Labels added to the controllers.
- The touch pad now has Up, Level, Down.
- Voice commands are listed on the handle: Go, Stop, Up, Level, Down.
And for those that prefer not to use a controller or voice, two docks have been added to the canyon area, allowing you to reach the orb through that mechanism.
2.0 Update Released
This experience has always been a casual VR experience, with a design to really immerse you in an alien world that you can explore without any distractions.
We recently were demonstrating Beyond the Horizon at GE2.Live, and once again, users found it to be comfortable, immersive, and an incredible experience, finding it both exhilarating and relaxing/meditative, depending on their experience and personal interests.
Our hope with this update, is to clearly articulate the experience so it reaches the proper audience. Please see the new description on the store page.
Major changes:
The Nexus (vertical control) has been replaced with the controller. We continuously find users fiddling with the Nexus, instead of being totally immersed in their surroundings. The controller touchpad is setup with 3 areas: Top, middle, bottom, correlating to Up, level, down.
Note: Up & down only have one speed, so pressing it multiple times will not make you go any faster.
The other big change is where you start. You now begin in the lake area.
The start screen transition has also changed to better align with the experience.
We are also exploring voice commands to control the platform. We consider voice as a preview feature at this time. Here are the commands you can use for a controllerless experience:
'Up', 'level', 'down', controls your vertical movement.
'Stop' will allow you to hold the platform in its current position.
'Go' will start the platform moving again.
1.1.2 Update
- The platform now fits between the lamp and the tree trunk, left of the cavern entrance.
- Added a missing collider.
1.1.1 Update
- We modified the UI text, hopefully making it easier for first time users.
- Performance improvements.
- Transition time from start screen to normal play cut in half.
- Nexus now has an audible pitch change when moving up/down.
1.1.0 Significant Update
You can now explore the whole interior, from floor to ceiling, and discover each nook and cranny.
- Total revamp of vertical control. The touchpad is no longer used. We are introducing the Nexus. It is a node that you move up or down with your controller. The Nexus has visual and audible feedback to help with navigation.
- Two information panels have been added to help first time users.
- Beyond the Horizon only uses one controller to start the experience and to control the Nexus. No controller is necessary once you lift off the tiny island and away from your lifeboat.
- Added loading screen to PC, for people watching someone else play.
