Beastmancer

User Interface Scale

Added a slider to change the scale of the user interface (only available during gameplay, it won't affect the main menu or the world map).

In case you are interested in following my weird and improvised game development career, here's my (kinda empty) landing page (feedback is welcome): https://store.steampowered.com/curator/33302095-Autarca/

Sorry for the small patch but I had to start a day job to pay the bills and is pretty demanding. I still love making games though!

New features: outfits and sacrifices!

Hi

For this patch I added these new features and fixes:

- You can now find new outfits (5 in total) for your character across the game (mostly in armor racks like the one in the screenshot). These outfits also give minor buffs to your monsters.

- There's a new location in the town where you can "sacrifice" monsters to give XP to others. Be warned: sacrificed monsters cannot be revived.

- Fixed a bug where Diomedes sometimes would address a male player as "Sister" instead of "Brother".

That's it for the moment. Please let me know if you find any issue with these features or if you have any ideas, I still have a few patches planned for this game before moving on.
I also want to say I'm sorry it took me so long to get this patch ready (and that is relativelly small), I've been having financial problems so I had to get some freelance jobs to sustain myself for the moment so my time is a bit limited.

Thanks for reading and I hope you are enjoying the game.

Regards,
Jorge

A few fixes and plans for the future.

Hi

For the latest patch I made these fixes and changes:

- Fixed a bug where in certain situations the game stops being paused while using the loading and saving panels.
- Reduced a bit the dificulty spike at the last scenario.
- Added sound effects to the death animations of a few monsters that didn't had them.
- Fixed a bug where the Merfolk Captain had no actions or resistances.
- Fixed a bug where pressing a shortcut key while in the pause menu would stop the game being paused.
- Fixed a few grammar errors in the intro and interlude before Nusquam.
- Fixed a bug where certain visual effects after the last battle didn't had their proper sounds triggered.
- Now the mana bar will show the current mana of an enemy beastmancer if it's his/her turn.

What now?

Now about my plans, hopefully this the last patch that only includes fixes. My priority now is to start adding a few extra features and content. Here's some ideas that I hope to implement in the next months:

I would like to add outfits for the main character. These could be found as regular loot and the idea is that they give you small bonuses:

I have a few extra monsters that I want to add (after I prepare them and fix them):

I would also like to add extra lore like monster descriptions and more things to do in the town of Nusquam. I'm thinking of adding other stores or places where you can do more activities, one of my ideas is to add another shrine where you can "feed" a monster to another so they can level up (ideas are welcome here!).

As always I'm open to feedback but that doesn't mean that I'm going to be able to make every change you ask. For example, I've received complaints that the Monster Control stat is overpowered and while I understand that, changing it now would cause a lot of problems. I can explain further in the forums in case some of you want a detailed explanation of why this would be a problem. I hope you understand.

If the games does better in sales I would like to contact the studio that made the monster models and try to get them to sell me more. Of course, I can't make promises (that studio is pretty dead :P ) but if that happens I think I could add them in a special area, I have a story in mind for a free DLC.

Well, that's it for the moment. I hope you are enjoying the game, while this project took everything I had (seriously, I almost went broke) I enjoyed a lot making it and I would like to keep working on it at least for a few months.

Jorge

Steam Cards Available!

Hi

I added 10 cards to the game (based on the legendaries and starter monsters). Get them while they're hot!

I've been a bit busy but I'm still working in the game and I hope to have a new patch with fixes, new features and maybe a pair of new monsters soon. Even if I don't answer to every post I'm still reading them so feel free to share your feedback.

Jorge

Linux Version Available!

Better late than never! the Linux version of Beastmancer is now available.

Now I'll get back to work on regular patches and Steam cards.

