Launch day has been delayed to give us time to add one more exciting new feature and you can get the details from our delay announcement. But we still have a very big update for this week with some new weapons, steam achievements, and plenty of bug fixes
We have delayed the launch of Beyond Sol by 2 weeks to the 13th of October 2015. This may disappoint some of you but it is actually good news since it gives us more time to fix some additional bugs that have popped up. In addition, we are bringing in an exciting new feature, Dreadnaughts, that was originally planned to be released post-launch.
This week was all about pushing towards the final release of the game by adding missing content, completing features, and improving the overall gameplay experience. We are very excited to release Cryos corporation to the game, which should give you lots of new ways to take over the solar system!
Another awesome gameplay feature has been released this week: passive ship upgrades! This allows you to customize your loadout even further. Combined with the new player ships released last week, you should have a lot of flexibility in choosing a ship and loadout that fits your playstyle.
This week we added one of our most requested features: new player ships! Unlock three new ship types, each with its own distinct playstyle, upgrade them, and find an equipment loadout that maximizes their potential. We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Prepare to build, fight, or create alliances to achieve total victory over your opponents! This week we added victory conditions to the game, so choose your path carefully or a rival city could be named supreme leader of your solar system.
This update also marks the beginning of our Beta phase of development. Nearly all major features are in, so we will be putting more focus on bug fixing and balance in the coming weeks in preparation for the game’s final release. But don’t worry, we still have some exciting new features to add soon!
We are pleased to announce that Beyond Sol will depart Early Access September 29th 2015. Tomorrow’s update (0.9.0) will be our first Beta update on the road to the final game so all the future updates will include the necessary bug fixes and features we know you want to call the game final. But final isn’t really “final” as we plan to continue with our weekly update process after launch to throw in some awesome bonus features. We’ll also be increasing the price of Beyond Sol on September 29th so if you’ve been on the fence waiting for the game to be finished you still have a few weeks to pick it up at the Early Access rate.
A major new feature, defense fleets, was added this week that could change the way you and the AI play the game. Also, over the next few weeks we will be adding new victory conditions to the game. As part of this work, we will be removing the ability to carry credits from game to game through your profile. You will still keep your ship upgrades on your profile, but bringing millions of credits into a new game trivializes the difficulty of the game.
This week’s update features the new military outposts – the key piece of our Warmongers update! This update allows you to build these powerful defensive stations, upgrade them, and use them to claim huge chunks of territory. Stay tuned for next week’s update when we allow you to garrison fleets at these outposts that will fly out to defend nearby sectors.
This update features the first part of the Warmongers update which features a big change to the surrender mechanic that will please many of you. We have removed the forced-surrender feature of the game; AI cities will no longer be able to surrender without your permission. However, if you refuse a surrender and you have 100% war score, you will take reputation penalties from the other cities for being such a warmonger. Let us know what you think of the new balance.
We’ve also significantly increased the damage output of city turrets because they were tickling ships a little too softly.
