as a scientist. She believed the answer had to be on the other side of the wormhole that appeared. Ready to face the challenges of space travel and the unknown, she boarded her single person fighter and jumped into the wormhole.
Despite their best efforts, the colonists were unable to find a suitable planet to inhabit. Instead, they constructed a series of stations connected by wormholes, creating a network of communities spread throughout the galaxy.
Kat remained focused on her mission, working tirelessly as a scientist to study the new environment and find ways to improve the lives of the colonists. She also became a skilled pilot, flying the dangerous routes between stations and defending them against the other factions and threats.
Years passed, and the colonists adapted to their new way of life. They became a society of spacefaring nomads, traveling from station to station in search of resources and opportunities. However, Kat still believed there was a cure. She jumped into a wormhole and aimed to search for a new home, she was never heard from again.
Conrads's Road to Piracy
Conrad was just a teenager when the Dominion Authority came for him. He had little training, and no warning before he was ripped away from his family and forced to join the Authority's ranks. His parents, neither who were immune to the virus, were never seen again.
The Authority's training was swift, brutal, and unforgiving. Conrad struggled to keep up with the physical and mental demands. He missed his family and the life he had before. But he was determined to survive and attempt to save humanity.
He did not progress through the ranks and made very few credits, so Conrad started pirating to supplement his income. He saw more of the world outside the Dominion Authority's walls. He saw the suffering of the Free Confederation, the opportunistic nature of the Trade Federation, and the democratic ideals of the Galactic Union. The more he saw, the more he began to question his loyalties and his actions.

The selection process is rigorous and complex, taking into account a range of factors from health and resources to skills and social status. But as the chosen few prepare to leave, they face an uncertain future. Our technology is far from being able to find habitable planets, and the journey through the wormhole is fraught with danger.
