Behind the Horizon

Patch Notizen V3.65

Game

Optimization of the code for sorting items into the network of crafting chests, which previously led to a short pause in the game, especially with a large number of chests.

Many small improvements in the DLC The Sky Fortress. Including dialogs, cutscenes, quest items that are difficult to discover, etc..

Some active volcanoes (with flames) you could destroy with the pickaxe (with unpredictable consequences), which is no longer possible. However, the small passive volcanoes can be hacked open as before to create lava fields.

The toolbox in the tutorial can now be picked up without an axe

Some info texts have been added to items and tools.

A missing greeting from an NPC has been added.

In the DLC The Sky Fortress, the chickens no longer wanted to lay eggs. This has been fixed.

Fixed the walking animation of an NPC.

Patch Notes V3.64

Game:

The teleport stone in the DLC The Desert now always leads to a field in the settlement, as the stone circle is far outside and the paths are too long as a result.

In the DLC The Desert and also later in the game, you can now place a magic fountain directly on a water gutter or water gutter crossing. The magic fountain will then fill the entire connected network of water gutters with water once every night, provided it still has enough water. This saves the player from having to tip endless buckets of water into the water gutter :-) !

In newly built stables there is now a sign that shows how many animals are housed in the stable (hold right mouse button to read). This change affects newly started games or savefiles that have not yet been updated to V3.6.

The name of the “Shield” spell has been changed to “Shield Spell”, as this makes it clearer that it is a spell and cannot be confused with a real shield.

When building paths, tree seeds are now also automatically removed when the path is laid. The reason for this is that the seeds on paths are often difficult to recognize and should be removed during road construction quests. This was unnecessarily difficult when they were hard to see, especially on small screens.

Graphics:

Flat objects (pictures/carpets) were sometimes displayed incorrectly and then strangely overlapped large objects on the same field. This has been fixed. This means you can now actually place a carpet under a statue ;-) !

Bugs:

The growth spell had incorrectly calculated the lifespan of seeds that became plants. This has been corrected.

In rare cases there was an error when starting the DLC the Sky Fortress, which could lead to a division by zero after a few days (= game crash). This has been fixed. Those affected should simply restart the DLC. After that everything works as intended.

After cutscenes, the player's active light spell was always deleted, which was annoying in the caves, especially before boss fights. This has been fixed.

NPCs and animals forgot their walking animation on bridges. This has been fixed.

Patch Notes V3.63

Game:

The plant feeling info window has been changed so that in case of deficiencies it only shows that growth is stagnating. Only when the plant or tree is about to die (2 or 5 days) due to deficiencies will the exact remaining days be displayed. The reason for this is that some players were very irritated by the display “dies in XX days”! As temperature and light differences occur again and again, it is normal for a plant to stagnate in growth for a day, even if the conditions are mostly good. The new display makes it clearer when action is really needed.

Bugs:
In the DLC The Desert, the volcanoes erupted far too rarely due to a recent update in the game. This has been fixed.

At the start of the DLC The Desert there was no lava eruption, which prolongs the start of the game there.

A serious bug has also crept in when destroying the portals with bombs in the DLC The Desert. This has greatly increased the number of bombs required, which was never intended. Now everything works as planned.

Patchnotes V3.62

Game:

The reminder quest for the summer festival now displays an info text at the beginning of the day, just like the auctions, so that you don't miss the event.

The Growth spell no longer works on dead plants or plants that do not grow at all during the season. For plants that do not bloom during the season, it only allows the plant to grow to the ‘fully grown’ stage.

Algae are now completely harvested during the picking process.

With the magic basket and the magic sickle, it is now sufficient for a plant in the harvesting area (3x3 fields) to be ripe in order to use the tool. Previously, you always had to centre the area on a plant that was ready for harvesting. Any information such as (germinates in X days) still only refers to the selected field.

After a time jump at a shrine, the collected info texts for natural events and other things that were spent in time and are no longer important are now deleted.

Bugs:

The icon for the algae oil recipe was displayed incorrectly in the shop and inventory. This has been corrected.

Gypsies were coming to Woddhome every day for up to a month after a world event without bringing their stall. This has been fixed.

The animation of lightning attacks on dragons and the lightning spell from the desert DLC still had the wrong animation. This has been changed.

