Hello everyone! We have just released a new small update fixing a number of bugs and adding some smaller additions. If you have any feedback or suggestions, feel free to join our Discord Server!
Here are some of the more important changes in detail:
New Animations!
We have implemented a large set of animations for the Militia and all the Troops included in the Age of Napoleon mod. All of the new animations are based on the Gilhams Manual of Arms. Gilhams Manual was widely used and adopted by the United States Militia and a number of Confederate Infantry Regiments.
What's interesting about the Gilhams Manual of Arms is the fact that it is directly based on the French 1791 Manual of Arms which was used by the French Army during the Napoleonic Wars. As such, the new animations will be used both by the Civil War Era Militia as well as all troops included in the Age of Napoleon Mod.
New Gear for the Militia
To go along with the new animations, all Milita classes will be receiving a new set of civilian Sack Coats. There isn't really much else to tell, so here is a render of the two new Sack Coats we added to the game.
In addition to the Sack Coat, the Organized Militia will be receiving a set of hunting bags and powder horns.
New hitbox system and improved hit detection
We have massively improved the hitbox system in the game and consequentially improved melee and shooting hit detection. The Old System did not account for player movement and different animations at all, so the new system should be a lot more accurate. The system is not yet finished and still needs more work, but even in its current state, it should massively improve melee gameplay.
Official North American Monday Event
Every Monday at 8pm EST we will be hosting a weekly Official Event. The Event will rotate between different game-modes and maps every week. Anyone is welcome to attend. The Event will be open to the public.
Signups will be done on our Discord Server. in #event-signups 20 minutes prior to the event. All Regiment Leaders or Reps. must be present at minimum 15 minutes prior, so that we can figure out team balance in a timely manner and can start the event on time. Specialist roles such as Sharpshooters or Artillery will also be assigned then.
The event will start Monday the 11th July. First Event will probably be rather small due to the short notice, but we will see. If you have any questions feel free to contact Olafson on Discord or on Steam.

Welcome back, everyone! Or should we say "Guten Tag!"? Today we release another large patch for Battle Cry of Freedom, introducing an all-new Era and Score system, several new Confederate Regiments as well as the Prussian Faction for the Age of Napoleon mod.
Battle Cry of Freedom - Important Changes
As usual, we will go over some of the more important changes and additions in detail. You can read the full changelog at the bottom of the Blog Post.
New Confederate Regiments
This Patch sees the introduction of not just one, but TWO brand new Confederate Regiments which will even out the previously lacking Confederate roster. The Confederates now also have access to Confederate Frock Coats of different shades and patterns as well as a bunch of new buttons and brass insignia.
First up is the 20th Georgia Infantry Regiment. Equipped with mostly Grey and Butternut Frock Coats and Trousers, as well as a small selection of Royal Blue Pants, the 20th Georgia will stand out from the rest of the Confederate Infantry Regiments. The 20th Georgia is equipped with a number of different Firearms, such as the 53 Enfield, the 55 Springfield as well as the French Fusil MLE 42.
The second regiment is the 15th Alabama Infantry Regiment. The 15th Alabama is most famous for being the opposing force of the 20th Maines stand on Little Round Top at Gettysburg. Although the 15th Alabama lost the engagement there, they will still make an excellent addition to the game. The 15th Alabama is mostly equipped with Butternut Richmond Depot Vests and Butternut trousers, as well as a smaller number of Frock Coats. What makes the 15th Alabama so special is their weapon selection, for they carry a large number of different weapons, such as the 53 Enfield, 61 Springfield, the 35 Springfield Conversion, and the Fayetville Rifle.
Score System
We have introduced a brand new Score System to the game. Players will now accumulate score points for any positive (or negative) actions they perform in the game. The Scoreboard will now default sort players by score. This also means that support classes, such as Musicians, Flag Bearers, or Artillerists will get Score points for helping friendly players. Assists are now also a thing, and players will get bonus scores for various other actions they perform.
Here is a full list of the Score Points players can gain:
Killed Enemy Player: 20
Assist in killing enemy player: 5
Die while in line bonus is active: 2
Assist by helping load the cannon before it killed an enemy player: 5
Healing friendly players: 1 per hit

