BAFL just turned 2! And soon with online multiplayer!



On October 18th 2017, BAFL released on PC. But what is BAFL you might ask? BAFL: Brakes Are For Losers is a hectic top-down racing game inspired by classics of the genre like Super Off Road on SNES & Super Sprint on Amiga. But, what makes it unique, as the title suggests it, is that you CAN’T brake!

To be the best in BAFL, you’ll have to use your constant speed in the most efficient way to keep momentum & not crash into walls. This is a strong & unique concept for a racing game. The game is not about handling acceleration & braking at the good timing but rather about going fast without taking too much damage to optimize your ratio damage/distance. Each car has health that lowers every time you crash into a wall or hit an opponent & you can stop for a few seconds at pitstops to repair.

Will you be the careful driver that repairs more frequently to avoid getting your car destroyed or the mad driver that risks it all not to lose time repairing?


The game has several modes:

- A Championship mode you can play solo or multiplayer versus fierce AIs
- A Time attack mode with an online leaderboard
- A Perfect race mode where you have to do the maximum distance without touching any walls
- A Custom mode where you can create your own championships with your own ruleset with your friends

One cool feature about BAFL is also that the game has simple controls & you only need half of a controller to play! This is great because you can play BAFL up to 8 players with 4 controllers only!

Speaking of multiplayer, we also want to remind you that the new Remote Control System created by Steam to allow online multiplayer with local multiplayer games is coming! That means you will be able to create big tournaments with your friends from home, sit in your own comfortable couch!

Celebration Stream for BAFL release on Switch, big sale & patch for PC users!


Hi pilots!

To celebrate BAFL release on Nintendo Switch, we're doing a special stream on Twitch, Youtube & Facebook! Alain, our beloved developer of the game & Mickael, Playdius' community manager will introduce you the main modes in the game!

Then, it will be time to get on the starting line, they'll compete in a championship to see who's the better pilot! (Spoiler: one has many more hours on the game :p)

Because good news never come alone, the game on PC will be 40% off during one week! We've also done a patch, mainly to add optimizations made for the Switch to the PC version!

Patch log:
- optimization: various performance optimizations (including new light system at night)
- optimization: greatly reduced application loading time
- hints: new cinematics the first time in the menu track, to show the different parts of the game
- hints: new "double tap" tutorial to pop before harder races, unless you've already used it often enough
- fixes: AI cars could trigger the perfect lap achievement (oops)
- For Razer lovers: Razer Chroma keyboard support (lots of flashing lights!)

Patch 1.0.1 is live!

What’s new

BAFL has been out for a month now, it’s time to update to version 1.0.1!

We’ve added or changed some features and did some balancing, here’s the full list:

- in Time Attack you can now race against the dev's ghost!
- the quick-turn hint is now shown in the how-to screen
- in quick race mode, in-between rankings now show a general ranking instead of the last race's rankings
- money bonus now appears more often
- Vegas track: short cut through the grass slows you down a little less (it's now worth it in time attack!)

And this update also solves a few bugs! (see patch log at the end).




What’s coming

It’s time to announce some of the next steps to go for BAFL’s development!

For now, the next milestone is to port the game on Mac, we hope to make it available as soon as possible!

We’re also working on porting the game on consoles. If you have any wishes or suggestions, now is a good time to speak.

And note that, once ready for consoles, this will come as a free update for PC users too!



Bug Fixes
Thanks to your feedbacks, we’ve identified various bugs that we’ve worked on fixing, here are the main issues that are corrected in this patch:


- bug fix: fixed the bug where a car could remain wrecked if it exploded while being thrown out of the pits
- bug fix: the "win all races" achievements now work properly
- bug fix: night can now happen in quick race mode
- bug fix: pixelization could remain active at the end of the race. It shouldn't any more (hard to reproduce)
- various graphics & interface fixes
