Kitchen Confidential #8 - Top Developer Tips!

Welcome to yet another Kitchen Confidential, my good old carbon-based friends!

Today I am going to be sharing some of my top tips so you can be successful entrepreneurs, taking over the world of fast food, just like me.

Things can get very tricky under certain conditions, so it’s important to pay attention and make an effort to increase the efficiency of your kitchen in order to deliver food to your beloved customers as quickly as possible. Here are some of the common pitfalls and some thoughts on how to get them sorted out, so machines will continue serving us, humans, in a predictable and non-world-conquering way.

  • Adjusting the time between ingredients in your dispensers can be an easy way to get the ingredient ratios right and avoid the use of expensive order readers. If your recipe, for example, requires two patties but only one bun, make sure that the time between ingredients in the bun dispenser is set to twice the one in the patty dispenser. You can also adjust the timing based on the number of customers that you are expecting.

  • Restaurants with more than one type of customer (like drive-thru and take-out) can get tricky sometimes. In those cases, it might be a good idea to have a constant flow of dishes being stored in a storage unit. Then you can use order readers to control a robotic arm to take the food from the storage unit and redirect it to the proper conveyor belt to be delivered to the correct section of the restaurant.

  • A good way to handle rush hours is to have a small buffer of production in a storage unit. You can even use a counting machine to turn dispensers on or off depending on the number of dishes you have in your storage unit, so you won’t overproduce.

  • If used properly, programmable computers can end up replacing up to four different order readers. They are particularly good if you combine them with repeaters in order to increase the number of effective outputs. Remember you can find the reference guide for computers on our website.

  • Are you experiencing frequent blackouts because you exceed the limit of power consumption? Besides setting machines so they use the power saving mode, you could also use a computer to turn assemblers, grills and other high power usage machines on and off alternately, so they are not all on at the same time.

  • You cannot deliver dishes quick enough because your good old assembler is taking a long time to make them? Consider replacing it with an advanced assembler, which is significantly faster!

Now go forth my fellow organic lifeforms and become the automated kitchen entrepreneur you've always dreamed of being!

Kitchen Confidential #7 - Mod Creation!

Hey everyone,

Welcome to Automachef's 7th Kitchen Confidential!

This week the definitely human Robert Person has graced us with their presence! Robert shall be explaining how Mods work and how you can make your own to play and share on the Steam Workshop.

Let's get stuck in shall we?

Mod Creation

Hello fellow humans, welcome to yet another “Kitchen Confidential”. This time we are going to talk about one of the features that sets Automachef apart: the tools that allow players to create their very own recipes, ingredients, dishes and levels and then share them with the rest of the community!

In order to see some of the creations you could make using the Automachef Software Development Kit, check out the Steam Workshop, particularly the following mods, which are extremely fun to play:

  • Danish Food (frikadellesandwich, flĂŠskesteg and other traditional Danish foods)
  • Delicious Desserts (ice cream, cakes, pancakes and more)
  • High Steaks (steaks of different types and different degrees of doneness)

Getting started with making your own mods is quite easy. We suggest that you check Automachef’s website and download the mod creation guide for more detail, but here are the basics:

1. Download and install Unity 2018.3.7f1. You can get it through the Unity Hub that you can download from Unity’s website for free.

2. Download the Automachef SDK from Automachef’s website.

3. Think about the recipes, ingredients and dishes you want to make.

4.Fire up your favourite 3D modelling software (like Blender) and start making the 3D models for your food. Don’t forget to prepare a square icon for each one of the ingredients and dishes you make!

5. Set up all the required data, like the recipes for your dishes, how the different cooking methods affect each ingredient, what recipes players need to prepare in each level, and so on and so forth.

6. Build the mod into a file from the SDK, copy it to the corresponding folder and start up Automachef to give it a try!

7. When you are happy with your creation you can post it to the Steam Workshop from within the Mods screen in the game.

We can’t wait to see the exciting and creative mods that our fellow humans are going to produce in the future!

Kitchen Confidential #6 - Contracts Mode!

Hey everyone,

Welcome to our sixth Kitchen Confidential!

Have you conquered Campaign mode? Built the craziest kitchens in Test Site? Are you hungry to build your own business to spread the joy of fully automated kitchens?

Then Automachef’s Contracts Mode is for you!

Contracts Mode

In this mode you’ll be running your own kitchen building company, taking contracts from different clients and expanding your business - who you choose to work with is your choice!

As you’re starting your own business you’ll have your very own cash reserve. This is used to buy the machines you need to complete the relevant contracts. Spend it wisely though, as spent cash can only be replenished from successful contracts!

Starting and growing your company

Initially you’ll start off with a basic set of machines. These will be instantly recognisable as your everyday kitchen parts such as conveyor belts, dispensers and assemblers. As you successfully complete contracts for different clients you’ll be able to invest your hard earned cash into researching and purchasing more advanced devices!

Once acquired, they can be used in all future contracts.

Choose your next machine wisely!

Risk / Reward

As you successfully fulfil contracts your reputation level will grow! When you earn enough reputation its level will increase. What benefits will this give you?

Well with a high enough reputation you’ll attract contract offers from much bigger restaurants, bringing in more complex requests and much bigger cash incentives!

Decisions, decisions!

If the sound of bigger contracts makes you nervous, fear not! Each contract you engage in will have three different difficulty levels, the higher the difficulty the more lucrative the pay-out! This means you can grow your business as a pace that’s comfortable for you.

Oh and we should probably mention that clients will often put an efficiency bonus on the table that will be paid if you hit, or exceed the efficiency targets with your design.
