Dev Diary #4 - Worldbuilding - Chippenham

Hello!

We've been busy these past weeks building the script for the prologue, setting up the quests, and creating the environment you'll be playing in during the prologue. We've also been creating the NPC generator, setting up the stories and motivations of the NPCs.

In the prologue you will be defending Chippenham from a Viking attack led by Haflan, son of Ragnar Lothbrok. Your vassals, allies, and whoever else you can convince as King Alfred, King of Wessex, and potential Bretwald will help you in your battles!

This time see how we furnished the rooms and polished the fort :)

In the fort we have created rooms for your advisors (Chancellor, Treasurer and Spymaster), as well as a war room and bedrooms for you and your family!








Dev Diary #2 - Royal Feast!

Hey!

It's been a long time since we wrote anything🙂 We've been working on the royal fort for the past week.

For the past week we have been working mainly on the royal fort. And in it, a royal feast where you will build relationships with your subjects!









Besides that, we are currently working on:

  • showing the first in-game event already directly from gameplay, so you can see what the game itself looks like!
  • working on the first years of gameplay for the demo, to put everything we have together into a 15-20 minute game. Keep your fingers crossed! After that we will start closed alpha testing as well🙂
  • next week working on a special surprise - battles! Who would a king be without battles?


We will also want to launch Patreon under our project - what do you think? 🙂

We're moving to 3D - new dev diary! A glimpse at NPCs and scene construction.



Hi!

You might have seen it on our social media, and now it’s time to make it official – we are moving Be the Ruler to Unity engine and into 3D!

Why? After the last beta testing, we noticed that the gamers’ approach was a bit on a technical side. Their in-game choices were dictated more by resource management than role playing and living through the stories we created. This put us kinda in a Reigns corner, and we didn’t like it. So, to make Be the Ruler more immersive, we’re adding 3D environments to walk around and smell the medieval air. It will allow you to experience being a king in a much deeper way.

All graphics are work in progress. We only started working on them in April, but we already want to show you a glimpse of what the characters in the game will look like 🙂

On a more technical note, our process for moving the game to Unity:

Welcome, Your Majesties!

I hope that managing your kingdoms hasn’t been too exhausting lately and you can spare a few moments to read what we’ve got in store for you this time. By my troth, it’s certainly worth your time.

Here’s a list of the things that have been done:

Welcome back Your Highnesses!

Long time no see, but we are back with a brand new dev diary ready to tell you everything about all the stuff coming up. Hope you’re just as excited as we are. So let’s dive right in!

Here’s what’s been done up until this point:

- New Tutorial, walking the player through resources, prestige, spies, wars and superwitan
- Options menu with music and sound effects volume
- Special events with information about attributes and the born children
- Events and consequences debug
- Background instead of black bars
- Graphics of children
- New foreign countries military power illustrations
- Romance illustrations sketches
- Enhanced investment events
- Enhanced romance events
- New sound effects for events and UI, new voices for characters, new music scores for victory and defeat
- Unifying animations throughout the game

Obviously, we couldn’t just end it without telling you what’s to come, so here’s what’s currently in the making:

Hey kings,

Another week, another development diary! A little update to keep you guys posted on all the cool things we've added this week and some future updates.

So without further ado, here's what's been done so far:
