Between the Stars is 55% funded!
Before we start we want to specially thank everyone who is supporting us on Kickstarter! Between the stars is currently at 55% of the final objective! We’ve overcome our first stretch of the way, but we have the final sprint now. We’ll keep working hard to ensure you get the best experience possible!
Many players of the demo have shared their feedback and opinions. We assure you that we are taking all of it into consideration in order to make the game beat your expectations. Remember that you can leave your questions, opinions and suggestions in our Discord channel.
We want to showcase some of the best pictures that the community has shared in our networks using the photo mode:
We also want to mention the launch of the game Nimbatus, made by our friends at Stray Fawn Studio.
Nimbatus - The Space Drone Constructor is an action-packed simulation game. Craft drones out of hundreds of different parts and explore a destructible, procedurally generated galaxy. Build autonomous drones to fight against other players' creations. Do you have what it takes to become a drone engineer?
If you have played the prologue the harder mode will be unlocked. You'll find this mode really challenging. You’ll start the prologue with a poorly experienced captain and crew and with a ship with less equipment.
Your enemies will have better ships, better crew and they’ll be more! And prepare the medic bay because your crew will suffer more wounds.
To conmemorate the occasion of the launch of the demo of Between the Stars and our Kickstarter we will be launching a screenshot contest. From today on you can upload your photos with the hashtags #BetweenTheStars and #Photomode. In order to take a photo in-game, press the P key.
The three best photos will be added as a loading screen with a mention to their creator. The best photo will win a copy of Between the Stars.
The winners will be decided on next monday 24/9.

Announcing Kickstarter campaign and demo date!
Greetings captains:
After weeks of arduous work, we can be more precise regarding a few of the new additions and key dates of “Between the Stars”.
We are happy to announce that we have set Kickstarter's campaign date. It will go live on September 12th, on the same day we will also release a demo.
This demo will serve as a prologue of the storyline in the game. You will take control of Captain Scott and his crew in order to experience the events that will trigger the war to control the Universe. In this demo, you will find two playable ships, a pletora of events and impressive battles.
During the Kickstarter campaign we will perform a weekly contest for screenshots with the ingame photography system. Each week we will choose the three best screenshots, which will be added to the finished game as loading screens crediting their author. The first place of each week will get a free copy of the game on release day.
Some of the new additions we have implemented for this demo are:
-Upgrade on the ship damage system: you can destroy different parts of the ship now.
-Visual rework on the stations: they are bigger and their details are more polished.
-We have fixed some critical bugs.
-Implemented a new skill panel.
-Added a transmission system inside the game.
Excited yet? More news to come! For now, just remember the date: September 12th, 2018. Kickstarter will go live!
Prepare for the new demo and ships!
Every now and then we receive messages from the community, eager to go out to space and start living adventures. Our team is working really hard to make this possible and for that end we want to announce that we will release a demo that will help you learn about all the game system and the world of BTS. When playing it, you will experience the adventures of Captain Scott and its crew around two playable sectors full of events.
While you are at it, we keep working hard on updates, many of them will be available in the next beta:
• New boarding system for abandoned ships: There are many abandoned ships scattered around “Between the Stars” universe. All of them will offer the option to explore them in search of treasure fitting for the most intrepid captains. These boardings will be an specific event generated dynamically. The more you advance in your exploration the bigger the chance to obtain higher rewards, as long as you make it out alive. Will you risk your crew in hopes of a nice extra? Or will you play it safe and be content with the scraps easily accessible? Your call.
• New playable ships: We keep increasing the ammount of ships available in the game. These are some of our new additions:
XJ-443
A S Class space cruiser with great agility and combat speed. Its hull has little resistance and it has small capacity for shields, so it is not suited for short range combat. However, its ability to sneak pass enemies has made it quite popular between armies and smugglers alike. Ideal for captains that enjoy infiltrating the most hidden places of the galaxy.
CW-953
The CW-953 is a C Class cruiser, usually employed to transport middle size loads in dangerous zones. With its nine engines it is able to obtain a good acceleration despite the weight of the ship and its cargo. It is an old model but still widely employed, some pirates like to take advantadge of its size to modify it adding more weapons. Thanks to its constitution and size, it works pretty well as a shield.
CW-453W
The CW-453W is a C Class cruiser versatile and well-balanced. Its cheap manufacture cost makes it one of the most common ships in the Republic fleet. It also offers spacious room for crew and cargo. One of its weak points is its lack of agility and acceleration. It works just fine in static long distance fights.
KP-564SC
The crown jewel and the ship you will play in the demo, this last generation SC Class cruiser is one of the most advanced ships of the whole Republic Armada. It boast of a great firepower and a formidable defense thanks to its reinforced hull and its powerful shields. The few available units of this model are reserved to captains that have an astonishing battle experience or a high rank. So if you are commanding one... congratulations.
•Photography system: Use the camera to your liking and configure its parameters so you can obtain the most amazing picture. Download them directly to your computer or share them with your friends through the Steam screenshot share system.
• Interface redesign: We are working on a new interface version more friendly and with a better integration, this design will be available in the demo. Greetings, captains!
Let's talk about Navigation and Space Stations
Greetings, Spacefarers!
This week we are exploring navigation through the universe of Between the Stars, as well as the benefits to be found at friendly space stations throughout your travels.
The universe of Between the Stars is a huge place, and navigating that space effectively will be a part of managing your ship and progressing in your missions. In the vastness of space, you can opt to either cruise along at a leisurely pace, or utilize quantum navigation. Quantum navigation allows you to jump across large expanses of space very quickly, but beware. You will not be able to maneuver as quickly or effectively at that speed, and you will need to be aware of your surroundings as you complete your jump.
In addition to traveling within an area, you will also need to travel between sectors as you explore. Sectors are the largest divisible zones in the game, and require you to select them from your map. This will engage warp travel and take you to very distant areas.
As you travel, you will find space stations, derelict ships, and more. Space stations allow you to access a number of services in exchange for payment, and are an important part of the game. They offer vital services to your ship:
Hire new crew: You can hire new crew to replenish your ranks if your ship has suffered losses, or simply to complete your roster.
Buying and selling: The shop allows you to buy and sell weapons, shields, blueprints, and devices.
Acquiring contracts: You can take on new missions that will reward experience, money, and other rewards.
Repairs: If your ship has been damaged in combat, you can repair it to maximum health, including the shields and hull.
Stashing loot: The station will allow you to store loot between playthroughs, in case of death or ending the game.
After a restful stop at the Station, you will return to encountering enemy ships. These offer a chance to acquire loot chests, which can be a variety of rarity types. Rarity will determine what kind of reward the chest will contain. These can be opened or stored at a Station, to open for future games. Whether you stash them or open them can be an important decision both for your current and future missions.
We thank you for reading, and look forward to sharing more in next week’s Spacefarer Gazette! If you don’t want to wait, you can catch our team in our community Discord server!