Patch # 3

Hi

For this week's patch I made these fixes and changes:

- Changed filter of resolutions to show those with height >= 720 instead of 900 (this should stop the bug where the list of resolutions appears empty, if not please let me know).
- Fixed a bug where the resolution list showed a resolution different from the one selected.
- Added an extra evaluation of achievements Rise, Alchemist and Archmage when loading a game (in case they didn't trigger properly).
- Fixed a bug where random encounters in the Sunken Temple caused an error.
- Fixed a bug where healing actions from monsters would give them XP even if they have reached level cap.
- Changed resolution mode in Main Menu, Intro and Ending to be proportional to the size of the screen (please let me know if you have any issue like text outside of the bounds of the screen).
- Added Credits screen.

That would be all for the moment. Please let me know if you find any problems.

Regards,
Jorge

EDIT 2017-10-19: made a small patch (not worthy of a new announcement IMO) to fix an issue with the Archmage achievement (look for a missing spell in the Volcanic Cavern).

Patch # 2

Hi

For this week's patch I made the following fixes and changes:

- Added an option to "Rest" during exploration (button in the bottom bar). This option allows you to restore your mana but if there's monsters roaming there's a chance that an encounter will be triggered. I added this option after hearing feedback that people wanted more options to recover mana. This option is not available in all areas (ex: Nusquam). Please let me know what you think.

- Fixed a bug that stopped the Full Screen option from updating properly in the Options menu.
- Added an option to delete save files in the Load and Save Game screens.
- Fixed a bug where a few ruins in Temple Island were floating.
- Fixed a bug where a location in Forgotten Pass was marked in the map as saying "To Cursed Tower" instead of "To Forest Ruins".
- Fixed a bug where the achievement Rise was not getting triggered.
- Added a small tooltip that shows capture chances when you are using a crystal in a wild monster.

- Now the Luck stat will increase capture chances.
- Fixed a bug where the Magic stat was less powerful than expected (now it affects power of spells, potions and bombs properly).
- Added category (common, rare, legendary) to Monster screens in Bestiary, combat and capture.
- Added passive effects to list of skills in Monster screens in Bestiary.

There's a few more things that I wanted to add to this patch but time was running out so I'll add them in the next patch (hopefully next week).

As you can see with this patch I'm reading your feedback and working on it so feel free to talk to me in the forums.

Regards,
Jorge

Hotfix!

This is just a small patch that I had to upload quickly to solve two issues that could ruin player's experience:

- Made another way to get in the church's basement. This is necessary in case you don't start Diomedes sidequest before he leaves the tavern (once you start the Elemental Locks Quest you'll be able to ask the sacristan for a key if you still don't have it).

- The chances of spawning a monster (Gargoyle) in certain areas were too low making it very dificult to complete the collection so I increased them.

I have another "real" patch planned for this week. I'm reading your feedback and I plan to do something about many of your requests like another way of restoring mana (I'm thinking of adding an option to rest in the field with a % chance to trigger combat) and more UI data (show type of monster, passive abilities, chance of capture, etc.). Of course, I'll be making bug fixes too.

Please feel free to share your feedback and ideas in the forums so I can consider them in future patches.

Regards,
Jorge

Patch # 1 live!

Hi

For this 1st patch I made these changes:

- Fixed a bug where some monsters would load incorrect stats and level after being summoned from the reserve.
- Fixed a bug where in some cases changing resolution and fullscreen wouldn't change after clicking Apply in the Options menu.
- Added sound of death to a few monsters that didn't have it.
- Changed hit effect in "Porcupine" special move (from Viverrus monster).
- Added a pair of missing spellbooks.
- Now pressing the hotkey for a panel will also close it (for ex: I for Inventory).

If you have technical issues please share them in the forums so I can look for a solution if possible.

By the way, currently Steam is experiencing technical problems (slow downloads). This is not specific to this game, it's happening to several games in different regions and is up to Steam to fix it (I say this because I know someone already refunded the game because of this).

I'm also reading your feedback about the gameplay so I can consider it in future patches (I'll make something about the mana mechanics) and hopefully I'll have a Linux version soon.

That would be all for the moment.

Regards,
Jorge
