Axe Cop : The Bodacious Update

For those of you who want to just quickly experience the story and skip battles, this update is for you! Now on the table of the break room in the Axe Cop Station is the infamous Dinosaur Horn. For those who remember, Axe Cop originally flew to the Dinosaur Horn Planet to rent this horn and used it to destroy the King of All Bad Guys' brain. It seemed like a perfect item for this particular task.

To use the Dinosaur Horn in battle, select it from the Items menu. There it'll automatically target all enemies and then do so much damage we can't even show it. Literally, it breaks the game's damage cap to obliterate these bad guys.

But user be warned! You only can get one of these items in the entire game. If you are playing the game and not worried about skipping any of the fights in the game you can sell this item at the Pawn Shop to get a hefty amount of cash for sodas and snacks.

New Menu Button

No major changes to the game, however if you are used to playing, the menu is now accessed through a designated button versus also being assigned to the cancel button.

In addition the following bugs/adjustments were made:

  • Big Foot now appears as intended in the Snow Planet
  • Rebalanced the points for feeding the owls in Snow Planet

Thanks for your continued interest in the game!

Axe Cop - The Excellent Update

As we close out the year, another minor update. This time addressing some misc. bugs reported. Your patience is appreciated and we hope you enjoy the game in it's final and intended state with all planned content.

  • Ending Credits displayed wrong total game time.
  • Ending showed Liborg (optional) appear in incorrect place during scene.
  • Land of Volcanoes Memory Station cutscene adjustment.
  • Multi-Vitamin not working.

Axe Cop - The Super Update

Are you surprised for another Axe Cop update? This one is much heavier duty than anticipated! While there is no new content, the updates in this one are quite substantial. First, the game now runs at 30fps while the original ran at 18. Things are a lot smoother and the entire game has been meticulously checked to make sure the uprate didn't harm any of the experiences in the game.

Several characters have been rebalanced, namely Bat Warthog Man and Sockarang with their move growth and a decent amount of attacks have been fixed.

Some quality of life and some other improvements have also happened. In the King of All Bad Guys, in the segment after you meet the Frog Queen you no longer need to walk all the way around to get back to the scrap machine. A new path has been made to make that portion a little smoother.

Because of how running is set up in the game, aspects of it had to change for 30fps. This opened up the possibility of making Liborg even more unique than he was before. He has part cheetah brain after all, so now he can run as fast as one! He has a fun after image effect for when he reaches that top speed.

The music and volume settings have been regrouped into a new menu to handle more settings, including adjusting the sensitivity of the autoruns. There are three degrees that should hopefully help players find a comfortable balance, a slower one that allows for less bursting into sprints between exploring or casually talking to people, the balanced speed which is what we believe to be the most approachable values, and then there's the third one which is designed to get running quickly. This feature is largely to help with some of the sneaking segments in the King of All Bad Guys. There's one jump in particular that can be quite challenging to get a running start, get into the right position and not get caught by a frog. This adjustment should make that a lot easier. In addition to that, there is now the option to turn on excessive flashing for those with sensitivity to that.

I thought the Deluxe Update was going to be the final one, but the idea to make the presentation of this game be even sharper was too tough to ignore. As a developer it's super fulfilling to know your work is in the best possible light it can be and can be more and more enjoyable to players new and old. Thank you for playing!

Axe Cop - The Deluxe Update

This is the final update of planned content! I know it's quite late, but it finally happened! Everything on all of the design documents is now complete. This was namely finishing two optional side quest cutscenes. Without further adieu let's discuss what's in this update!

First up, the 9-Ben Matanga quest is finally over! They finally confront General A! General A is a unique character because we made him up with the blessing of Ethan Nicolle. General A is a combination of vaguely detailed elements from the comics. Super die hard fans will put some of these together when they see the cutscene I am sure!

to trigger the scene, find and defeat all of the Matanga and then talk to Bobby in the Axe Cop Station.

As I'm sure you are aware of from the main game campaign, song statues have different effects based on the music that plays in front of them. For instance, statues have three outcomes, one for Flute Cop/Avocado Soldier, Sockarang and the Water Queen.

If you return to the Land of Volcanoes and use the Water Queen on those statues a special area will open up where you can learn secrets about Axe Cop's past.

Baby Man is the game's blue mage, being able to learn techniques from enemies. Several people have wanted a guide of some kind for how to acquire his moves, and rather than create an external item, I've updated the Bad Guy List to now show an icon next to all enemies that have a move Baby Man can learn. There are only a couple of fights where you get one opportunity to acquire a move, namely Eggy Eggy and the Badguymera.

There have been a small list of little bugs, nothing game stopping by any means, that have also been addressed in this update. I appreciate your patience and understanding as it took time to get to these final items. The game is very special to me, and I know to a lot of you, and it feels very good to know the game has the complete and final vision now.

Axe Cop - The Mega Update

Celebrating the one-year anniversary of the game it's time to formally announce all of the new content we made throughout the year! And man there is a lot! And so much to celebrate with this game!

First up is Liborg, Gray Diamond's best friend and a really fun rage character.

Completing the Dr. Yahoo side quest yields a new boss fight against the evil doctor and if you completed enough of the Fighting Zoo cups, an unlockable character with Liborg.

Liborg doesn't have any moves but is more of a charge character. You can even access super computers throughout the game to power up his unique stat boosting abilities. He can jump the furthest in the game which makes him really fun for exploring old areas too!

There are some new battles and challenges to explore as well, including a new Boss Rush cup at the Fighting Zoo as well as a super boss in the form of the Sea Ghost. One fan specifically wanted the toughest fight we could muster and this is as hard and balanced as we could get! He's a thrilling and super challenging boss battle. A unique part of the Fighting Zoo cup is you might find bosses like Dr. Doo Doo who weren't normal boss battles before who are fightable here. The pairings are also different with the bad guys! In the screenshot shown, the normal paired bad guy with Dr. Stinkyhead is the Vampire Man Baby Kid after all!

There have also been some updates to old content to improve the experience! The Stinkyhead Lab now has a minimap system to help navigate, and the Land of Volcanoes had a much needed palette adjustment to make it stand out better.

The man, the myth, the legend, Soda Piggy and myself sat down to discuss what it was like to actually make this game, the ambitions we had going into it and everything. If you were a fan of this game, this retrospective could be right up your alley.

In general this game has been a complete and total dream to make. I was able to take a property that I adored, had a really wonderful working relationship with one of it's creators, made the game with my best friends and after a year has passed I am still just as proud of it as I was the day it released. Axe Cop is the best thing I've ever made and I'm so honored for every person who takes a chance with it. Truly from the bottom of all of our hearts, thank you for playing our game.
