What is bipolar disorder? Biphasic refers to two distinct states of mind during the disease: The first one is the depressive phase, which is similar to depression and is characterized by persistent and significant depressed mood, interest and pleasure loss, lack of motivation, low self-esteem, pessimism and hopelessness, self-blame and self-condemnation, as well as a series of psychosomatic symptoms such as appetite changes, sleep changes, and difficulty concentrating. The other is the manic phase, characterized by persistent high mood, high energy, excitement and busyness, and inflated self-perception.
How is bipolar disorder treated? Bipolar disorder is mainly treated with mind stabilizers, and medication effectively reduces the risk of relapse. Of course, psychotherapy is also an essential treatment method in addition to medication.
How can I help someone with bipolar disorder? If someone you love has bipolar disorder, it can affect how you get along and cause distress in all aspects of family life. However, your patience, love, and support can also help them improve. You can try to learn about the disorder, encourage and support them, be aware of their symptoms, and always be there for your loved one during the treatment process. Of course, caring for others can become a struggle if you neglect your own needs. Therefore, it is crucial to balance caring for yourself and your loved ones.
1. Learn about bipolar disorder Learn as much as you can about the symptoms and treatment of this disorder. As you learn more about bipolar disorder, you will have a more objective understanding of the changes in their behavior and be better able to help them.
2. Encourage them to seek professional help The sooner people treat bipolar disorder, the better. So, when your loved one shows symptoms, you should urge them to seek professional help right away. Don't think about waiting a little longer to see if someone's condition will get better.
3. Understand them Let them know that you are always there for them if someone needs to talk about their problems, get encouragement or help with therapy. People with bipolar disorder are often reluctant to ask others for help because they feel they will be a burden to others. So, tell the person you love that you care about them and that you will do everything you can to help them overcome the disorder.
4. Stay patient Even if the patient always complies with medical advice, it takes time to get better. Do not expect him to recover quickly and not relapse. Be patient during the treatment process and be prepared for the setbacks and challenges that may come with it. Coping with bipolar disorder is often a lifelong process.
