Ballsy! World Cup 2020

Ballsy! World Cup 2020 v15 update - PS4 controller fix

By compiling with the latest Unity version, a controller issue was fixed.

I also made a little gameplay change: if you accelerate from walk to sprint speed, it would only do so in the direction you were currently moving in. This was a deliberate gameplay choice to force players to have the player change direction first, before they fully accelerated. However, I have changed my mind since, as I feel the downside weighs too heavily: it doesn't feel very intuitive.

If you preferred the old way a lot more, let me know, I'll put the previous build in a separate branch as an option!

If you notice any regressions with this build, let me know!

Full changelog v15:
- compiled with new unity to fix PS4/DS4Win controller issues
- can now accelerate to sprint into any direction, rather than only near the current walk direction
- team 1 (player team) now selected by default on world cup matches, to avoid confusion

Ballsy! World Cup 2020 v1.5 update - PS4 controller fix

Nighttime match performance patch 1.4b

1.4b should fix some graphical performance issues with nighttime matches. Cheers!

Ballsy! v1.4 with easier gamepad setup

Many players were rightfully complaining that the controller setup screen was vague at best. This was hard to fix without migrating to Unity's new Input System, which meant a complete overhaul of my input code. This should result in better input configuration, but unfortunately also means that any custom button setup had to be reset, so if you aren't using the default settings, you will have to reconfigure your button settings. I'm sorry about that!

This is quite a big update from a technical perspective, so if you have any issues, make sure to share them on the discussion board, or as a reply to this message!

Furthermore, I've separated the pass and shoot button, by popular request. The default settings have them separated now, but if you prefer the old single-button pass/shot, you can still set it up that way.

Player switching is now configurable, so you can have the player closest to the action being automatically selected, or the opposite; only have the selection change when you press the switch button. The default is semi-auto, which only switches automatically when a non-selected player receives or steals the ball.

Accidental ball collisions have been made more defined, hopefully improving the goalie's ball-deflection skills, and player duels.

Linux specific change: now compiling using Mono instead of IL2CPP, to fix a problem some players had with the sqlite3 library. If this version isn't working for you, make sure to let me know in the discussion board, or as a reply to this message!

Known issue on Linux: some gamepads get the wrong description; for example, my XBox 1 gamepad is named 'Playstation 4 memory card' for some reason. I think this is an issue with Unity's Input System code (which is pretty new), so I'm afraid I can't do anything about it. I've notified them about this issue, so hopefully it will be fixed in a future patch from their end. It should still function normally though, but let me know if it doesn't.

Merry passing!

Ballsy! now available on Linux!

Linux gamers don't have to wait any longer to get their fix of fluent passing play! Let me know in the replies or on the discussion boards if you're having any issues - hopefully none!

Other updates for this version include a refurbished team select/setup screen, which should fix some issues for people playing as player 2, and some more small bugfixes. Gameplay has not been altered.

Merry Xpass!
