Backworlds released on Nintendo Switch!

We have been quiet for quite some time here, in part because things have been running smoothly but mostly because we have been busy working on a version of Backworlds for the Nintendo Switch! While Backworlds started as a PC game, we think it is a natural fit for the Switch and we are really happy with how the port came out. It is available on the Nintendo eShop since this morning.

So, what does this mean for the Steam version of the game? some of the changes we made for the Switch version take advantage of the unique hardware, but the more generic improvements we will add to Steam in an upcoming patch. This includes improved support for gamepad input and rumble, support for multiple resolutions and some other fixes.

Tentatively, this will be added in a patch coming in june. Thanks for playing!

Backworlds patch 1.1.1

  • Prevented game from crashing if certain keys on non-english keyboard layouts were pressed (thanks Gen for finding this!)
  • Made sure doublesize mode setting is saved and restored properly
  • Adjusted physics in one level with dubious collision response

Backworlds patch 1.1

  • Adjusted scripts in one of the levels to prevent the possibility of getting it into an unsolvable state
  • Screen borders when using the 'freeze' functionality now display properly
  • Fixed bug that could break rendering if entering the video options menu without changing anything
  • Made it possible to change keyboard inputs even if only mouse inputs had been detected
  • Made joystick cursor movement speed consistent across window modes
  • Added option to play the game in a fullscreen window if regular fullscreen causes problems (thanks Martoon for identifying and helping us test this out!)
  • Doublesize mode is now ignored if this will make the window not fit on screen
