The Acrocanthosaurus Patch


New Content


+Added the Acrocanthosaurus with its new model
+Added new Acrocanthosaurus ability: Intimidating Roar
-At the expense of significant ability power, the Acro can roar at an opponent, causing them to lose mild stamina, ability, and receive a substantial damage debuff for a short period of time
-The new talent, Intimidating Roar, improves upon all the aspects of this ability
-The intent of this ability is such that Acro can contend with larger, harder hitting creatures
-There is a talent in the power tree that enhances this ability

Optimization


+Numerious server-side optimizations that should significantly relieve the server's CPU load, resulting in less lag

Bug Fixes


+Fixed: Transitions into crouch no longer play the crouch animation rapidly until the creature slows down
+The blocking of certain console commands such as r.fog now work properly.
-Let us know if any more commands are giving players unfair gameplay advantages
+The Observer Camera no longer plays splash sounds or becomes enemies with other, nearby creatures
Mechanics Changes
+Modified the feather technology a bit to support more patterns on the feather masks
+Added comfort drop code to groups + fixed some loopholes related to getting the pawn ref from the group member.
-Removed Solo Mode from the main menu. We will not be developing a solo gameplay mode.
+Eggs no longer receive necrophobia
+Necrophobia now only starts applying to herbivores who are subadult, and only grants its full influence when at adulthood
+Necrophobia is only induced by ribcage carcasses. Meat legs no longer apply Necrophobia.
+Enemy status is now only gained from other players of whom you are in line of sight with
+Players now have a 30 seconds supplice window post login and post spawn to prevent spawn killing. It allows them to move invisible to other players for 30 seconds, unless they use any kind of broadcast, ability, or attack.

There will be a hotfix deployed shortly to address the occasional crashes players are experiencing with this new patch.

It is known that players occasionally crash as they spawn or respawn. This was fixed, but until the hotfix drops, a way to avoid the crash is to stay still for 30 seconds post spawn.

Hammer Patch Hotfix

+Added a new debuff to the game: Necrophobia
-When herbivores are close to carcasses, they gain Necrophobia, which sharply drops comfort
-This only works on the Life Cycle game mode
+Velociraptor is now implemented in skin customization.
-For now, one can select either the default Steller Jay skin or Dart. Dart will be customizable in the near future.
+Fixed: Skins should no longer occasionally appear solid black, unable to be customized
+Fixed: Some foliage issues on AP, and put invisble walls on FI to prevent players from getting under the map
+Fixed: Reproduced and fixed an instance of skins being applied to animals they did not belong to
+Fixed :A mistake in the player list that would crash the server occasionnaly
+Mosa now properly never oneshots creatures, instead of always oneshotting creatures with its grab
+Started implementing server preferences to sort servers etc
-Take notice that you must now double click servers to join. It isn't yet intuitive
+Server now explains why the connection was refused for a user.
+Tyrannosaurus swimming walk speed is now 275, down from 315

The Hammer Patch


SERVER MANAGEMENT


-Unban and unmute should now work properly, and also handle using the player name instead of their id
-Added a config setting: ReservedAdminSlots, defaults to 2.
-Quadrupled the max net bandwidth/s for servers, from 512kB to 2MB (test)
-We can now permanently publisher ban players caught cheating in the game.

  • This will prevent access to any game server. You have been warned.
  • Players that were caught cheating have received VAC bans. You have been very warned.


-Admins are now notified when a player is kicked/muted/banned from their command, and whether it was successfull or not.
-Offline players can also be banned now.
-Online players that are banned are also IP-Banned
-Added support for blocking some default UE4 commands, and added a few known offending commands to the list.

  • If there are any UE4 commands that we need to add to this list, please let us know. We're looking for commands that give players an unfair advantage

-Nametags now also display the player's growth if accessible.
-Added "EnterSpectate" and "LeaveSpectate" commands, along with a new admin command in the server config: EAdminCommands::UseObserver to access them.
-Added the first pass on the Server Manager UI (Work in progress)

  • It allows admins to see the punishment list, and take action on it if allowed.
  • It allows authorized admins to view and/or edit the server's database while in game, displaying information about online and offline players that are saved on the server.
  • It can be accessed via the Escape menu by authorized users.
  • The purpose of this tool is to offer a hub for admins on their server, to handle players more easily.


BUG FIXES


-Misc work on Ancestral Plains - fixing stuck areas, patching map holes, etc
-It should no longer be possible for creatures to get stuck in the wrong
animation state underwater, appearing as if they're running or walking instead of swimming
-Fixed: Eggs should now properly save and load creature type and egg appearance
-Fixed: Dropped items no longer snag on foliage, causing them to float above the ground
-Player name tags should no longer duplicate
-Fixed: The volume sliders should now properly work, and the music volume defaults to 30%
-Fixed: The spawn point closest to the origin of the map is no longer removed from being possibly selected

  • This means spawn point 3 on DM_Caldera will finally be in use

-Admin Nametags no longer overlap, making them hard to read, if a player is closer to the using player, this widget will be more visible.
-Admin Nametags now hide if offscreen
-Fixed: The player list no longer gets stuck open after performing certain operations with chat and the player list simultaneously
-Fixed: Saved skins can no longer be loaded unless on the creature selection screen, while playing Life Cycle

MECHANICS CHANGES


-When servers load up, the ocean now always starts at high tide to prevent
beaching aquatic creatures after a restart or crash
-Pteranodons who fall off ledges or who log in while in the air now automatically enter flight mode
-For carnivores, creatures of your species that are not in your group now apply negative comfort
-Mosasaurus no longer can 'swallow prey whole,' killing them in one shot. Instead, it always deals thrash damage
-Addresses to Spawn Camping issues:

  • When a player dies, half the spawn points on the map that are deemed the most crowded will never show up for a newly spawning player.