Additionally, instead of just ending a round when it's over, we have added a small UI that shows the 5 best players of the match and allows players to type something in chat and/or check their own Score for a few seconds before the round ends and the map changes. So better step up your game, so you can make it to the top 5!
Officer Order System
We have reworked the Officer Order System from the ground up, to be more accessible and user-friendly, while at the same time providing more features. One of the most requested feature was the ability for officer to draw lines and give orders on the ground. With todays patch, this feature has been fully implemented into the game.
Officers can now open their order screen by Pressing the "Mouse 3" Key. This will open a small window displaying all the possible orders an officer can give. Upon selecting one of these orders with either the mouse or with the corresponding 1-8 Keys, the officer can place the order in the area he wants to give the order at.
Friendly players in the Area will get buffs and will get extra score points when executing the order. For example, the "Hold Line" order will give players extra score points whenever they kill an enemy player while standing in Line.
Melee Changes
The melee system has seen a major overhaul. We have completely reworked the Bayonet Up- and Down-Swing animations and fixed various smaller issues with the Melee System. In addition, we have adjusted Chamber Timings, Stun Timings, and attack lengths. We have also worked on fixing some of the Player-Desync that has been occurring during melee fights and hope that it should happen much less frequently now.
Bot Improvements
In Commander Battles, if a player leaves the server mid-round his AI-Soldiers will now regroup themselves with another player's company, temporarily boosting his numbers. This should hopefully fix the issue that a player that leaves the game mid-round will throw off the balance of the game entirely since his AI-Soldiers are no longer being commanded by anyone.
In other game modes, Rogue Bots can now be rallied by using the "Follow Me" (F1 > F1) command. Rallying Rogue Bots will put them under your command, just like in Commander Battles.
New Maps on the Official Servers!
We have added a number of new maps to the official All Modes and Commander Servers. Join a match to check them out! Big thanks to our Community for producing these absolutely fantastic maps!
Prussia has arrived on the battlefield! Less than a month after the release of the Age of Napoleon modification for Battle Cry of Freedom, todays patch officially introduces the Prussian Faction to the game.
Prussia is fully voiced and even has its own musicians that play historically accurate tunes. All Uniforms in the Mod are customizable, although the customization options are not as extensive as in the base game.
Prussia will be a great addition to the game and will be fighting alongside Great Britain against the French Empire and their allies.
The following regiments will be included:
Westpreussisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 6
1te Garde-Regiment zu Fuß
Ostpreussisches Jäger-Bataillon
2te Kompanie, Brandenburgische Brigade
4te Kompanie, Mansfelder Pioniere
The new Era System
In Battle Cry of Freedom Admins can now choose from one of the 4 Eras included in the game.
Napoleonic Wars - American Civil War - World War One - Future Space Warfare
Since the game now has more than one Era in the game, we have decided to rework the way that players/Admins can choose between the various different Eras in the game.
We have reworked the system entirely to be as user-friendly as possible. Admins can now decide to play a certain Era in either the map rotation in the ServerConfig.ini or they can change the Era from the in-game Admin Panel, when changing the map. What this means is that from now on, all maps can be played on all Eras and that Admins no longer have to fiddle around with the Server Settings and Map Settings to play a certain Era.
We have coded the system in a way that makes it very easy for us to add more Eras to the game, so if any of you guys have suggestions or want to see your own mod added to the game, feel free to approach us!
World War One
For those of you who are either new or don't remember, the World War One Era has been in the game for a while now. It features two factions, a number of different rifles and ammunition, usable Tanks, Machineguns, Mortars, Quick-Fire Guns, Poison Gas, and more.
Read our previous Blog Post HERE to check out what it's all about.
Future Space Warfare
Players playing the Space Era will now see themselves fighting for either NASA or Roscosmos, trying to secure valuable resources on the Moon and Mars.
The new Era will feature a number of unique Plasma-based Weapons, such as Plasma Pistols, Rifles, Knives, and Swords. Additionally, Astronaut officers have access to Jetpacks, which allows them to fly for a very short distance.
Astronauts will also have access to Hoverbikes, extremely fast-moving vehicles that hover over the terrain and allow for fast transportation from point A to B.
Large Scale Linebattle Event - June 26th 9:00PM CET
We will be hosting another large-scale Linebattle Event. The Event will take place on the 26th June at 9:00 PM CET (3:00 PM EST).

