Beyond Despair

DESOLATE’s Closed Beta is finally underway!

Hey there, Volunteers!

We’re proud to say that DESOLATE’s Closed Beta is finally underway!

For now, it is only available to Steam users who previously owned Beyond Despair - so, if you’re one of the lucky ones, here’s detailed instructions on how to become a part of the Closed Beta:

1. Visit this link: http://desolate.game/steamkey/index.php
2. Enter your log-in and password if prompted - make sure that you log into the account that has purchased Beyond Despair
3. Voila! The website will automatically generate you a unique key for the Closed Beta, which will automatically turn into the full game on release!

The Closed Beta includes the Prologue and Act 1 and 2 of the game’s story, out of 3 Acts currently planned.

All of the core in-game mechanics are present and working, though please keep in mind that some of the aspects of the game are still being tuned and polished (the HUD and map for example).

If you experience any technical mishaps during the Beta or have any other feedback, join special sub-forum here:

http://steamcommunity.com/app/671510/discussions/6/

and join a discord channel: https://discord.gg/AVfvuzj

This way we’ll be able to trace all of the bugs and errors and fix them in time for the full release!

Thank you so much for your attention and support - and we sincerely hope you’ll enjoy the Beta and have a good time with it!

Best Regards,
NEARGA Development Team

Status Update!

Greetings, Volunteers! We’ve received a lot of questions and comments from our community after our latest post; and I think now we’re ready to address some of them:

1. Part of our development team is now working on a new project, a game called DESOLATE. This game is being published by HypeTrain Digital, and part of the work that was done during BD’s development is going to be used in it.
2. We fully intend to supply all owners of Beyond Despair with access to the new game.
3. DESOLATE is not the same game with a different title; it’s a brand new game with unique features and content.
Development would take us somewhere around 5-6 months, during which every aspect of the current game will be improved and/or changed, according to the new concept.
4. The game will be localised in all of the major languages, including Russian.

The important thing right now is not to rush to any conclusions. Unfortunately, we’re not always able to give out all the details at once.

As for now, we’re in the middle of preparing for a huge announcement - so stay tuned!

Important Announcement!

Greetings, volunteers. Beyond Despair development team is here, and we have an announcement to make.

Unfortunately, we’re temporarily putting the development of Beyond Despair on hold. One of the main reasons for this is our current financial situation, which was one of the reasons we decided to enter Early Access - which did not pay off as well as we expected. It’s important to note at this point that all owners of Beyond Despair will remain in your Library, which means you can access the game and continue exploring Ansora and its mysteries any time you want.

Right now we’re actively searching for ways to continue development and to keep our team together. We’ve come a long way since we started developing Beyond Despair - and we still have tons of ideas and features yet to be implemented. Leaving all of this work behind would be devastating, and we’re doing our best to prevent that.

A lot of time has passed since we entered Early Access back in January, and community’s attention and support is still one of the main reasons for us to keep going. Of course, we made mistakes with BD - but that’s something that can’t be avoided, especially with our first project. We’d like to once again thank you all for your support and feedback, that you left throughout Beyond Despair’s development cycle.

Despite all that, all of us at Heatherglade and PixelMate strongly believe that you’ll hear from us once more. Our story is just beginning.

Update 0.8.0.0

1. In this patch we introduce new armor and equipment: first one will be a leather jacket. You can make it when you find a blueprint.

2. Version 0.8.0.0 is the base for crafting and loot system remake. There are many changes planned and here is what we have done already.

Cooking:

• We add pot and pan as a requirement to cook most of the food.
• All ingredients have a category now. For example cucumber is in vegetables category.
• Cooked food gives a lot more nutrition.

Crafting items:

• We introduce different tiers of tool sets which you need for crafting most of the items.

Loot:

• There is no trash anymore. All the objects can be used, you decide which one you recycle and which you can use later.
• Peaceful creatures always give meat and leather. You can get leather only hunting animals.
• You can find cloth only on madmen.
• Chance to find food is decreased.

3. Level Design:

• Part of the island received optimization changes.
• Several updates of the southern part of the island.

4. Sound:
• Bugfixes.
• New nature sounds (birds, wind, etc.).
• Improved footstep sounds.
• Updated radio.

5. Creatures:

• Gangs of marauders occupied some of the locations on the island.

Main purpose of these changes is to make crafting more interesting and effective. It provides you with more powerful items then you get from exploring.

Hunting creatures becomes more important too. There is less food and you should hunt animals to solve the lack of food.

Good luck on Ansora, volunteer!

Steam page update — trailer, screenshots, description

Beyond Despair continues its way to release.

Early access started four months ago. Since that time we have made 26 updates and hotfixes which have changed a lot of things in the game. We hope those changes made the game much better.

There are many more changes planned for the game and we don't want to stop, on the contrary we will work even harder to make BD even more enjoyable before full release.

Volunteers, we want to thank you all. Your praise and critisism, ideas and attention to our project are great motivation for the team. Without your help and support it could be much more difficult for us.

Today we have updated our Steam page: new trailer, screenshots and description. Now it shows the game in its current state and might help some of our players decide to buy the game if they were not sure about the future of the project.

Update 0.7.0.2

This week we had a radio contact with Alex Bers. He told us that he had been living on Ansora for several years, even before the disaster. He learned a lot during his life on the island and now he wants to share his expirience with volunteers. You can find many stashes all over the island (twenty five places) , just exploring or after you read his notes.

There are also some other changes:

1) Anomalies: changes to the gravity anomaly (it should be more visible) and blood fog (it should be less visible now).
2) Bugfixes: fixed a bug with -1 durability of quest rewards.
3) Locations: several bugfixes; rework of farms in the northern part of the island.

Good luck on Ansora!

P.S. We know about the bug with battery during the quest on Ansora Peak. It will be fixed in the next hotfix.

Hotfix 0.7.0.1

1) Main quest: fixes to subbtitles; changes to descriptions; Frio can be created with a wrench; one of the quest items will get deleted after you don't need it anymore.

2) Leveldesign: changes several names of locations; fixed the bug with grass.

3) Sound: fixed a problem with footsteps; rebalanced volume during quest monologues; more sounds in several locations; bug fixes.

Good luck on Ansora, Volunteer!
