Biomass Resynced

Greetings and thanks for stopping by!

First of all I wanted to thank everyone for your support of Biomass since its release in 2020, it’s been great to see the game still bringing in new travelers seeking the lighthouse a year and a half since its initial release. The continued interest from all of you is a driving force on some very exciting things to come in 2022 for Biomass that I wanted to talk a bit about today.

Planned for release sometime later this year, Biomass will be getting a free update for existing owners that will remaster the game from top to bottom. I can’t get into all the details here in this post but to give a bit of a tease this is some of what we’ve got planned:

- An art revamp! A large amount of characters and backgrounds are being redrawn from scratch with a higher level of detail, but also maintaining the existing art style (say goodbye to those t-rex arms!)
- Combat changes! Encounters in Biomass will have a bigger focus on melee clashes, toggling weapons mid-combo and deflecting bullets.
- New content! New areas to traverse , new bosses, new quests as well as revamped older ones.
- Some other surprises to talk about at a later date.

To reiterate, this is going to be a free update for all existing owners of Biomass. This effort is going to leave your existing saves incompatible—but the final 1.03 version of Biomass will be made available through a Steam branch if you wanted to continue on with that experience before diving into the remaster.

If you wish to follow along with development and see some updates of things to come I highly encourage you to follow me on Twitter and jump in on the Discord channel for Biomass. Both are going to start getting more frequent updates and teases (perhaps even limited beta tests?) that are going to be right up your alley.

To wet your appetite, here's some WIP sample footage from the remaster.

Thanks again for all your support and I hope to see you soon!

Patch 1.03

A few notable new things in this patch:

1. Hints on workstation spawns - Spawning after death will come accompanied with hints/tips (some specific ones for some areas). These can be disabled in the options menu if you don't want them.
2. Toggle for attack damage info - You can disable the amount of damage you and your enemies receive via the options menu.
3. Rewritten New Game+ Item recovery - While I could not replicate it, I still occasionally got reports about people not recovering their inventories in new game plus. I have rewritten the logic for this in a hopefully much safer way.
4. Modified stamina break behaviour for most enemies - Most basic humanoids whom wield blade weapons will now go into a parried state after breaking their stamina.
5. New enemy type - The Spear Red Trooper. Technically, there might have already been one or two spear red states before, but this one has different logic. Mainly used to teach newbies they can break the stamina of enemies by clashing.
6. Quick Slots can now choose empty items, and alternating between them skips empty ones.

Bug Fixes:
1. Overlapping track between Duke's Manor and West Tower City bug.
2. Empty mod description that was leading people to think there was a menu bug for mods.
3. Gun phase of certain boss less cheesable.
4. Debuffed Rapier.
5. Increased Parry Window.
6. Many other bug fixes that I forgot to note down ><

Patch 1.02c

Turns out that the latest patch inadvertently introduced a way to bypass most of the game and skip to the lighthouse after fighting the red mother >< Just patched this out and hopefully didnt introduce more bugs.

Also, I changed a build setting in Unity to hopefully make the game more compatible overall.