Popular Event Host GameHost will take over the organization and Administration of the Official Wednesday event. Here is what they have to say about what they want to do with the event:
“When GameHost was asked to take over the Official FSE Wednesday Event, we were of course happy to help. During our time in the GGA, hosting events on the Napoleonic Wars DLC for Mount & Blade: Warband is what we did and we are striving to continue this on another game.
When we host events, we seek to make them the smoothest-running, yet interactive events that are available to players at that time. We aim to bring our A-game in hosting this event, this time, with greater server capacity.
Sign-ups for our event can be done in three separate ways: - First of all, there’s the traditional sign-up on our FSE forum post, we would like the regiments who are aiming to become regular attendees would sign up over this platform.
- The second way of signing up is done over the official FSE Discord or GameHost Discord, we would like the regiments that want to try out our event to sign up using the dedicated sign-up channels on these two servers.
- The last way you can sign up for the event is through our own respective Steam profiles.
We would also like to inform everyone that this event will be available to all players. Aside from traditional regimental play, we aim to host an event all players can enjoy.
We hope to see you on the battlefield!
Regards, The GameHost Event Team"

Several Community Members have come together to form a group dedicated to playing together and populating the Public Server/s.
The purpose of this is to help organize pub players to play together and create a community that will boost the playing population during certain times of the day. It will also provide a path for new players to learn the dynamics and mechanics of the game. The Community will support the player base that prefers the pub server’s style of play.
The BCoF Public Server Discord channel will provide General Chat, a list of Regiments and their Discord channels for those interested in joining a Regiment, a listing of known player’s guides, and a listing of public events with the necessary information.
The Server is not officially hosted by Flying Squirrel Entertainment but is an effort by the current pub-player community to come together and improve the experience of all players. We are merely encouraging players to join their Server.

Here are some of the more important changes in detail:
350 Meter Random and Custom Maps!
We have finally had the time to implement 350-meter-sized maps to the game. Sitting somewhere between our previous 200 and 450-meter maps, 350-meter maps should be the perfect size for line battles and smaller 60v60 engagements.

Flags!
Engineer Spawns as well as player placable flags, such as flags on walls, etc. will now display their correct faction flag.
Battle Cry of Freedom Sale!
Battle Cry of Freedom is currently on sale! For a limited time, you can pick up Battle Cry of Freedom with a special discount of 35% ($7/€7) off of the retail price of $19.99 (€19.99).
Every Wednesday at 8pm CET (2pm EST) we will be hosting a weekly Official EU Linebattle Event. The Event will rotate between different game-modes and maps every week. Anyone is welcome to attend.
Signups will be done on our our Discord Server. in #event-signups 20 minutes prior to the event. All Regiment Leaders or Reps. must be present at minimum 15 minutes prior, so that we can figure out team balance in a timely manner and can start the event on time. Specialist roles such as Sharpshooters or Artillery will also be assigned then.
If you have any questions feel free to contact Olafson on Discord or on Steam.

