Birthright Cataclysm: Overture is back

Birthright Cataclysm: Overture was originally released on Steam on November 15th 2020.
After its release, an overwhelming amount of unfortunate circumstances completely impaired its ability to resume development and be updated as it was originally planned.

Our sincerest apologies to everybody involved in no matter which way.

At the time of this post, the game is being completely re-worked from its roots in order to fit the appropriate game-design quality standards and provide a true demonstration of the game's intended player experience.

As of 2024-03-26, the main focus is

- To rid of the game of the immaturity that plagues the delivery of its writing, either it be the poorly executed delivery of some scenes or the lack of quality in its writing. A huge quality overhaul is being worked on.

- Add depths to the game's systems, such as field controls, combat depth, EXP curves, fighting styles and more.

- Improve the atmosphere of the game to something of higher quality

Once that is successfully completed, the development efforts will move towards a new series of goals. Now focusing solely on the presentation and the mechanical aspects of the game.

- The environments will either be fixed or completely redesigned.

- The combat system will take priority and intends to shift from classical turn-based combat to a tentative Card-based gameplay for its fighting scenes. (NOTE: The card based system is tentative and not official as of yet.)

- The Non-RTP audio will be completely replaced with files of proper audio quality and proper volume.

- Unique lighting will be added for every scene / environment of the game.

Once those things are done, the in-game artwork and all RTP assets are going to be completely replaced for unique material. Please note that this particular procedure will take an extremely lengthy amount of time, which is why it is at the bottom of this current list.

This will be it for this announcement. Please note that the new material for the game will show themselves in the forms of small updates that will improve the game with the previously mentioned features.

A world in which I am in control, a game in which the cruelty I know about finally speaks to the player, a game in which I can share the difficulty, the pain and joys with players from around the world. A game in which my precious characters reside and hope to charm the players with their authenticity. That's always been my goal, that's always been my vision.

Quick.Fix.Ver2.0001

A balance patch and a revision is coming soon, refreshing almost the entire game in terms of user-friendliness. The game will absolutely not be any easier, but things will be adjusted to fix flaws that have been reported by players via email.

Please look forward to the strangely codenamed "Example" patch.
Thank you for your support.

Birthright Cataclysm - Overture - A list of 2021 Updates

With Birthright Cataclysm Overture's release now being established, I wanted to give an update to explain what's coming and what to expect.

- The RPG Maker Default assets are being worked on in order to be completely replaced. One by one. This will take time. I am fully aware of how disappointing it is to constantly see these default assets and rather basic graphics being used, while RPGMKER games on Steam are held to a higher standard.

- Secondly, I want to fix the maps, stages and lack of linearity of the game. Stages will not force any decision or path on the player, but will be better structured from now on.

- Thirdly, I want to change the default dialogue style, from rectangles containing text with face expressions to fully rendered portraits of the characters.

- Lastly, I want to improve the combat system, and give more depth to the game in general. The combat is most likely the game's weakest asset, and I want to fix that.
