Beach Buggy Racing 2

Notes for version 08.09.2021

Hi all! Hope you're having a great summer.
This update primarily updates our controller libraries to add support for the PlayStation 5 "DualSense" controllers. Fixed a couple odds & ends here & there too. Enjoy!

On your marks, get set...

Hi everyone!

This update fixes a few bugs, like that crazy Haze of Confusion one where if you pass through TWO confusion clouds and then crash and respawn your controls are permanently reversed. We thought about calling that a "feature".... but then we came to our senses and fixed it.

More importantly, this update paves the way for the Hot Wheels Booster Pack DLC which is going live on May 12. You need this update if you want to get a taste of that sweet sweet Hot Wheels action. You also need this update if you want to see actual Hot Wheels cars on your leaderboard instead of words like "HWRipRod_Default_HWDecal" or whatever.

So yeah, just download the update. And then it's count down to go time.... 3....2....1.....

Quickie update to fix that controller bug

Ah, the joys of PC game development. After the last update, we received reports of some players having problems with their controllers. And of course we haven't been able to reproduce those problems ourselves, which makes fixing a challenge....

But our best guess is that in the last update, we included the newest SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer) controller mapping, to keep things up to date and also add support for PlayStation DUALSHOCK 5 controllers. Our best guess is that the problem is coming from that.

So this update basically just takes that out and goes back to the old version. Which means 2 things:

  1. If you were having problems with your controller after the last update, please get this one and let us know if the problem goes away.
  2. If, after the last update, you were all "Yay! Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure recognizes the buttons on my superawesome DUALSHOCK 5 controller!!" .....um, sorry, kid, it's back to generic controller mapping for you.

Anyway let us know if this does (or doesn't! ːsteamsadː) fix your controller problems. If you had them.

Thanks!

Update: Bug fixin' and Paint swappin'

Hey everyone! Hope you're enjoying the game so far. This is our first major update since the game launched. For the most part we're just fixing bugs and rearchitecting a bunch of stuff under the hood to get ready for a major DLC announcement in the coming weeks.

But don't let that stop you! This update still has some good improvements, including:

  • Physics framerate increased to 120Hz. Cars should run a little smoother, and fewer collision glitches.
  • You can now swap and view unlocked car and driver skins in the Collection info popups, and save your preference.
  • Car painting now triggers from inside the info popups. So, go to the Collection, open the car you want, and paint from there.
  • Ghosts are now saved when earning trophies (in Drift, Firework Fury, and Time Trial League Rules)
  • Fixed some bugs, including a nasty crash.

Enjoy!

Tell your friends! And hope you can join us!

P.S. OK, we know on Steam the game actually released on March 10, but all the other poor saps had to wait until the 17th. Don't make them feel bad.

Launch Day!

Hello everyone and welcome to the first official non-Early-Access update of BBR2:IA!

Early Access players, thank you so much, again, for all your advice and playtesting. BBR2:IA has been in Early Access for one year and two weeks, and through that time we've played together, laughed together, squashed bugs together, and—I like to think—we've learned a little something about ourselves.

New players—welcome! We hope you enjoy playing the game as much as we've enjoyed making it.

All players—keep checking in regularly to play those Tournaments! There are going to be a lot of new folks from other platforms appearing over the next few weeks on our cross-network leaderboards (we hope!), so let's show 'em what Steam players can do. Also of course we'll be checking the Community posts for new ideas and any issues that might arise, and pushing out the occasional fixes and updates as we work towards our first major content expansion in May.

Thank you, and vroom vroom,

The Vector Unit Team

Release Candidate Incoming!

Hey everyone!

We just pushed out a new build that fixes a few odds and ends bugs and is officially, we think, we hope, the build which we're going to push to Full Release next week.

That's right, March 10, 2021 is the end of the gestational period of Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure, and the beginning of...its life? (I dunno where that metaphor was going.)

Thank you again to everyone who has helped play, test, offer feedback and support to our little cadre of developers while we work on this thing. It's been fun, and we're not done! We're still getting tons of feedback to sift through, and we are hard at work on our first major DLC expansion which is going to be REALLY MAJOR. You'll see. Just wait a little.

Also, if there's anyone who was thinking of getting the game but was waiting for Early Access to end, here's the choice you're looking at:

  • Wait until March 10 when the game flips over to "full release" and you get to take advantage of a modest launch discount, or...
  • Get the game now at full price AND grab that special Early Access car and decal gift before it goes away forever on March 10.

Either way, you win because fun.

Trading Cards are here!

Just a quick heads up that we have released a badge set for the game that includes a full set of Beach Buggy themed character trading cards, backgrounds, and emoticons.

Play, earn, trade, enjoy! We hope you like 'em!

Sincerely,

The Vector Unit Team

Thank you, Early Access players!

Hi everyone!

As the days outside grow longer, here in computer land we draw ever closer to the end of Early Access and the beginning of... The Future! (I wasn't totally sure what to put after the ellipsis... "the First Version"? "the Launch Date"? all sound kinda dumb. The Future sounds more awesomer.)

First and foremost, this update contains a special gift for all of you Steam folks who have stuck with us during the Whole Entire Year that we've been working on this game in Early Access. Remember a year ago? When we went to PAX and announced this game and released the first Early Access build, and then the world went to hell in a handbasket and we all just stayed in our houses drinking endless cups of coffee and trying to get Zoom to work? Ah those were good times. Um....

Anyway, we really do appreciate all of your feedback and comments and suggestions. And yes, your money. You helped our little band of 6 developers push through this challenging year and get this game done. Sure, we didn't literally change everything that you asked us to change, but we did seriously consider each and every suggestion. And we did make a ton of changes and fix a metric ton of bugs based on your feedback. And your positive reviews and helpful and supportive comments helped keep us motivated and excited to be working on the game.

And so in thanks we offer you a humble reward. Wanna be surprised? Don't read this: It's a new car and an exclusive Steampunk decal. Get it? "Steam"punk? The car is more of a sneak peak -- it's for Steam Early Access players only for now, and at some point later in the year we'll release it for other people too. But the decal is yours. Only yours.

In addition to that we fixed a bunch of small bugs and a few notable ones:

  • Mr Happy now shows up when you play his cup in split screen. Thanks frapopap for finding this one and also:
  • Time Trial multiplayer results now make actual sense.
  • DeatBat doesn't stay sideways when the car that launches it is sideways.
  • Buncha little bug fixes.