Huge Game Update! - Battle Cry of Freedom
Hello everyone! Today marks the release of Battle Cry of Freedom's most ambitious and largest update yet. After almost a month without updates, today's patch will include hundreds of changes, fixes, and features.
Besides all the additions and tweaks to the base game, we have been working together with the community to bring to you Age of Napoleon, a full conversion mod featuring the Napoleonic Wars at the height of Napoleon's reign over Europe.
Age of Napoleon has been completely integrated into the base game, meaning anyone owning Battle Cry of Freedom will download the mod by simply updating their game.
Battle Cry of Freedom - Important Changes
As usual, we will go over some of the more important changes and additions in detail. You can read the full changelog at the bottom of the Blog Post.
The Zouaves have arrived on the Battlefield!
Although our character artist is still in Ukraine and can not spend a whole lot of time on creating new uniforms, we have managed to implement the first Zouave unit into the game.
Based on the 146th New York Infantry Regiment, these Zouaves are dressed in the typical baggy Zouave attire, reminiscent of the French Zouave regiments from North Africa. This particular unit is dressed in Sky-Blue pants and coats, with yellow facings and a red sash. Their headgear is of similar North African origin and is either a red fez with a large yellow tassel or a red and white turban.
The 146th New York was equipped with a unique mix of weapons. While the majority of their companies carried regular Springfield and Enfield Rifled Muskets, the skirmisher company was equipped with a mix of Sharps Carbines and Rifles.
Iron Brigade themed update to the US Infantry
Due to the unfortunate circumstances, our character artist sees himself in at the moment, we have decided that instead of focusing on a single regiment, his time would be better spent implementing various new uniform pieces and gear into the game, so that players can construct their own Regiments out of the gear included in the game.
As such, this update will include a major upgrade to the "US Infantry". We have added several new Hardee Hats and updated the insignia selection for all existing Hardee Hats. Players will now be able to choose from a number of different horns, badges, and cords to dress their Hardee accordingly.
In addition to the Hardee Hats and insignia, we have added a large number of new gaiters and gaitered trousers to the US Infantry, making it possible to truly re-create the look of the various regiments of the Iron Brigade. We have even added the option to choose Navy-Blue trousers, making it possible to re-create the Iron Brigade as it looked mid-1862.
Boom Boom tubes, i.e. Hale Rockets
Hale Rockets were used in the early stages of the war and saw combat in several battles in 1861 and 1862. Although entirely abandoned by 1863 (The Year the game is loosely based on), we have decided to include them in the game anyway. With the addition of the Hale Rocket Launcher, the total number of unique artillery pieces in the game has now risen to 29.
The Hale Rocket was a rocket designed by British Inventor William Hale and was based on the popular Congreve Rocket design. Hale managed to stabilize the rocket in flight by removing the long guide stick of the Congreve Rocket and replacing it with a number of small exhaust holes at the rear of the rocket. Paired with an intricate design of fins at the rear of the rocket, the rocket would spin midflight and therefore stabilize itself, significantly increasing the accuracy of the rocket.
The US-Government recognized the distinct advantages of the Hale Rocket early on and started adopting it in large numbers. The US Rocket launcher was of a simple tripod design, with a launcher tube and counterweight on a lever arm, which could be used to modify the burn time of the rocket, and therefore the distance it will travel.
In the game, the Hale Rocket launcher can be carried by a single person and is capable of firing both 6-pound fused shell as well as 6-pound case shot. Although not very accurate compared to even a regular smoothbore cannon, the Hale Rocket Launcher has the distinct advantage that it can be fired up to 3 times faster than most other artillery pieces and does not require swabbing.
Let there be light! - The M1861 Coston Flare Pistol
The M1861 Coston Flare Pistol was a unique little pistol capable of holding flares of various colors. It was adopted in relatively large numbers by the US-Navy and although it likely did not see service on Land, we have decided to include it in the game regardless.
Just like in reality, players will be able to pick from 3 distinct colors. Red, Green and White. Each of the flares produces a clear and distinct color, easily distinguishable even from a distance. Flares can be used both for long-distance communication and for temporary illumination of the surrounding area. As such they will be a very handy tool for any officer who will find himself leading a company in the dark of night.
Work for me, you useless bot!
In Commander Battles, AI-Soldiers will now not only assist you with rolling your cannon to a new position; but will also help sponge, ram, prime and push the cannon. To claim a cannon for your AI-Soldiers, simply interact with it. Players will still have to grab and load the ammunition themselves, and AI-Soldiers will not aim or fire the cannon for the player.
Server Quick-Select buttons!
To make it faster and easier to join public servers, we have added quick select buttons to the game. Clicking on "Play" from the Main Menu will now put you into the Quick Select UI, allowing you to choose from either Player vs Player or Commander Game modes.
Once a game mode has been chosen and selected, the game will automatically put you on the most populated server of the type. The regular server browser is still available via an extra button at the bottom of the menu.
New Maps on the Official Servers!
Talking about servers, we have added a large number of new maps to the official Servers, bringing the total number of maps in rotation to 29.
Most of these maps were made by our awesome community, so I would just like to express my heartfelt appreciation. Thank you for all your help, you are awesome!
New Servers
To celebrate the release of the Age of Napoleon mod, we will be running several official Commander Battle Servers dedicated to the Age of Napoleon mod. In addition, the Official All Modes Servers will be running a mix of Civil War and Napoleonic-themed maps.
Camera Improvements to Aiming
We have completely rewritten the camera code for First, Third and AIm-Down sights camera modes. The new camera system will smoothly blend between the different modes and will automatically offset the camera to the right when aiming in the third person. This will prevent the reticule being obstructed by, for example, a French Grenadier Bearskin.
We have massively improved the Aim-Down sights camera. Instead of being glued to the back of the gun, the camera now slightly swivels behind the gun, just like a human head would. This also means that rapid camera movements mean that you will have to wait for a short time for the sights to come back in line again. Overall the new system feels much more realistic and greatly improves the enjoyability of aiming down sights.
I will get my revenge! - New Death Screen
We have added a death screen to the game, giving you useful information about whoever has killed you. The screen will show you his name, kill distance, weapon and projectile used to kill you, as well as his banner, current health, stamina, and bonuses.
New Faction System
To support the Age of Napoleon mod, we have programmed a new faction system. The new system is currently still rudimentary, but in practice, this new System will allow us to add as many Factions to the game as we want.
New Steam Achievements
We have added 17 new Steam Achievements to the game. Here is the full list:
Lazy git - Sit down on a Chair or Bench
Gatling go brrrrrrrr - Use a Gatling Gun
Surrender - Surrender to the enemy
This is my country! - Play as Militia
Long Shot - Kill someone with a pistol at 75 meters or more

