Hey Peeps!

We have a few fixes this patch to make your gaming experience that little bit better.


Patch Notes

  • "Missing Entry" in French changed to "Entrée manquante"
  • In French, when a player gets a new Discovery notification, the title wasn’t translated
  • Fixed issue with the building placement highlighting - valid placements for the Desalination Plant near
  • inland water were not being highlighted
  • Tooltip for the Remove button on a Smart Shipping resource was incorrect - always changed to talk about Cotton
  • Spaceships that have not been launched yet are no longer listed in the Smart Shipping spaceship UI
  • Middle-clicking on a building rapidly should no longer cause a drop in performance
  • If you start the Tutorial and save your game after building 3 roads but no Huts, you’re no longer blocked on reloading
  • Performance improved when opening the Island summary dialog on heavily populated Islands
  • On Graphics settings less than High, Toxic Tiles are no longer invisible
  • Fixed an issue with Shipping Lanes when they’re attached to a Space Port that is being upgraded

We're working on the sequel to Before We Leave!

Hi everyone! We're working on a new game! Some of you already know this, or have guessed (well done) but it's very exciting to officially tell you all.

INTRODUCING PROJECT CHARLIE





Our new game (aka Project Charlie, for now) is a city builder set on the back of a giant whale who is flying through space. The sequel to Before We Leave, it will add new elements of discovery, and a poignant story, lightly told. Alongside our in-house team, the artists and sound designers that created Before We Leave are hard at work on the project, to create a relaxing and atmospheric experience.

What is a "Project Charlie"?

It's the code name for our new game!

‍How long have you been developing the new game for?

We began phasing between Before We Leave and our new game in January 2022. As of September 2022, all of us are now working on the new game pretty much full time!

How many people are working on the new game?

There are 7 employees at Balancing Monkey who are working on it, plus 5 contractors so far.

‍When will it be released?

When it's done! Sorry we can't be more precise.

The concept art is cool, but I want to see more! When will that happen?

Eventually 😉

Is your new game related to Before We Leave at all?

Yep! Project Charlie is the sequel to Before We Leave.

What platform (or platforms) will it be available on?

Definitely Steam! That's all we know at this stage.

‍Any sort of multiplayer this time?

Not sure. Stay tuned for more info.

Are you self publishing, or do you have a publisher again?

We're still figuring this out. Again, stay tuned for more info.

Before We Leave news - We're going to PAXAus!

Kia ora everyone! We haven't done a news update since May (what?!) so it's such a treat to be writing t you all again.

Things are going nicely at the studio, and while we're quietly working on our next project we do have some Before We Leave news for you!



PAXAus



Yep, we’re going international as a team for the first time to the one and only PAXAus in early October! We’ll be showing off Before We Leave, and if you’re lucky, you might see a small something from our new project (don’t worry, we’ll be sharing info here too) 👀

Twitch Steam Hiatus



As we delve deeper into the development of our new game, the Twitch stream has entered hibernation. It’ll be back when we have cool stuff to share with you all!

Wrapping Up Before We Leave



After over 4 years of development, 2 PC launches and 3 console launches, development of Before We Leave is wrapping up in earnest. It’s nice to call our game done!

That said, we still have plans for one or two more bug fix patches, but we’ll announce more information on that when we have it. Thank you to everyone who played (and continues to play!) Before We Leave, the response that we’ve received from our debut game exceeded our wildest expectations ❤

Before We Leave news - A Quick Update!

Hi everyone! I have a couple of small, fun things to tell you today -

Wasteland Patch
We released a major patch for the Wasteland Update last week - you can find the patch notes here. Massive thanks to everyone who reported their feedback, bugs and other issues directly to us or via the Team17 webform <3

Some of you may have noticed that we’re not as active here on the Steam Community Forums as much. While we have indeed been quieter, we still read your comments and posts, and they’re very much appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to talk to us 😊

Before We Leave Wasteland Patch Notes v1.0336

Greetings Peeps!

We come today with news of a new Patch which just launched on Steam for Before We Leave. Thank you for your patience so far!