The Destroy Vines of Death spell was not restoring the ground minimap correctly. This has been fixed

In the last update, a bug had crept in with the gifts from the NPCs to the player, which meant that you repeatedly did not receive a gift, although this was announced! This has been fixed.

Patch Notes V3.61

Game:

All reminders of one-time events (cutscenes) are now in the side quests section, while the hints section is now only for the annual festivals and events and for info about merchants. This should be clearer.

Bugs:

The lava plant seeds no longer wanted to germinate on the lava due to lack of water. This is now working properly again.

The icon of the fire magnet spell was not displayed correctly in all three levels. This has been fixed.

Content Update V3.6

Highlights:

There are two new questlines and new cutscenes centred around the construction of two new buildings in Woodhome. The new buildings are two museums one for gems and one for farming for the community in Woodhome. There are numerous great rewards for completing the collections. Contact person is Eugenia after the initial cutscene with Nira and Tom after the Museum of Agriculture was opened.

A gypsy family regularly visits Woodhome and sets up their stand in front of Tiffany's café. They offer goods that cannot be bought anywhere else. However, the selection and quantity is limited and varies with each visit. The contact person for the introductory quest is Tiffany after you have had breakfast with her.

Introduction of two new crafting stations. The first is the cheese press and the second is the loom. Both are used to process animal products. There are also numerous new recipes and plans. The construction plans for the crafting stations are available from Till the carpenter and Alfed and Magda.

Algae are making their way into Behind the Horizon. Algae can be planted and harvested, but they also grow wild and share the ponds with the fish. Recipes for food with algae have also been added.

The beehive has been added to the game. Placed near blooming flowers, it collects honey on its own, which only needs to be harvested.

3 new harvesting tools have been added. The magic harvesting basket, the magic harvesting sickle and the seaweed net. The first two are rewards in the museums, while the seaweed net can be bought from Alfred and Magda.

Salt has been added as a raw material for some new recipes. Salt can be found from time to time in stone deposits. There is also a crystal salt mine somewhere north of Woodhome that is waiting to be discovered.

The textures of all paths in the game have been greatly improved and now blend in much better with the landscape. Some plant growth cycles have also been embellished.
When building paths, only paths that can be laid and that harmonize with each other in terms of colour are now built next to each other. Otherwise, they have an border between them, which makes the transition visually more beautiful.

Farm plants and ground cover plants that consistently grow without a deficiency now have the chance to produce more or return seeds more often. It is therefore worth making sure that all plants lack nothing!

The player chests now have 10 instead of 5 different colours, which can be selected in the chests menu. In addition, the appearance of the chest has been changed.
All existing hardwood chests in the game score are converted to normal wooden chests when the update is started and the colour is reset.
The former hardwood chest becomes a transparent chest, which is considerably larger and, in addition to the 10 different colours, displays the first item in the chest on the chest. The blueprint for this chest is given to the player directly by Wilfried in the tutorial for a new game. For current games, a blueprint is placed inside the farm.
I hope that these measures will lead to a really organised storage system for all items in the game.
The farm overview (CTRL) has been completely redesigned and, like the plant info on the farm, can now also be activated and deactivated directly in the quick bar using two new buttons.

A new element spell called Fire Magnet has been added. You can buy the formulas from Niall in his shop. The fire magnet draws all monsters in the environment that have no shock resistance to a point and burns them.

All changes are listed below in the patch notes. Additionally in the ‘Updates 3.xx’ section of the in game manual you will find all the information about the Update.

There is also a video on my YouTube channel that briefly introduces the updates V3.1 - V3.6. However, it is currently only available in German: LINK VIDEO

Have fun!

Patch Notes V3.6:

Game:

Two new quest lines with cutscenes in Woodhome

Two museums invite you to collect and offer great rewards early on in the game. You can place the items on the tables or select them from the toolbar and place them on the table with the right mouse button, just like when feeding or giving presents. If you do not have a suitable item active in the quick bar, you can use the right mouse button to view an overview of the table under the mouse arrow. There you can see exactly what you need and what rewards are available for the table, table group or the entire museum.

