New features:
* new Russian translation, courtesy of Viperys. THANK YOU!
* the height is now auto-calibrated in the menu. This is great if you start the game with the headset on the floor or if you pass it to someone taller or shorter than you. This is also great for Bitslap's players who are looking for a workout -- squat down before you choose your difficulty and then both your arms and legs will feel like jelly after a couple rounds.
Balance changes:
* the way you are penalized for a miss has been changed, hopefully for the last time. You lose one second on the clock, but play continues as soon as you punch the correct cube (you won't be double penalized if you punch multiple wrong cubes), and all incorrectly punched cubes stay red until you punch the right cube. This should help you stay in the flow!
* you don't lose your entire combo when you make a mistake. This shifts the balance a bit -- in previous versions, maintaining 100% accuracy as long as possible was the only way to get a great score. Now you can still get a great score by being fast and very accurate (but not necessarily perfect).
Big thanks to Taoh Rihze for your help on these changes!
Enjoy! If you have any feedback, leave a message in the steam forums.
1.2.1 is Live
Good news: 1.2.1 is live.
This patch includes small improvements to make the game more usable and fun.
* press trigger to skip waves. the last patch increased the time between waves to 8 seconds. Now you can skip that by pressing the trigger.
* spawn distance slider is slightly more effective. This has no changes for most users, but users who have their FOV cranked all the way down will have all cubes a bit more comfortably in view.
* cube miss penalty has changed. Now it subtracts time from the clock instead of locking up gameplay. But the more misses you make, the more it locks up gameplay instead of taking time off the clock. That means that if you're in the flow, you can immediately keep going after a miss, but if you flail your arms about randomly, you're going to have a bad time. You'll know that gameplay is locked because the cube you punched is still red. And the lock timer doesn't start until you take your hand out, so stay on your toes and get your hand out of the cube where it shouldn't be!
Thanks to Taoh Rihze for your suggestions and for your help testing this release! If you want to play tomorrow's Bitslap today, then PM /u/Mark_bitslap on reddit or send an email to mark.tucker@comrex.ch.
1.2.0 is Live
Good news: 1.2.0 is live.
* now available in German and ready to be translated into other languages. Check out Bitslap's Steam Community forum if you want to help translate into your native tongue!
* cubes now wrap around you vertically as well as horizontally. This makes it a bit harder to unintentionally hit one cube while trying to punch another. Thanks to current world champ slapper, Shadaez, for the great idea!
* UI position and orientation now only change when you recenter by pressing the trackpad (while in the menu). Thanks to leppermessiah for first bringing this up! Many found the old behavior annoying.
* minor text changes
1.1.0 is Live
Good news: patch 1.1.0 is live.
New features:
* volume sliders
* brightness slider (NOTE: lowering this makes the game less difficult than intended -- normally, as your combo increases, the explosion particles become blindingly bright)
* cube size/spawn distance slider (NOTE: lowering this makes the game less difficult than intended unless you have decreased the FOV using the knobs on the side of the Vive)
Balance changes:
* the max particle brightness for very long combos has been slightly decreased
* the penalty time for punching the wrong cube has been slightly decreased
* the time between waves has been increased by a few seconds
Bugs/misc:
* the "stoplight" shown at the start of each wave is less confusing now
* fixed a bug in "YOUR GLOBAL RANK" -- previously it showed the 9 players below you; now it correctly shows the 4 players above and below you
* minor text changes
1.0.1 is Live
Good news: patch 1.0.1 is live.
* custom music is fixed (thank you Viperys for your help debugging this!)
* it's now harder to inadvertently reset the game... now you have to press both app buttons at once to reset (app button is above trackpad)
* other small improvements
I will still be adding volume sliders in an update soon so that it's easy to use a standalone player, but for now, your music as ogg files should work!
Launch Successful
Bitslap has landed. Thanks for playing and for all the helpful feedback! And wow, the positive messages are much appreciated :).
You can expect some updates in the near future to address comfort and quality-of-life issues that have been reported, as well as some secret content for adept slappers.
But first priority is fixing the broken custom music. Sorry this got past testing! The current workaround is to put an empty text file in GAMEDIR\Music, and rename it to have a .ogg extension. Then Bitslap's music won't play, and you can use Spotify or any standalone music player for your custom music.
So go punch stuff and be merry! The first time you get "in the flow" in each progressive difficulty will blow your mind!
