Beast Pets

Patch Notes for v0.56.1

Fixed several bugs including the bug that switched from SteamVR to Oculus VR that turned out to be an Oculus Spatializer bug.

Bug Fixes

  • Downgraded Oculus Spatializer plugin to 1.36 to fix SteamVR spatializer bug.
  • Various other bug fixes and performance improvements.

Bug: Oculus VR loading zone displaying in headset (fixed)

Fixed in v0.56.1

So there is a bug with SteamVR and Oculus where sometimes Beast Pets will show up properly in the desktop view but inside the headset things are stuck in the Oculus loading zone (white grid). This is a rather annoying bug since it doesn't throw an error but there is a work around.

To switch back to Beast Pets, press the Oculus button (on the right controller by default) to bring up the Oculus interface and then select the Beast Pets app (or possibly just Unity app) that is currently playing, then just press the Oculus button again to hide it and things should be working normally.

Patch Notes for v0.56.0

Shake, shake, shake!

We finally took the time to teach our dragons how physics works and though they still ignore that whole gravity thing using “magic,” everything else is 10x better! We’ve also trained them to let you grab their front paws, belly and backside so you can give them belly rubs and chin scratches. Thanks to your feedback for a simpler mode and environment focused on the dragons, we’ve added Petting mode and Peaceful Park! Petting mode has fewer controls and distractions than other modes while Peaceful Park is a smaller and more relaxed version of Beast Park. Please send us feedback and clips of petting the dragons!

Food

  • There are now fewer Bland Berries on all bushes and their positions are randomized.
  • Fixed haptics on Bland Berries.
  • Fixed a bug where Spiny Squash fruits would fall out after opening.
  • Dragons can now eat Bland Berries directly from the bush (though they still prefer you pick them).
  • Beast Biscuits are a new yummy treat for dragons that can be eaten with a single bite.

Dragons

  • The dragons’ contortionist days are now behind them thanks to their joints stiffening up.
  • It’s now possible to grab dragons by their front paws, belly and butt.
  • Dragons no longer move around unpredictably after being bumped hard.
  • Petting the dragons while they’re flying is more natural now.
  • It’s now possible to give belly rubs to the dragons if you hold them on their backs.
  • You can shake the
  • It’s currently harder to throw the dragons far but this will definitely be fixed soon.
  • Dragons are now slightly better at teleporting.
  • Dragons are now slightly less obsessed with food and take longer to chew it too.
  • Dragons now have to work a little bit to lift objects.
  • Dragons now drop the uneaten half of fruit when they eat a bite.

Peaceful Park

  • Peaceful Park is a new, smaller and more cozy version of Beast Park.

Items

  • Added Beast Biscuits to the non-dominant pocket instead of a throwing ball for Petting and Free Play modes.

Petting Mode

  • Petting mode is a new simplified experience that is recommended for new or younger players.
  • Petting mode only has the Pink Sparker and Blue Teleporter equipped with the Sparkler selected on the dominant hand and the Teleporter selected on the non-dominant hand.
  • Petting mode has fewer items and food than Free Play mode so it’s less cluttered.
  • Petting mode starts the player off next to Tabby which has a rotating display of instructions and activity suggestions.
  • Petting mode has been added to Beast Park and Peaceful Park.

Powers

  • The Sparkler and Laser will now stay on without pressing down after double clicking the use button.
  • The Sparkler can now increase or decrease in intensity by moving up/down on the touchpad or joystick.

  • Gems no longer flash after they’re equipped outside of Treasure Hunt mode.
  • It’s no longer possible to switch gems on a hand that is grabbing or using a power.

Patch Notes for v0.55.0

Meal time!

We’ve been busy overhauling the food system this past to make feeding the dragons as delightful as possible. Tons of other changes under the hood to allow for more interactivity going forward.

Food

  • There are 3 new types of foods in Beast Park: Bland Berries, Pointy Peaches and Spiny Squashes.
  • Bland berries - Plentiful but not very satisfying, they grow on low bushes and are orange in color.
  • Pointy Peaches - More pointy than a normal peach and more flavorful, they grow on short trees in bunches (try breaking off a whole bunch instead of grabbing them one by one).
  • Spiny Squash - These grow on vines and have large spiny shells that need to be cracked open with the orange laser to get to the super delicious bits inside.
  • All the foods will splat if they get bumped too hard, try not to make a mess.
  • You can take a bite out of food by holding it up to your mouth, but make sure to save some for the dragons.
  • All the new foods take 2 bites to eat and show their half-eaten state after one bite.

Dragons

  • Dragons get happier when they eat yummy food.
  • Dragons are now more food motivated.
  • Dragons can become full now and are no longer have bottomless pits for stomachs.
  • Dragons become less interested in food once they’re full.
  • Dragons can now eat food without picking it up first which means they can eat from your hand.
  • Dragons are much less likely to hesitate getting close to small balls and foods.

Beast Park

  • Replace the trees in Beast Park with newer versions.
  • Retired the block berry vines from Beast Park.
  • Added new food and plants to Beast Park.

Mystery

  • Set the max number of markers to 10.
  • Moved the marker on top of the trees so it’s more visible from the ground.

Foraging

  • The dragons are hungry and need to be fed! Help feed all the dragons with food growing nearby!
  • Instructions for each type of food appear after teleporting to the nearby marker and disappear once that type of food has been picked up and eaten (by you or a dragon).
  • Currently only available in Beast Park.

Magical Tablet (Tabby)

  • Tabby is now invisible and untouchable by everything except you.
  • Adjusted the pet force field on Tabby to discourage pets from getting too close.
  • Improved grabbing and pointing interactions.
  • Added new food entries to help section.
  • Mode selection now includes Foraging.
  • Changed some quick start options to show foraging mode in Beast Park.

General

  • It is now possible to teleport with a hand that is also grabbing something.
  • Hands point and un-point better when trying to touch a gem with your finger.
  • Improved analytics and event tracking.
  • Tons of bug fixes and performance improvements.

Patch Notes for v0.54.0