Check them out below:

Patch Notes:

  • Storage Hub next to a Deep Mine only stores the appropriate single resource
  • In a game with Starting Pollution set, tiles won't instantly turn to Toxic on settling on a new Island
  • Only show the "Port is nearly full" notification if the Port is actually nearly full (it used to also count resources that were on their way to the island on Ships, but had not yet arrived - which was confusing)
  • In a game that has Smart Shipping enabled, loading hints about the old Shipping Lanes no longer shows
  • Removed text from Research Institute technology description about not needing Libraries on all islands, as you don't need that now
  • Fixed a bug when generating a new game with Starting Pollution, that was setting pollution values incorrectly for placed-at-start Toxic Wastelands
  • Fixed a couple of bugs around loading/saving games containing Reclamation Spires
  • Fixed a bug where researching Packing multiple times would cause Warehouses and Storage Hubs to store way more resources than they should
  • In Smart Shipping, Space Port islands set to Fill (or a large desired amount) will start shipping the resource to other Islands on the Planet once they reach 1/3 full, so that sub-Islands don't get starved of resources
  • Fixed an issue that was causing Smart Shipping to completely halt in certain situations when you upgrade a Port (or Space Port or Air Port)
  • Changing the Recipe on an upgraded Building will cause attached Storage Hubs to properly evaluate what they should now be storing
  • Fixed notifications for finishing Repeatable Research
  • Added Adjacency Bonus display for buildings affected by Workshop Hubs
  • Changed Irrigation upgrades to require Electronics instead of Gadgets
  • Did a bunch of tweaks to improve Smart Shipping especially around shipping between Planets as per community feedback; thank you everyone!
  • Fixed an issue that didn't unlock Decontaminator technology if your first encounter with Toxic tiles was landing on an Island that already had one
  • Irrigation technology now unlocks the Electronics Mine
  • Fixed a bug that could cause Peeps to stop fetching resources
  • Fixed a couple of other internal things

Before We Leave Hotfix v1.0330

Greetings Peeps

We come today with news of a Hotfix which just launched on Steam for Before We Leave.

It contains the below fixes.


  • User save data does not appear in the 'Load game' menu when accessing Steam Cloud data on different machines
  • No End User License Agreement is displayed upon attempting to progress past the boot flow for the first time

Wasteland Update fixes in Experimental Beta Branch

Happy Friday everyone!

We've had reports of some issues with The Wasteland Update and are in the process of fixing them. If you're keen to try these changes asap, please opt-in to our Experimental Beta Branch.

IMPORTANT NOTE: These fixes have not been through formal QA, so they may not be complete, or may have caused other issues! Also, we're working on a few more things before we submit this for proper QA and release processing 🙂

How to enable the Experimental Beta Branch
If you've decided to jump in and play the Beta, here's how you can access it -

1) Right click on Before We Leave in your Steam library, then go to Properties.
2) In the menu, mouse down to Beta. Select that - you should now see a drop down menu.
3) Select the experimental branch. Steam will then download the branch.
4) Restart Steam and you should be good to go!

Proceed with caution
Now, before we get to the patch notes, I have a warning and some disclaimers for you;

We make absolutely no guarantees that the version on 'experimental' is bug free. We'll do our best of course, but for example it's possible that saved games on the experimental branch will get broken or become invalid by the time we move a feature to the live game. We also do not guarantee that a feature released to 'experimental' won't then get removed again! Games saved in the Experimental branch will not load (or even be listed) if you go back to the live game. They should work fine when the main branch is updated, though.

TL:DR - When you opt in to this, please do so with caution!

If you're using the 'experimental' branch and encounter an issue, you can use the in-game feedback form by pressing F11. Note that this submits a game-specific log file and also some basic stats about your computer hardware each time you use it, but doesn't submit any personally identifiable information - so if you want us to follow up with you about something you submit, you need to let us know how in the feedback text! You can also let us know what bugs you encounter in the comments here, or by popping over to our Discord server.

One more thing - new/changed text in the 'experimental' branch is only in English. Translation to the other languages we support is something that happens towards the end of the development process for each update.