New items:
- the magic harvest basket - if possible, it harvests an area of 3x3 fields at once.
- the magic sickle - it harvests an area of 3x3 squares at a time if possible.
- the algae net, which is used to harvest algae in the water. It has a range of 3 fields so that you can harvest not only on the shore.

The price calculation for farm plants, their products and the seeds and pots is now standardised (i.e. fully calculated) and is based on the growing period and the difficulty of growing the plant (soil, temperature and light requirements). This measure also means that the prices of the dishes change slightly. Overall, however, the balance is greatly improved and it is always worth growing every plant.
The prices for wild herbs remain unchanged, as they are easy to collect in large quantities in the wild.

A crystal salt mine has been added to the world map. New salt crystals are slowly forming around the mine.

Salt can now also be found in stone deposits from time to time.

New transparent player chest that displays the first item in the chest on the chest itself.

Stable buildings now contain destructible side walls (from the outside with the axe with the axe). This makes it easier for the animals to find their way back into the barn if you build the barn inside an enclosure, which means that the animals can graze around the barn. However, if the walls have been destroyed, they can no longer be rebuilt. As an alternative solution, crates can be placed close together in the gap. However, this change only affects newly built stables

Truffle pigs can now also be accommodated in stables for sheep and pigs.

The two incredible stables that you can buy from Nira after completing her quest series now have their own look and have a hay rack and light.

Premium plants (without growth deficiencies) have been added to the game. These plants give either more harvest or more seeds. They are marked with a yellow star in the plant info window and in the farm overview.

4 types of algae that can be planted in pond water or river water have been added.

New recipes for algae dishes and for the cheese press have been added (snacks section in the cooking menu)

Added cheese press and loom crafting stations with plans for building.

Added new plans for the loom (Setup section in the Build menu)

The available and required ingredients are now displayed in the building, magic and cooking menus. For the available ingredients, all nearby crafting chests are also taken into account. This provides an overview of how many raw materials you still have of each type. Chests that are not marked as crafting chests are ignored.

The crafting menus now show whether the right crafting station for the recipe or plan is within reach.

The farm overview (CTRL) has been redesigned and made clearer.

There are two new buttons in the quick bar that can be used to switch the farm overview and the plant info (display deficiency states for plants + animal names) on and off. The old function using the CTRL key with subsequent display of the plant info is retained. In addition, the plant info overview is also always displayed automatically when you use the skill Feel plants. The overview will switch off again automatically after a while.

Two new tutorial texts have been added for the two new buttons in the quickbar. As always, these can be switched off in the settings.

The range of all harvesting tools (harvesting basket, sickle and ladder) increases with better quality, so that you can harvest plants and trees in a larger radius without moving.

The good water bucket now also has a longer reach than the normal water bucket. In addition, when used with the ALT button, it can still water 9 fields at once (requires 9 water buckets, of course).

In Story Mode, the damage from poison fields and the burn and freeze effect is now also reduced. However, the damage from fire fields and lava remains, as these may often not be crossed.

The link to the FAN Wiki has been added and can be opened with F2 in the browser (is also displayed when starting the game)

Destroy death vines spell: When the spell version is loaded, the map is now also updated in the entire cleared area. This makes it easier to see where vines of death might still be hiding.

The Pumpkin Cheese Soup recipe has been changed and now requires cow's milk cheese and provides significantly more food and energy.

The prices for some rare wild herbs and mushrooms have been greatly increased, so that gathering them is now more fun.

The prices for many formulas have been lowered to improve the balance.

The ingredients for the Ice Rain and Fire Rain spells have been greatly simplified to make them easier to create.

The Fire Magnet spell has been added with formula and charge/overcharge ability. The formula is available from Niall in the shop. The spell pulls enemies together at the point of its release and damages them with a fire explosion. Only monsters with strong shock resistance can escape.

The tooltips in the character menu now also display the abbreviations (tootip) used in the game for the character values.

In the character menu, the maximum values for magic and awareness have been removed, as they are unchanged and only led to misunderstandings.

There is now an information area in the crafting and chests menu that displays a tooltip when you hover over it with the mouse arrow. The tooltip tells you everything about the simplified operation of these menus. This function can be switched off in the settings with all other tutorial tooltips.

An animated exclamation mark now appears at the hay rack, beehive and feed dispenser when the hay rack or feed dispenser is empty or the honey needs to be harvested.