-Freshwater now replenishes more quickly on servers with higher population.

BALANCE CHANGES


-Tyrannosaurus now deals 400 damage, down from 500, per bite
-Ichthyovenator max HP is now 750, up from 625

MAPS


-Seaweed is now edible on Forest Island and DM_Caldera.
-Trees and rocks should now be climbable for the velo on Forest Island and DM_Caldera.

BUG FIXES

-Fixed the player count bug we've encountered, joining servers shouldn't be so much trouble anymore.
-Adjusted all dinosaurs net culling distance to fix the flicker issue, where dinosaurs would phase in and out of view.
-You can no longer open the chat when the tab menu is open, and get stuck there.
-Chat no longer cuts out certain caracters.
-It should no longer be possible to sometimes group with other animals of a different species, unless you are an herbivore grouping with herbivores.

OPTIMIZATION
-Adjusted the distance culling of various plants on ancestral plains for optimization.
-Adjusted some map element's LODs for optimization.
ADJUSTMENTS AND IMPROVEMENTS
-For now, skins can be changed post-spawn, so long you're younger than 0.8 growth.
-Adjusted the rain color and size on screen
-Added more spawn points on Ancestral Plains and adjusted the location of others.
-Improved water reflection effects
-WIP rivers, spawn points, & water sources on Ancestral Plains
-Carcass' lifetime now also scales with the animal's size it came from, making them last up to 5 times longer depending on size.
-Food value of plants now scales with plant scale
-Comfort loss is now less harsh for smaller creatures that are in close proximity to larger ones
Velociraptor
-Veloci now has 100 health, up from 75 - this might change
-Veloci attack speed increased from 0.9 to 0.75

First Post-Release Patch

Optimization
+Improved net priority for carcasses and adjusted their net culling, such that they should immediately spawn even on crowded servers
+Certain plants now properly cull on Ancestral Plains (better fps), and some particularly laggy plants were removed
+The server no longer loads all nonwoody foliage on Ancestral Plains
-This will help with server-side lag spikes induced by foliage eating
+Set all foliage on Ancestral Plains to use simplified collision, which will reduce client-side fps stutters related to others eating plants

Server Control
+Added Admin command "ToggleNameTags" for admins to see player's name, ID and ID64 on screen.
+Added the ServerMute command, to mute a player.
+Started reimplementing bans, etc (work in progress)
+Players should no longer be able to join a server that is on a different game build than their own

Bug Fixes
+Fixed: Skins that have no dirt or bioluminescent masks no longer can turn black after a skin with these masks has been selected

+Acrocanthosaurus' sprint speed is now 800, up from 703
+Acrocanthosaurus' walk speed is now 500, up from 375
+Juvenile Apatosaurus can now eat foliage grade 4 plants (typically, small conifers or large bushes)

Mechanics Changes
+Reduced wind volume by 70%
+Freshwater now has significantly improved underwater visibility
+Made scent clouds 55% smaller and turned their opacity down, and added a view distance of 5000 units on them. (subject to change)
+Bones no longer spawn during the Combat game mode
+Removed the respawn cooldown as it's being a problem

Additional notes for today's patch:
-Adjusted Carcass net culling distance (150K UE units)
-Adjusted scent culling to 200K UE units
-Adjusted scent opacity to 0.35 up from 0.1
-Fixed various bugs related to the velociraptor, hopefully fixing the cases were it would fall through the map.
-Hitting shift or control while climbing a surface no longer makes you fall through the map.
-Added the command "UnbindClimbingComp" which will be helpful if you get stuck climbing a tree, this will disconnect the climbing system from the character and recover your normal controls.
-Dying as velociraptor while climbing should no longer leave you unable to control your creature post respawn.
-Adjusted velociraptor camera to not clip through the map
-Adjusted megalo camera to have it more centered with the body.
-Added the Donor Skin: Glimmer Apato

Regarding Launch Issues

"Hey everyone, I am working on a fix for the client-side FPS stutter that's going on. It's related to foliage, and every time a plant is eaten, picked up , or destroyed, it's causing a stutter on every computer (including the server, which is likely causing lag spikes as well). I'm hoping to get a hotfix for this out later tonight.

The FPS stutter is happening because every time a plant is eaten, the game must re-compute the collision bounds for the entire 'Instanced Foliage Actor' on the map, which is resulting in a hefty CPU spike due to the sheer volume of foliage on Ancestral_Plains.

The servers are also having a very difficult time when exceeding 40-50 players. We'd recommend not having servers larger than 50 players at this time, as it is going to result in a very unstable gameplay experience.

Vipe and I are working to improve the worst offenders in these regards!"

Known issue: Group only work species-specific, instead of allowing herbs to group together, this will be fixed in a few hours.
