Hello! To celebrate the first two weeks of the release of Blades of the Righteous and to thank you for all the support so far - I am rolling out the patch with a large content update.
The new stuff:
Addition of heroes - the hero is a special unit that gets stat points after successful battles. Those stat points can be spent to upgrade base stats of the hero (hp / energy / damage / defence). If hero gets killed - you can revive him by paying gold.
Heroes are permanently unlocked on player's profile by completing map events. Choosing a hero gives special benefits - grim reaper gets 2hp/energy from every death on battlefield, as well as revives one fallen unit as a skeleton. Merchant allows special 'cart' event that gives you resources, his attacks on battlefield grant you gold. The hero, like the normal unit, persist through one map walkthrough. Heroes are accessible on the map screen - 'heroes' icon (or by simply pressing 'H' key).
New resource: Food. Food is required in order for the troops to restore when skipping turn. If you do not have enough food - no units are restored. Food can be gained through new technology (farming), from events or purchased at the market.
Ghost trader event added (unlocked for profile after successful necromancer's offer)
Necromancer's offer #2 event added (sacrifice archer or orc archer for skeleton archer)
Sacrifice archer event added (unlocks on successful ghost trader event)
Merchant's cart event added (when you unlock the merchant and choose him as a hero)
satyr's struggle (when you unlock the merchant) - trade 5 food for random prizes
feed the poor map event added (requires player to give 10 food) - necessary for unlocking Merchant hero
'kill your own' map event added (player needs to kill 2 swordsmen/rogues/mages in any combo) - needed for unlocking Grim Reaper's ressurection power
The fixes and balance changes:
- Gameplay: max simultaneous adventures on map increased to 4
- Gameplay: skeleton archer removed from necromancer's offer quest
- Gameplay: 'help the village' event can now reward food
- Gameplay: increased reward from 'help the village' event on higher difficulties
- BUG: fixed the bug when block was not working
- GUI: icon size on map changed to 70x70 from 64x64
- GUI: max 7 icons on map event list instead of 8
- GUI: removed ugly red borders as map event selection
- GUI: unit name is now written in stats window
- BUG: fixed the bug when boss spawned even if no portals have been killed
- BUG: fixed bug when portal battle could end with enemy units alive on the field after portal was killed
IMPORTANT:
I am very sorry, but the old save files for map progress won't be compatible and need to be replaced by new ones. THE LONG-TERM PLAYER PROGRESS STAYS. This step is necessary for the game to evolve and get better. More below:
Save system revamp: in some cases the save files could become corrupt. I have reworked the save file algorithm. Unfortunately, with all new additions it means that old MAP save files won't be compatible with the new version. However, all player progress is still going to be loading/saving properly so your major achievements will be kept.
If you encounter any errors - please report them in the game forums.
Thank you! If you would like something changed or some cool feature added - just write on the forums and we can discuss it.
Anouncing update 1.1 to Blades of the Righteous
Hello,
Thanks for your support so far!
I'm planning to do a major update to the game, so here's a brief overview what to expect:
Hero Units: 2 of the initial heroes, unlocked through completing various events and battles. The hero can be chosen and summoned for a map. If the hero unit gets killed - it can be ressurected for money (with all the previous stats and skills but no items). After every battle - the hero unit levels a little and you can increase what stats you want to improve (health/energy/damage/defence)!
New resource: food. The food is needed when forces are resting. If player does not have enough food - no health/energy is restored to the troops, even though the turn skips.
At least 7 new map events, some of which are unlocked by completing previous events
Save system revamp: in some cases the save files could become corrupt. I have reworked the save file algorithm. Unfortunately, with all new additions it means that old MAP save files won't be compatible with the new version. However, all player progress is still going to be loading/saving properly so your major achievements will be kept.
Expect it next week, I am planning to release it until 25th of March.
Cheers!

'Surrender' battle function added
Losing games is more fun now!
If you see that your forces are getting overwhelmed - pay your way out.
This is done according to user feedback - up till now it has been very hard to recover from losing all your forces.
The total fix list for this patch is following:
- surrender battle function added: it is possible to pay money (depending on difficulty) to abandon battle and keep the current units
- small fix in battle ui: tooltips are now properly shown above buttons (not below them)
- fixed a small glitch that caused the game crash when window 'close' button is pressed and confirmation dialog is open
Cheers,
Vladimir
Autosave after every turn feature added
Hi Everyone!
- Autosave feature enabled. The game is saved on every new turn.
- Forfeit button added in options screen in map. Deletes current map (but not game) progress, allowing you to start the map anew if you don't like where the game is going.
This autosave feature, although seems small, required to rewrite a considerable portion of the game. I'm going to be monitoring closely if it breaks something for about an hour. If there are issues - I will rollback. Otherwise I'll go and grab some sleep be back in about 8 hours to double-check if everything is fine.
Cheers,
Vladimir
Patch 1.0.1: save game hotfix, balancing change and some glitch fixes
- introduced critical fix when broken save file would shut the game down
- fixed intimidating shout tooltip (it lasts 3 turns when above level 2, and not above level 3);
- fixed healing spell (now properly restores 5 energy on level 3+, and 10 energy on level 5)
- fixed healing spell tooltip
- fixed tutorial tooltip
- increased base enemy amount increase frequency by 33%: will now be 16 for easy, 13 for medium, 10 for hard (used to be 12 for easy, 10 for medium, 8 for hard)
- orc boss will no longer try to throw axes at the dead enemies
Blades of the Righteous is published!
From now on, you are able to purchase Blades of the Righteous in Steam store.
While I consider the game complete, I do feel like it is only a beginning of the path, as I am willing to hear your feedback and suggestions.
I've tested it thoroughly, but in case you still find a bug - drop me a note or leave a message in discussions forum.
If you see a place for improvement - I am open to new ideas and will try to implement what playerbase wants. The new features can be added in the upcoming patches.
Cheers,
Vladimir
Regarding Release Time & Date
Hi everyone,
Steam store shows the release date as 6th of March for some reason. Just wanted to clarify: the game comes out on march 7th, Monday, 15:00 GMT (9:00 AM PST) - this is the earliest time when Steam allows publishing on weekdays.
I'd love to publish it a bit sooner but I can't - I'll try to do some more tweaking and polishing tomorrow so that the time would be spent well and you'll get an even better game.
Cheers,
Vladimir
Blades of the Righteous - pre-release gameplay vid available!
As the game is getting closer to release, here's the lates vid of me playing and explaining what's going on.
The battle got tough when I've attacked the portal and even though I lost the portal battle (you can normally continue after the loss of battle and recruit a new army), I did not think that it's necessary to remake the video - this is the real part of the game. This is how the game is going to look like right after the release:

Feel free to comment and leave your feedback! Get the game on March 7th in Steam Store.
Basic gameplay vid
Hi everyone!
Making a quick gameplay vid just to show how the game is going to be played: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhP-BoqbFJA&feature=youtu.be - I've disabled the sound to record my comment over what is going on to give a brief impression on the gameplay.
Let me know if you have any questions!