Fire and ice rain have been added to the spells that can be triggered with the Q key (quick bar last field with blue frame).

Fences and walls can now be built further away from the player. This means that the player is not constantly in the way.

Quests for festivals, auctions or other annual events are only displayed as flags on the map if they have been marked as "active" in the diary. This measure creates more clarity on the map about the tasks that are still open.

Various info texts for items have been completed in both English and German.

Bugs:

The order of building a stable has been changed, because otherwise in rare cases an animal or the player could get stuck.

An incorrect item was given to the player in the Monster Hell rewards. This has been fixed.

In some game states since the introduction of the new farm areas, the first chest on the farm no longer worked as a crafting chest. This has been fixed and should now work in all game states.

Instructions:

Added new functions and added the section Update V3.6.

Spring update for Behind the Horizon

It's almost time again! In a few weeks the new version V3.6 will be released on Steam and it will be a big update. Actually almost a DLC in terms of content ... and completely free for you :-) !

Besides the usual balancing and small changes in the gameplay, there will be new NPCs, new quests, new buildings in Woodhome, new plants, a new spell and much more.

I'm already looking forward to presenting the update to you.
The release will be between the end of February and the beginning of March, just before the next Steam Sale event. If you don't have the game or the DLCs yet, you can buy everything together with a discount :-) !

Patch notes V3.51

Game

Added a shadow (3x3) under giant trees to show the area where the light intensity is reduced. The effects of magic shadows and light crystals have also been made visible. The old version, where all light was reduced or increased when standing on a field with a light crystal, has been removed. This has also slightly increased the luminosity of colours throughout the game.

More rewards for completing the Monster Hell have been added.

The recipe for the light harvest ladder has been changed so that you can build the ladder earlier in the game.

Bugs

The option to travel to the Monster Hell was offered by the game a little too early, as in the unlikely event that you master Monster Hell at this point of the main quest, an NPC will no longer be available later. The corresponding quest is now only available later.

Update V3.5 - content update

Highlights:

- 1 new annual village festival in Woodhome
- the truffle pig including 3 new recipes using truffles
- the story mode for ‘combat grouches’, which makes fighting in the caves even easier
- the option to vary the length of the day
- a new plant: the honeydew melon

- plus the usual improvements and bug fixes, which you can read about in detail in the patch notes below.

Patchnotes V3.5

Game:

Another annual village festival in Woodhome has been added to the game: the spring flower festival. The contact person for this is Tiffany.

Introduction of the story mode, which can be activated at any time in the options. Story mode makes fighting in the caves much easier. Note: Survival and Story Mode cannot be combined.

Introduction of the option to change the length of the day between normal and slow in the options at any time. With ‘slow’, a day lasts about twice as long as with ‘normal’.

The truffle pig enters the world of Behind the Horizon and starts digging for truffles in wooded areas.
Information about the truffle pig can be found in the in-game instructions and in the game as a book (available from Alfred and Magda)
3 new truffle-related recipes have been added to Emma's inventory and are waiting to be tried out.

The sun-loving honeydew melon has been added to the game. You can get seeds and young plants in the Oasis in Melvin's shop.

The marker on the map can now be deleted not only by SHIFT + right-clicking, but also by simply right-clicking on the old marker.

In addition, the direction to the marker (if you are in the same region - world or caves) is displayed at the bottom right of the quick bar. The arrows for the active quest (if available) and the arrow to the marker are superimposed. As usual, the arrow pointing to the quest is green and the arrow pointing to the marker is red. This makes it easy to track both destinations.

Farm animals such as pigs or cows can now also be sold as adults. However, young specimens are more valuable.

Seeds now need a minimum of water in the soil in order to develop. They encapsulate themselves in dry soil and wait.

Bugs:

When a frog was caught and released several times, it could turn into a cow. It was supposed to become a prince, but as this was not possible, it now remains a frog ;-) !

Capturing butterflies was not intended and had unforeseen consequences. This has also been repaired.

Pigs no longer dig up or improve the ground under paths

A command in the cutscene scripting language had mysteriously deleted itself, causing some cutscenes in the DLCs to be cancelled prematurely. This should now work again.

Dialogues:

Some missing words in the German dialogues have been added.

Instructions:

Some information has been added or changed.