Puppet Master - Get 2000 kills in commander battle game modes

Performance improvements
We have upgraded to the latest Unity Engine version and have also implemented various performance improvements. On top of that, we have programmed our own custom occlusion culling solution that should work dynamically on all pre-made and all custom-made maps. The feature is still WIP, so expect a few smaller issues. You can turn it off in the settings.
Other Important Quality of Life Improvements
We added a small hit direction icon to the game. Whenever you get hit, it will show you where you got hit from, making it easier to identify that you A.) Got hit and B.) Where you got hit from. The UI will also show you how much damage you have received, by being more or less opaque depending on damage received.
Players can now crouch walk and aim for 1 second before aiming is canceled entirely. This should make it significantly easier to shift aim while being crouched. Holding sprint while crouched will now automatically make the player stand up and sprint.
If reload while moving is enabled in Server Settings, players will now much much slower. They will also no longer be able to sprint while reloading. In addition, when bumping a gun into an object, such as a wall or a fence, the player will now recover faster.
Players who find themselves in melee mode but willing to reload their gun or go to right shoulder shift will now no longer have to switch to fire mode manually. Pressing RMB or Y will automatically put them into fire mode.
Player names will now be colored in Company/Officer/NCO colors, the colored circle around their banner is now also much larger and easier to see. The scoreboard will also show these colors. This should make it much easier to recognize who is in which company and who is the officer.
Age of Napoleon is a full conversion modification for Battle Cry of Freedom. The Modification is set in the year 1810, during the height of Napoleon's reign, and will feature two fully modeled Factions: France and Great Britain.
The Mod uses assets from the popular L'Aigle modification made by Docm30 (Jackson) for Mount & Blade: Warband. Age of Napoleon has been completely integrated into the base game, meaning anyone owning Battle Cry of Freedom will download the mod by simply updating their game.
Age of Napoleon features 2 Factions. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and the Empire Français. Both Factions have a large number of selectable regiments, uniforms, weapons, and troops.
The Factions are fully voiced and even have their own musicians that play historically accurate tunes. All Uniforms in the Mod are customizable, although the customization options are not as extensive as in the base game.

The following regiments will be included:
1st (Royal) Regiment of Foot
