BLASTRONAUT Darkness Update

The first major update for BLASTRONAUT has landed. The Darkness adds a fog of war, a map, and new worm aliens to the game. As well as many smaller improvements.

The darkness will limit the player's view and hide the treasures and aliens underground. It also works well in co-op allowing friends to clear the map for each other.


The minimap helps to find the way back home but only shows the cleared areas.


Worms are new enemies lurking in the dark but can be detected from afar by the sound they are making when munching on blocks.


These new features are made to complement each other and will make the exploration more interesting and rewarding. To allow these new features, the underlying systems for storing blocks have also changed. The new system is much faster and will not slow down even when traveling very long distances. However, it also required the save system redesign and therefore the old save games will not work after this update. This will happen less often in the future.

List of new features:

3. Worm enemies - small and large variants
4. Attack sounds for worms and flyers
5. Support for multiple enemies per biome
6. Save games optimized (about 1/2 the size)
7. World chunking optimized to allow infinite travel

List of changes:
1. Critters give more fuel (2.5x)
2. Fuel containers give more fuel (10x)
3. Multiple bag directions are shown
4. Subtask complete sound changed

Fixed bugs:
1. Upgrade cost wrongly increased for all players after purchase by one.
2. Entities were sometimes mapped to the wrong chunks.

Known bugs:
1. Editor tile placement not working correctly.
2. Editor also displays darkness.
3. Player beam weapon sometimes not shooting.

We are hoping to fix these and all the other new bugs in the upcoming patches. The next big update will be scheduled in about 3 months and its main objective is to tackle the equipment system. Add more upgrades and improve the controls of the player. Take a look at our roadmap to see what is coming up.

EA Roadmap & Darkness update

Almost 3 months have passed since BLASTRONAUT launched Early Access. We would like to thank everyone who has supported the game and left feedback.

Finally, we have finished the Early Access roadmap, which includes both much-requested quality-of-life improvements as well as new and exciting gameplay features. Here it is:


Update 1 - Darkness



The first major update is about to launch on the 27th of October (less than a week left). And it will change the feel of the game considerably.

First, it will introduce the Darkness or Fog of War that will make the exploration more exciting.


Secondly, it will add the most requested feature - a map. It only displays the explored area and shows buildings, aliens and other players in the world.


Finally, the underlying systems for storing and chunking the game world have been completely reworked. This will improve the performance of the game and the game should not start lagging after long play sessions anymore. However, the save system was also completely reworked which means that old save files will not work after the update. We hope that this is less likely to happen again with future updates.

Steam Workshop - 0.1.8 modding support

Steam Workshop and player-made mods are now officially available with this patch. Although the menu has already been accessible for a few days, it was mostly intended for testing.

With the release of this patch, there are also two new example mods from Permuvich:
1. PCORP Prototype Minigun - adds a new type of weapon to the game.
2. PCORP Prototype Beam Drone - adds a custom drone hunt scenario with some beam drones.

Patch notes
Editor improvements:
1. Color picker field added.
2. Sound file preview added when selecting sounds from the file panel.
3. Explosion and machine animations support custom packages.
4. Editor UI theme updated to show correct button images.
5. Option to add multiple enemies per biome.
6. Option to decrease the projectile bounce velocity through bounce coefficient.

Gameplay changes:
7. Gel projectiles are now damaging enemies.
8. Gel projectiles are now damaging other players.
9. Tier 3 and 4 gel weapons buffed and projectile colours changed.
10. Default autosave time increased from 1 to 3 minutes to decrease save-related lag.

After this patch, we will start directing our focus toward the next big update, and the frequency of smaller patches will decrease. The development of the next update will take around 3 months, and it will bring some new exciting content as well as some most requested features (to be announced soon).

1. Multiplayer fix: joined players got server prices after rejoining.
2. Multiplayer fix: research was not replicated between players.
3. Bugfix: feedback form description box was not wrapping text.
4. Balance change: second gel weapon buffed.

5. Balance change: Spoerl fuel recipe yield increased 3x.

DEMO update v3.3

Blastronaut demo is now also updated to match the improvements made for the Early Access version.

This should also fix the issue where demo players want to continue playing the same save in the EA version. However, it means that saves between demo versions will get broken. Also, the signal needs to be purchased again.

1. Added custom fuel machine sound loop.

Balance changes
1. Increased fuel machine recipe yields correspond to input resource rarities.
2. Removed early game bases from the Crimson biome.

Bugfixes:
1. Fixed a bug that didn't allow players to connect when the save file was too large (more than 1MB).
2. Fixed the space station resetting before the timer runs out.
