Balloon Popping Pigs

Update 1.4.1: Two Player Pick A Pig Fix

Nothing much to report in terms of updates:

- Fixed 2 player pick a pig reversing which player picks which pig.
- Modified colors of backgrounds

Thanks to the extensive review that informed me about the pick a pig issue.

Update 1.4 New Music + New Ease of Use

Here is a more substantial update from the previous one:

- Added new song "Jungle Pigs" which makes for 4 songs including the pause theme.
- Added song shuffle when you play from a game over. There is still a juke box in the pause menu.
- Added dialog on the pick a pig screen for locked pigs to direct players as to how to unlock them.
- Added ability to visit gift screen from the pick a pig screen.
- Added a variety of visual characteristics to parrots.
- Modified "you need 50 coins" text to appear once at a time rather than letting it show up once with each press.
- Fixed blinking balloon during the character select.
- Fixed a window centering issue during the company logo when in windowed mode.
- Fixed purple parrots from turning blue as they fall.
- Fixed game over sending play to exit and exit to play when using a mouse. (woops)
- Fixed something that may have been an issue with defender movement speed in the competitive attack / defend.

Update 1.3.1 Mouse + Keyboard is Back

- Added a switch in the settings to toggle between mouse movement + mouse jump and keyboard movement + mouse jump

Update 1.3.2
- Fixed a variable that was off when it should have been on.

Yes its just that one thing. For anyone that uses touch screen, keyboard or controller exclusively, you will be unaffected.

While you're here... I should talk about the struggles and challenges getting this update out to you.

Once upon a time someone said he wanted to use mouse only controls while he takes a drink of something. You could always pause the game, but when you're in the zone you need to stay there and have your thirst quenched. With the intensity of Balloon Popping Pigs, people sweat profusely. This is all embellishment, I hear that's the key to good storytelling.

I tried my best to have precise only controls for both jumping and movement. You had to push your mouse a bit to ensure that you would move intentional.

Well there are the traditionalists that remember the good ole days when it was a mouse to jump and a keyboard to move. I also neglected the hardcore players who always wear a hydration helmet so they never have to take their hands off the controls. They wanted the precise - ivity of the keyboard and mouse.

Then like trying to decide cake or ice cream someone said "why not have both?"

In an attempt to make Balloon Popping Pigs accessible to everyone on all sorts of devices, this old control scheme was brought back into the furious action! Prepare to have your mind blown as with the flip of a switch in the settings you can go from one to the other without the struggle of having to update confusing .ini files.

Armed with my forging hammer I hopped back into the game smithery and restored the ancient control scheme to its former glory. Days of work flew by in minutes using the mighty hammer that was given to me by my ailing grandfather when he said... let the players play how they want!

The challenge was to update the settings menu as its getting full of options. Buttons for touch screen support, removing data, viewing credits and many others are all there. The game now features an overwhelming 42 icons sealed within its mighty 40 MB file.

With the update done, I quickly trudged up the mountaintop shrine to present the game to the mighty Steam where it was then bolted away from my grasp by lightning up into a cloud. It was gone and off to the world now where that massive cloud would rain down the goodness of another Balloon Popping Pigs update into your PCs.

The work was over once more... but for how long? Will there be more updates? How can more settings fit into a menu? When will there be new secret characters? Why have I written this long update? Where will you be when you next play Balloon Popping Pigs?

Only the future will be able to answer all these questions.

Have a great day, night or morning. Thanks for reading and thanks for playing!

Update 1.3 The Players Asked for It

Here are the short details:
- Added a new background, crumble canyon.
- Added quick presses move character selects faster than holding down.
- Added the ability to back out of pick a pig and return to the title screen.
- Added purple parrot to replace the top parrots. Purple parrots will fly up to become top parrots. If you are quick enough you can pop their balloon.
- Added a new pick a pig select screen to replace the old one. This is better for two players and readability.
- Modified pig unlocks from 75 coins to 50 coins. New players will now start with 40 coins rather than 50 coins.
- Modified player balloons to shift when they are popped so balloons on the far side will become centered.
- Modified mouse / touch select for pick a pig. You now select the pig before you confirm it with a second click.
- Modified point text popup colors to aqua and lime when leveling up and when being given double points from consecutive balloon pops without jumping.
- Fixed daily and weekly leaderboards.

Two of the biggest issues people have had with the game have always been, why can't I get to the top parrot, it takes too many coins to unlock a pig. The top parrot was always there to be so there was no safe part of the screen. If you could pop every balloon, why would you ever come down? This update lets you get those pesky purple parrots before they turn into top parrots.

