PATCH NOTES
Map - Duplicate rooms are now much rarer, the map generation system will always try to use an unused room type if it can - Updated the colours of the pick from 3 shrines so it's clearer at a glance that the two are different and have different effects - Added a torch to one of the forest rooms to help out in rare situations where the player's bullets are too wonky to hit the switches properly - Tiles in front of sara's altar will now distort during the storm
Enemies & Hazards - New enemy variations added - small poison bats and large fire bats - Removed explosion damage on player from bomb bees - Slowed down the projectiles that fire out from Bomb Bees - Fixed issue where the Imp enemy could teleport to an unreachable part of the map in one of the temple rooms. - Fixed a bug where lasers would trigger switches every frame they hit them
Upgrades, Superpowers & Throwable Items - Spirit bullets now applies to lasers as well as walls and enemies - Barricade (shield bullet upgrade) now works on the bullets that fly out of toxic enemies on death - Spirit bullets now takes priority over bouncing bullets - After you use a throwable item (torch, bomb, etc), the next time you toggle your held item you will automatically go back to your main bullet weapon - You can no longer toggle your held item while shooting or using your superpower - Decreased the mouse scroll wheel sensitivity when toggling your held items - Fixed spirit protectors destroying on objects that don't deal damage - Fixed a bug where the thrown bird would get stuck in certain rooms and not be able to escape [13:29] UI - Allow players to quickly start a new run from the end screen and skip the animations - Fixed bug where the pop up UI would flicker on and off without showing the popup text after dialogue - Fixed pick from 3 menu occasionally updating to show a higher level than your current upgrade level if you moused over the button during the selection animation - Reduced the range of the brightness setting in the options menu to avoid players getting a pitch black screen
Characters - Fixed a bug where the first item in Eebi's shop after finding and engraving all of the moo-tivational quotes wouldn't be free - Cows that spawn in the wild will always be one you haven't discovered before now (unless you have discovered all of them, when it will be random) - Fixed a bug where the player was able to move and open menus during the cow petting animation - Fixed the cow shaun having the wrong hat in their dialogue box
Audio - Fixed the mole sleeping sound getting stuck on after the mole was destroyed - Fixed the wrong biome music playing in the first room of a new biome - Fixed the wrong layer of the temple combat music intro being ducked when the storm is nearby - New emotes for the Pilgrim - Tweaks to annoying child's loud shout emote - New sound when shields recharge - Mix tweaks

A new secret has been added to the game, and the first 5 people to discover it can win a free key for the game. Simply find the secret, take a screenshot and let us know in the "Secret Hunting Challenges" channel in our Discord. Look for the text that says "You found a secret". If you get stuck, remember that the Unfolding Stories section of your journal may help guide you to the answer.

PATCH NOTES
New Features: - Added the Forbidden Temple - Added new NPC - The Pilgrim - Superpower: Short-lived Immortality has changed to - "Become immune for a short period of time. While this effect is active, your bullets are additionally affected by your Superpower upgrades." - Added new unfolding stories to the Journal
The storm system has been tweaked to try to reduce situations where you get completely cut off with nowhere to go. The following changes have been made: - The storm will no longer spread into a room containing Bobbins unless the player has discovered that room. - The storm will no longer spread more that one room's height above the player - If the storm is between 3 and 8 rooms away, it will only spread to rooms in the player's direction. - Slightly increased the maximum spread rate of the storm to balance out these changes.

The Beyond The Long Night demo is now playable as part of Steam Next Fest!
We're thrilled to get this out there - a brand new demo with more content, including 16 new upgrades, four new super powers, shrines that allow you to pick between three different upgrades and much, much more!
But that is not all! We have also hidden an item within the Next Fest demo which you will be able to find by paying close attention to the in game journal - and the first five people to take a screenshot upon obtaining it and putting it in the "Hidden-Item-Challenge" channel in the Beyond the Long Night Discord will win a copy of the game. We'll also be giving away random copies beyond the initial five, so even if you're late to the demo it's still well worth taking part.

Upgrades/Superpower changes: - Increased the period of immunity after using the pinball superpower, giving the player longer to escape danger if they end up in a bad spot - Laser Focus (clock Superpower) changed to: "Aim and shoot a laser beam that does more damage if multiple enemies are hit at once. Time is slowed while aiming." - Passive and superpower shields changed to: "Generate a shield that wears off after a short period of time and breaks upon taking damage. Recharging your superpower will also extend the life of the shield." The base time the shield is active has been drastically reduced - Self Destruct changed to: "Blow up one of your balloons, triggering a large, highly damaging explosion. If your health is above 50%, take one damage. If your health is below 50%, deal twice as much damage to enemies." - Increased knockback (wind superpower upgrade) changed to: "Enemy knockback caused by superpowers is increased. To celebrate Dreamhack Beyond's Indie Showcase, we've just launched a huge update to the free demo of Beyond the Long Night. There's a ton of new content to discover - new upgrades to play with, new enemies to contend with, a new game mode that turns up the chaos, and new entries in the journal to fill out.

Features
New game mode Party Hat - Everything gets quicker!
New game mode select screen. Every game mode has a unique hat.
8 new Upgrades, 2 new Superpowers. The Berseker and Bomb categories, themed around high damage at low health, and explosions.
2 new enemies - The Imp and the paradise bird.
2 new bee enemy variations - Poison bees and Bomb bees.
Fire enemies now shoot 3x as many projectiles at once, and explode into flames on death.
Poison enemies are now much faster, shoot much more often, and release poisonous projectiles on death that slow you down. The slow down effect from poisonous enemies has been strengthened.
New unfolding stories with Bobbins, the Annoying Child, Eebi and Umpa.
The first batch of Kickstarter Complimentary Cows are discoverable in game.
Almost double the room variation.
Map generation has been tweaked to create a more maze-like map layout.
Added rubber banding to the storm spreading speed.

Finally, due to big changes with the journal, I unfortunately had to reset everybody's journal save data for this update. This will mean starting again unfortunately - I know this is frustrating and I'm really sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Tiny Teams Festival & demo returning to Steam next week!

Next week is Tiny Teams festival, run by The Yogscast, and I'm really honoured to have been selected for this year's event!
Tiny Teams is a week long Steam festival, celebrating micro studios with 5 or less developers. There will be some indie classics on sale, as well as free demos for a ton of up-and-coming games across a bunch of different genres.

Demo week! Save and Sound Festival & Develop Indie Showtime

We have an insanely exciting week (Jul 11-18 2022) as we're taking part in two festivals. As you may or not know, Beyond the Long Night is made by a tiny team (one lead developer and two sound designers) so the fact we were selected for these events alongside some amazing other indie games has been incredibly humbling for us.
So to celebrate with you, the demo is going to be available all of this week. Make sure to grab it if you haven't downloaded it before!
Save and Sound festival
We're taking part in the 2022 Save and Sound festival - an online music festival with sales and demos on Steam. Celebrating headbanging soundtracks as well as unique implementations of music and audio in games.
We've prepared a musical deep dive that will be streamed live during the event, and the Beyond the Long Night demo will be returning to Steam. We'll also be streaming full tracks from the Beyond the Long Night soundtrack on our Steam page.