There have always been many ways to get coins. The first is to collect them as they spawn faster and faster from every fifteen seconds down to five. The other way is getting a game over will give you a coin for every 250 points. The cost of ungrounding new pigs has gone down from 75 to 50.

Thanks as always to everyone for their feedback.

Update: The Background Update 1.2

For all updates its always difficult finding a visual representation that looks different. To alleviate this problem, three new backgrounds have been added to the game along with a night and day cycle. Here are the quick details:

- Added secret outlined mode.
- Added jungle background.
- Added beach background.
- Added pink lemonade beach background.
- Added day and night cycle.
- Added a right only mode where enemies will only spawn from the right.
- Added separate leaderboards for right only, easy mode and right easy mode.
- Fixed floating text from moving when game is paused.
- Fixed unpausing the game from the cheat console.
- Fixed never ending rumble when a player would exit the game over screen before letting the rumble end.
- Modified frogs to only spawn when both players are above a specific height.
- Modified enemy spawn time to be faster in lower levels.
- Modified double balloon time to last 6 seconds rather than 5.
- Modified popup text to be solid rather than hollow.
- Modified balloons to flash gray when they are invulnerable rather than becoming semitransparent.

Update: A Lot of Little Things 1.1

In this update there are a lot of little things that people have suggested that should enhance the game:

- Added friends leaderboard to single player game over screen.
- Added secret duck mode.
- Added secret pony mode.
- Added a balloon bonus if all cakes are caught during Catch the Cake bonus. This should make catching the cakes feel more satisfying.
- Added control scheme for mouse only (mouse and arrows had worked before).
- Added coin sound.
- Added exit button to game over screen.
- Added game over to give you coins for every 250 points.
- Modified title screen menu buttons to move at 2x the speed.
- Replaced difficult to read box font with easy to read, typical font.
- Modified cakes in 2 player mode to drop mirrored on each side of the screen.
- Modified the dropping cakes to spawn closer to one another to give the player a better chance at catching them.
- Modified star balloons to appear starting at 200 points and then double the amount plus 100 for each star balloon after that. So 200, 500, 1100, 2300
- Modified the frog to stay away during catch the cake bonuses.

Update Balloon Popping Piglets (Easy Mode) 1.0.11 + 1.0.13

The quick details:

V 1.0.11
- Added an easy mode for kids! *
- Added an easy achievement for a score of 250 points or more to hammock the large percentage gap between the second and third easiest achievements.
- Fixed "Catch the Cakes" notification from overstaying the bonus itself.
- Added a text in the settings to show yes or no for the toggle switches.

* The big part of the update is an easy mode for kids. If you fall off the screen, the pig will automatically jump until you're out of balloons! Because this would allow an exploit, achievements are disabled and there is a special unseen leaderboard that the scores get saved to. The easy mode leaderboards will come in a later update. To make up for this the pig participant dons a diaper & pacifier.

V 1.0.13
- Fixed a crash when using touch screen mode after the game over screen.
- Fixed player jumping at the start of touch screen mode.

Update: Toughest Achievement Toss Up 1.0.10

The two most difficult achievements have had their skill and grind level lowered down. This should benefit everyone as they are both more humanely achievable while still being the 2 toughest and vague achievements in the game. Now its a toss up as to which achievement will take longer, the grind, the skill or the saver.

- Modified "99 Red Balloons" achievement.
- Modified "If I had a Dollar for Every Balloon Popped" and renamed it to "Super Saver"

Update: Different Sprites 1.0.9

Not much new here. Just modifications that could be considered fixes.

- Modified cake sprites.
- Modified frog sprites. The frog is larger now, but the hit box is only the body.
- Modified a lot of achievement icons.
- Modified the red balloons bonus to be more red like those from Night Pig.
- Modified the background scores to stay put when you begin a game. Once all players move, then the background scores drift away.
- Modified Red Balloon achievement to attempt to constantly unlock on Steam once you've achieved it.

Update: Stats & Screenshots 1.0.7

Here is a more substantial update:

- Fixed screenshot issue where it would only take a Steam screenshot every other attempt.
- Added a screenshot button to the right bumper of typical controllers.
- Added stats screen in the settings with balloons popped, total points, total plays and other things.
- Added commas to leaderboard scores.
- Added a balloon launch to the title screen to give it more life. Balloons halt in the manual to make it easier to read.
- Modified credits back button to return the user to the settings menu.
- Modified location of credits in settings menu to make a place for the stats.
